Dixie @5 @Dixie

Lloyd/St Henry will follow at roughly 730

Despite the controversary I am please to see that the Ludlow Panthers won this game. Good luck against Dixie.

KHSAA bylaw 30:

BYLAW 30. COACHES NOT TO OFFICIATE

Coaches or persons connected with the competing schools shall

not officiate at contests, unless the written consent of all competing schools is given.

Looks as if the umpire is required by the state to not accept an assignment that would require him to officiate a game in which his nephew was playing.

Just in case you feel I made up this bylaw, here's the link:

Thanks Miller for posting this. As I said before this umpire should be banned from post season events for this year and next year at minimum. There is no way he can justify any reason why it was acceptable. Specifically a District Tournament game.

Thanks for sharing the rule. Bottom line is the ump should have excused himself from the game knowing there was a potential conflict with his nephew playing for Ludlow. If he has done other games this year with Ludlow then shame on him for doing those also. It doesn't matter who compalined about what call, it's just bad judgement on his part for taking the assignments knowing there's a potential conflict of interest.

Agreed Lauch, if this were just a regular season game, and there were alot of games that day then maybe, maybe, if both coaches were ok with it in advance, I can see it ok for him to umpire, but not a post season game, no way.

i personally know both the ump and his nephew.ive known the ump since we were kids playing knothole together and facing each other in high school.ive always have known him to be fair. And its not the first time he has ump one of his games this year. Just because his nephew was on one of the teams playing dosent mean he favored that team if anything he was probably harder on that team. yes he probably should have excused himself but he didnt and because one team didnt like his calls its a big controversey now. where was all this talk when he ump his games earlier in the year.

Never said anything about the Ump's personality or if he was a bad or good guy. I usually find all UMPS to be good guys that do what they do more for the love of the game and being around the game than the $ (small as it is) that they make.

The difference is that this was Districts....one and out. Lose and your Seniors have ended their HS Baseball career. These games are different and the Umps consider them to be...You can tell because they send 3 instead of 2.

Nephew is a good player and looks to have a good career ahead of him. I'm sure the situation put him in an uncomfortable position as well. Wishing him "3 for 4 days" (except when they play us)

Sounds like a bad situation but I know for a fact that this happens more than you think and the same last name is the only reason to believe they are related if they don't have the same name its not a factor and this thread doesn't come up or if villa win its no issue IMO play smart baseball, hit, score runs and you never even know the umps are out there. By the way if a teenage kid questions the ump or makes smart a$$ remarks they need to be tossed.

I disagree. Villa didn't lose by 1. Villa didn't lose because of this one strike out or one call at the plate. Ludlow "won" this game because they played better.

I was bringing this up, win or lose, because it is wrong and never needs to happen again.

For the record, I had zero intentions of detracting any attention from Coach Highfield and his team on a fantastic district win. Congrats to the Panthers! It truly seemed like a great game and a well deserved win.

I do have mixed feelings in regards of the umpire. I know this man on a personal level and would never expect him to have bias toward any team while calling the game. That being said, he was in a situation he couldn't win and put his crew in a bad spot as well. Calls get missed, that's the human element of officiating. I don't know the circumstance surrounding the young man getting run, but if he argued balls and strikes, then he probably deserved it. Players have to play and let their coaches fight their battles. I'm not going to speculate on the coach being restricted because I don't know what was said between he and the umpire. Having not been there and what has been posted in this thread, it sounds like being restricted was a good call.

launch8 has a valid point. What becomes of this now that it's over? You can't protest the game, nor start over at the point of interruption. I would think any punishment will have to come from the KHSAA office and not from the 9th Region Assignor. Should be interesting, to say the least.

Must be villa fans keeping this going the guy was wrong let it be handle by the right people im sure he will take his suspension and move on so if they can't handle there season being over don't worry knothole baseball starts soon then you will have teenager umps then what will you complain about.

FYI......"being handled by the right people" in this case means that he is being "punished" by being pulled off the 34th district post season games ..........BUT he was moved to the HC/Beechwood game and I believe he will be doing the CCH/HC district finals tomorrow.

Some "suspension"

Wow are you the ump stalker im sure this will take time to sort out same name doesn't always mean they are related this has to come from khsaa and they will not just go on the angrey fans word. I would ask for dna samples if I was the ump and this was that big of a deal give you a little bit longer to follow him around. Oh I just heard he will be doing the 9th region tournament maybe they will get it straight before next year.

Coud this be the beginning of the excuses if by some strange chance HC upsets CCH?

K man you better hope they don't have the same name or the oldtimer is not at the game or it might be
