Franklin County Coaching Position

Featured Replies

Word is that Scott Chalk has applied for other coaching positions. I think he has done this in past years. Will the Flyers have a new head coach next season?

Seems like this all depends on Lexington Dunbar. If they make him an offer, than Franklin County will probably be looking for a new coach.

Franklin County has a new principal and superintendent coming on board next year......would be a great opportunity for someone if the job does become available.

Sounds like it is a done deal....Scott Chalk will be the new head coach at Dunbar. He will do a fantastic job.

Now....who are the possibilities for the Franklin County job???????

Look for the current Franklin County girls coach to be the front runner if he is interested.

They should hire Joey Thacker. If Franklin County doesnt hire Thacker it will be their loss. Look at what he has done at with the womens team. Before he took the Franklin County job he turn the Frankfort High girls team around.

Just hope it's the right person. Someone who will be invested in the community and the program not someone just looking for a stepping stone towards another job.

You think Thacker wants the job?

I am not sure. I know one day he wants to coach men team. But he has to find the right job. He isnt just going to take any boys job just because it is a boys job. But they should take a minute and ask him.

Next person would be Nick Barton who is a current assistant. Either of those guys would do a good job.

Good luck to Coach Chalk. Of course girls and boys coaching is different, but I always like the way that Thacker's Franklin County girls played.

I think a top 3 would be:

1. Joey Thacker - Current Girl's Coach

2. Tommy Johnson - Former Asst. & Current Asst. At Lafayette

3. Nick Barton - Current Asst.

Doesn't former Woodford County coach Brad Mefford teach in the system. Somebody told me a couple of years ago we would probably be the successor when Chalk left. Of course, time changes a lot of things and I haven't heard that in a while.

Does Thacker have a daughter that is getting close to high school? If so, it may come down to whether or not he wants to coach her in high school.

I have heard that Meffords daughter is going to play for Woodford county next school year. I doubt he will be the coach.

Tony Wise would be a great choice. Used to coach at Frankfort so he knows the area and is a proven coach regardless of what happened at MC.

Thacker is the obvious choice, if he wants it, he deserves it. Not sure Barton has enough experience to take over the program yet. Let Wise and Mefford ride off into the sunset. PLEASE!
