An attempt to evaluate the possible trade market for the Reds...

Recommended Posts

Lets pick up Jamie Moyer Dusty likes vets or Juan Pierre in left and leadoff :ylsuper: Ryan Dumpster might be a good 5th starter if they arent going to use Chapman.

Juan Pierre would actually be a great pickup, he has played well this year and they should have signed him during the offseason...The Reds paid as much for Harris as the Phills did for Pierre...

Carlos Quentin is going to be great trade bait | HardballTalk

Quentin has been on fire since coming off the DL...He is also playing in SD which I guess doesn't matter because he hasn't played there enough yet, but it would be nice to get him before he falls into a SD funk...Quentin in Cincy in LF batting Cleanup would be a huge upgrade...He has been in the news since coming off the DL as being available...I think I read the Padres would love to ship him soon since he has come off the DL with a bang and is value is probably higher than it will be all summer, especially once he starts hitting at Petco...I believe the Padres get nothing for him if he walks after the year and they got him from the Sox for 2 low to mid level prospects, if they can ship him off now for a few prospects with value they may be able to get a good return on their investment in him...

I would be willing to give them either Stubbs and or Leake from the ML Roster and anyone not named Hamilton, Corcino, Lutz or Cingrani from the farm...The Reds could surely come up with an appealing package between Stubbs/Leake and one or two of Soto, Joseph, Rodriguez, Bowe, Vidal and Gregorius...

So you're suggesting a 3 for 1 for a guy who since his breakout year of 2008 has hit .236, .242 and .254. Keep trading the Padres all your good prospects and your farm system will look like it did when Marge was in charge.

Cubs Will Consider Offers For Castro, Others: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

If the Cubs paid alot of Soriano's salary would anybody want him in LF? Also it says the Cubs would listen to offers for Castro for 2 big time prospects, would Hamilton and Corcino get it done and if so would you guys do it?...Bryan Lahair seems like a cheap possibility as long as he could be decent in Left...

Castro has a big bat and if he ever learns how to play without making 30 errors a year he could be a perennial All-star but the Cubs aren't going to give him away. Barry Larkin had a ton of errors early in his career and we see the results of time with him. You can however forget about the Reds trading Hamilton as Jocketty said he is pretty much untouchable. As for Corcino there are those in the organization that say Corcino reminds them of a younger Johnny Cueto and we all know he is our #1. I don't see either of those guys going anywhere.

None of the prospects I mentioned are big time prospects throughout all of baseball...I listed the guys that would be untouchable in a trade for me, I would trade Stubbs or Leake and a prospect from the players I listed for Qeuntin...

I would rather have Heisey in CF and Quentin in LF everyday than Stubbs everyday in CF with Heisey and Ludwick flip flopping all the time in LF...Heisey might be a step slower but he plays with heart and goes all out, he gets good jumps and isnt afraid to lay out and he can also bunt for a hit which the faster Stubbs struggles to do...

The farm is bare as it is already, there are guys with potential but no top 100 guys except Hamilton and possibly Corcino who I already said I wouldnt trade for anyone....I only mentioned them in a hypothetical trade for Castro because they are the Reds top prospects and thats what the Cubs said that deal would take...It would also be tough to give up Gregorius and Cingrani but I would be willing to part with Cingrani if it came down too it...He wasnt a highly regarded guy before blowing up this year...

I could see the Pads being interested in Stubbs as he and Maybin would cover alot of ground in Petco...

It may be just me but this is way better than anything the Reds can run out there right now...

Anyone is crazy if they wouldn't have rather Signed Pierre over Harris in the off-season to perform the same role on this Reds team...Both players were signed to identical contracts, $800,000...The difference is Pierre has a track record of success...

Anyone that thinks Pierre wouldn't have been a better option for this team at the same price or even maybe even for a little extra cash is crazy...Shouldn't be to hard to figure out which player is A and which is B, A is Pierre and B is Harris, Pierre>Harris...It's not even close...Everyone wants to knock Pierre's glove however he isn't nearly as bad in LF as people make him out to be, other than having a noodle for an arm

I don't think you understand that even during those down years he still maintained a very good OBP and would look really good behind Votto...He has pretty good plate discipline especially out of everyone the Reds throw out there...

I would gladly take the .254 AVG with the 33 2B, 32 HR, 102 RBI and .347 OBP that he has averaged in his career...And too think that GABP should only help increase those numbers...Stubbs and Heisey are a wash with the only difference being Stubbs has more speed and was a top draft pick that is still young and someone the Padres may be interested in...I would gladly trade Stubbs and one of the Reds many Mid-Level Prospects for Quentin...

Quentin would have the best OBP on the Reds team other than Votto, Rolen and Hanigan...However we know Rolen is done and Hanigan hasn't had near the plate appearances of Quentin in his career...It's also interesting that Votto and Quentin average identical HR and RBI numbers in there careers...

One last post...Based on 162 GM averages...You lose nothing getting rid of Stubbs except his SB's and a whole lot of griping about him by Reds fans...At the same time the top of the Order improves as does the Middle of the Order, it could be one of the best in baseball...I would even do it if it mean keeping Stubbs and trading away just a couple prospects  as much as I hate Stubbs...

Phillips

Heisey

Votto

Quentin

Bruce

Frazier

Cozart

Hanigan/Mes

I guess I misread your post then, I thought you would include them in the trade talks. Imo those 2 are a big part of the future. I'm also not real sur ethat the Reds are ready to give up on Cozart although he could be moved to 3rd to accommodate a new ss.

That's what I was thinking...I'm a huge Cozart fan I love his defense and his bat has lots of potential...However If that trade would ever go down Cozart would shift to 3rd...Epstein is now saying that Castro is unavailable though, he is the future of their team...I was wondering how long it would be before Theo would shoot down the Castro talk...For what it's worth I don't think Hamilton and Corcino would be enough to snag him anyways and like I said I definitely wouldn't be willing to part with them...The Reds system is pretty bare with Star caliber prospects and I would trade almost anyone but those two...

You need to know a lot more :thumb:

Anyone is crazy if they wouldn't have rather Signed Pierre over Harris in the off-season to perform the same role on this Reds team...Both players were signed to identical contracts, $800,000...

I know that Harris and Pierre aren't the same player with the same role. Harris was signed as a utility infielder and played 2B and 3B with the Reds ... he never saw time in the outfield, even though he has some experience there.

Unless Pierre was suddenly converting to the infield, a little dicey given that he's left-handed, the comparison is invalid.

If you're going to compare Pierre to one of the current Reds, compare him to Ludwick and Heisey, the guys that play the same position.

And Pierre wouldn't have been a wise signing, at least for use as an everyday player. In the last seven years, he has put up a .334 OBP and .685 OPS ... that isn't productive.

Once again, Cozart won't hit enough to man 3B ... his recent struggles enforce that view. Cozart is a fine shortstop, and doesn't have very much value in the major leagues aside from that.

^^ .361 OBP this year. I'm embarrassed to even post the OBP for the Reds out of the lead off spot. That .361 would sure look nice.
We're two months into the season ... we'll see if it holds up. Considering that most of that OBP is in his .324 BA, I doubt that it will.

I don't see the Reds OBP getting a ton better though. .300 would be a huge upgrade at this point. The Reds are last in the league by nearly 60 points at .197. Good Lord. Pierre would be a huge upgrade at this point. Votto would probably have 8-10 more RBI right now.
