Alum donors are the way to go, but I have major problems when Archbishop Kelly writes out a check for 6.4 million to one school while offering nothing to another and causing it to close. I'm now reconsidering my donations to the Archdiocisean Fund. :irked:

Trust me there was nothing said about Desales Holy Cross or the girls schools, not one word. My Cousin just lost the fight to save Holy Rosary and look at what money Trinity has for new weights. Anyway I didn't say it was illegal or even wrong I am just responding to a thread saying that catholic school don't send people to Meyzeek or Barret, just because they don't come in wearing a Trinity football uniform handing out money, it doesn't mean those schools don't go into JCPS schools looking for students. Watch insight channel 8 for that Reaching higher St.X hour long advertisement that comes on and you will see them showing kids from Meyzeek and Barret talking about how great it is to leave public schools and go to Catholic Schools. Once again I have no problem with a paid advertisement showcasing St.X or even appealing to JCPS students. I am not whining about it, I would just prefer Catholic School and private school guys to speak open and honestly rather than hide behind technicalities. Remember I am one of the few JCPS guys thats on your side about this stuff. You are doing things legal, but you are a private school and you do have to advertise and attract people by convincing them there is a reason to pay money to go to your school rather than go to a free public school. Private schools have to have a way reach the potential customer, public schools don't have to aren't allowed the means to. These schools are proud of their abilty to reach out to JCPS other schools, but when we get on here and try to have honest dialog suddenly it has the outward appearence of be improper, which it is not, and evey one trys to hide it.

 

Defend your schools, but do it with the plain honest truth, and people will respect it more. Thats all I am saying!

 

But to get back to threads subject the boycott is there anyone else that has any proof that this is more than a rumor?!?

Sorry to say its not a rumor. We will see if it takes off but i already know of schools making the transition to scheduling public schools first .District games have to be played but that is the exception. Im sure it will take a couple of years ,but thats the direction we're going as of right now.

Sorry about that earlier Ram95, I was under the impression that we did NOT send people from Trinity in there. Also it's good to see public school people supporting us. :thumb:

It really is sad ( and a little amusing) that the Jefferson County public school administration can be so childish.

Oh well, if they do not want to play us, that is fine with me. They will suffer the consequences. I believe Trinity could benefit more from a boycott than the way it is today.

Better competition, more press outside of the city, more money!!!

Before anyone goes WAY OFF about the evil Catholic schools invading the public middle schools (I know you didn't Ram95 but trust me someone will soon) I want to relate the fact that I distinctly remember the guidence counselors from Southern High School visiting my very Catholic elementary school extolling the virtues of their school. This was not recently either it was about 30 years ago, well before the days of open enrollment.

I agree with Rock85. The boycott would really be more of an advantage to X and Trinity than it would be to the public schools. With a boycott, the two could get out of having to play some of the cruddier public school teams, and beef up their schedules with top notch opponents from around the region. In addition to that, I honestly believe, that if a boycott really happens, you will see even more top quality athletes go to Trinity and X. The best want to play the best and play against the best. They don't want to hide their heads in the sand with some whiney public school athletic directors.

 

However, I still don't feel this is going to happen. The difference between Trinity and X vs LexCath is the fan base. Schools can afford to boycott LexCath because they don't bring 5000 fans to every game. Playing Trinity and X is a cash cow for too many Jefferson Co. public school athletic programs for them to boycott. It's their biggest money maker of the year hands down. It's all about money, and money says it won't happen. Never, ever, ever. Hey, someone's gotta make the sacrifice so the field hockey team can make that trip to Georgia, right?

I guess im just beating my head against the wall telling you that its happening now. If you need more proof maybe some of the Trinity players can tell you who is and who is not on their schedule for next year. This means at all levels Frosh , JV and Varsity. I dont think its going to matter to the larger schools public and private. To be honest id like to know what the big deal is. They will have to meet in playoffs, and this is what really counts.

You are correct. It is already happening. I just think the powers that be in Jefferson County are trying to keep this quieter then their Fayette County counterparts.

I heard this to be on the freshman and JV levels as well. I wonder whats going on over at X, if schools are boycotting them?

 

No more Male vs X game would be bad on all levels, not to mention other great games.

 

And why is it Manual has agreed to play Trinity and none of the other schools will? Is it perhaps because they have the backbone to play Trinity, despite the fact they may loose? Or is it, most public schools dont like Manual almost as much as they dont like Trinity, for the same reasons (the ypass, acceptance policy things like that)

 

What about Male, what will they do, the Male X and Male Trinity games have been huge, no more of this?

 

Its too bad, Ballard won on the freshman level two years ago, guess they wont have that chance anymore. Im also interested if this is just in football. Trinity (it being all thats wrong with high school sports) couldnt beat Eastern last night in Basketball. I bet they continue to play basketball, you know why, cause the public schools have a good chance at getting that game. THey wont take there ball and go home with basketball.

 

But if they do, I will be the first to say I was wrong. This action by the JCPS is further proof of....well I just keep my mouth shut on that one.:fight:

I agree that this "boycott" began before we heard about it. 2 Frosh games were cancelled in the 2002 season. Manual, though, asked to have a game added. I know that it was probably the toughest game our Freshmen played. Speaking for my son, he was more pumped up about that game than any other! I think a boycott would definitely hurt the JCPS programs worse than the Private school programs in a lot of ways, as mentioned above. It would do nothing to even out the disparity between athletic programs at different schools. So you throw out private schools. You're still left with several dominant Public schools. Then what happens, you throw out Traditional Public school programs. Will they join the "Private League"? I think this rumor, if it proves to be true, more clearly exemplifies the disparity in philosophies between most Public and Private schools. It's not about changing the rules to make it easier on yourself, it's about facing adversity and finding a way to succeed despite your obstacles. And I apply that statement not only to athletics, but in teaching their students to become responsible adults capable of succeeding despite obstacles. I applaud the Traditional Public School programs, they are the envy, academically, of all of the schools in the state. They set the standard. To Manual, thank you for your integrity to stand alone, but maintain the quality of your program.

I would agree with every thing the above poster had to say except one thing, Traditional programs are great but Magnet Programs and Dupont Manual set the standard for the state academically.

Has the Jefferson County school board made any announcements about this policy? From what I am being told it is the unofficial official policy of the Jefferson County school board to do this.

I have no idea, but I can tell you that it's all over the school @ Trinity. My son came home yesterday talking about it. So, someone other than just the BGP posters are talking about it.
