How do you know she got all she could out of the girls, from what I am hearing the practices were real bad along with some other things. My guess is they won the all "A" and their district bc they had better players. They have at least 4 girls that are real good.

 

That being said I don't know her and I haven't seen her coach so as far as deserving to stay or needing to go I have no clue.

I believe I said that it was only my opinion. Could you show me some examples where you think they underachieved this year and how you feel it was the coaches fault? I just don't see a lot of games they lost that were big surprises.

Allsport, what is it that you feel the coach is not doing that someone else would be able to? IMO, she got about all she could out of the group of girls she had. 2nd straight district title, deep run in the "A" state and basically a very competitive team. I am not sure why anyone would want to take that job, the pitcher/catcher combo will graduate this year and the following year will probably be a rebuilding year. I don't really know the Gallatin history, but my guess is the previous years did not have either the quality or quantity of players to play a 30+ game season. Scheduling a demanding schedule without the athletes (and resources) is a recipe for disaster. Coach Edmondson stuck with the team through the lean years I think she deserves the opportunity to enjoy the good times as well.

IMost of their success rides on their pitcher's arm. She misses one game and they almost get run ruled by Eminence. Without her they wouldn't win very many games. IMO

Although we all know that in this sport, most of a teams success hinges on pitching, your logic would suggest that all 15 all region members should be pitchers. Not sure I would agree with that. GC would have have trouble recording any putouts without positions 2, 5, and 6 on the field. GC's top 4 match up well with anyone in the 8th Region and achieved a lot of success this season. Again, when several folks thought a new 31st District champion might be crowned, it did not happen. Which speaks volumes for a team that had nobody worthy of all region consideration in the eyes of the not only the rest of the 8th Region coaches, but specifically the 31st District coaches.

The Eminence game you refer to had many dynamic factors involved. One of which was the fact that GC's #2 pitcher's arm was in a cast at that time. Two 8th grade pitchers with plenty of freshman/JV experience did not start that 1st game of the Eminence DH due to being on 8th grade field trip the previous 3 days, missing practice in the process. GC started a pitcher with no pitching experience to speak of, literally walking in about 8 runs in the process, until she was replaced in the 2nd inning by one of the 8th graders. Very dificult to field the ball when it is not put in play. To the Warriors credit, they caught a few very hard hit balls while on defense. In the nightcap, GC defeated them in 3 innings with another 8th grade pitcher. No excuses, just stating what and why.

I would argue that all of his players are developed by someone else. He loses a lot of players over his coaching methods. I'm not sure all players want to be as committed as the core four girls we are discussing. If coach Edmondson's turns up the commitment, she may lose some good players that don't want to committ that much time.

I don't think Gallatin underacheived at all. The have had a good season. I think you misunderstand my previous complaints. Nobody has mentioned that they think Gallatin should have won more games, but I have spoken to a bunch of the parents and have actually witnessed with my own eyes the absolute joke of what is called practice. More than one player has told me that they took defense and infield and outfield practice a total of three or four times ALL SEASON, and never, ever went over bunt defense. Practice either amounted to standing around twiddling thumbs while waiting for the "practice pitcher" to get the ball near the plate so it could be hit, or they would divide up into two teams and scrimmage the whole practice. I have a feeling that you might be a coach, and I bet if you watched them practice, you would be scratching your head in amazement wondering how they won any games. There is a reason why Gallatin won 2 or 3 games a year for many years. The good players would quit because they did not want to be part of the circus.

It is the committment of the coach that the players and parents seem to question. They seem to feel as if she does the bare minimum to recieve that paycheck. The players want at least a little bit of effort on her part. It is all of the players who feel this way, not just a few. As stated before, they want to be coached. I have gotten to see this coaching firsthand on a close up basis for many years and know firsthand that she has been offered help on teaching her kids to pitch, hitting instruction, and base running from qualified people who know how to play the game and have told them all that she basically didnt need the help.This coming when she couldn't win a game. I do understand that maybe other coaches who don't play Gallatin may question this forum. As I stated before though, you would have to see it to believe it. If she wants to continue to coach this team, she needs to get some coaching instruction or if it is a money matter, just go scout other teams and coaches. To remain there as a coach, she should have to up her game. As you have seen,there haven't been many of the 'ole GC faithful defending her have they?
