May 8, 201214 yr My brother in law and a few friends did the half. I have one friend that probably did the full if she was recovered from the Boston marathon but haven't talked to her yet to find out. I just can't run, between my numerous knee surgeries and over all poor endurance I just don't understand how people can run that far, it's simply amazing. I'm with you sf41. I can go on the elliptical for days, but the hard pavement really is killer after a knee surgery. I hada few friends run the half.

May 8, 201214 yr I didn't realize he was that skilled, wow! Some call it skilled. Some call it starting 90 minutes before any other runner.
May 8, 201214 yr It sucks for me because this race is the day after Derby virtually every year. The only exception is when the race is on May 1. Tough to pull a back-to-back Derby Marathon followed by a real marathon the next day. I have heard it is a challenging course. Last year when the race was on May 1, I had already signed up for Louisville which was the day before. For those that doubt their abilities, running like anything else is a skill. It takes a couple years to fully capture your form. I think running a marathon should be on everyone's bucket list.
May 8, 201214 yr I was thinking about running it and then realized, I am way too fat and out of shape. I get winded going from the couch to the fridge. Heck, I complain if I have to drive my car longer than 10 miles. Congrats to all those that ran.

Pretty sweet.

May 8, 201214 yr One of my friends ran in this. He was one of the "Spot On" pace setters. His pace was 3:10, and his official time was 3:09:14. He said at first I was disappointed that I had to sacrifice my "Pig" to be a pacer, but that at the end of the race he said it was one of the most rewarding things he had ever done. He is also running the "Dances with Dirt" in Gnaw Bone which is a 50 miler this weekend. He also has a 100 miler scheduled as well. Not sure when that is or where yet...

With a 3:09 at the pig I'm sure they could be a Boston Qualifier somewhere else. If their age/gender didn't make that a qualifying time there.

I was a pacer at a local half-marathon. 1:50 group and brought them in at 1:49:47. Being a pacer is awesome and rewarding. Your friend is obviously a beast.

I have a great picture of him nearing the finish. He was fresh as a daisy! I enjoy the guys and gals who celebrate that final stretch to the finish.

This is yet another reason why I don't run in addition to my numerous knee surgeries. You're friend is built just like me, except he looks about 4-5 inches taller, I'm guessing 6'2 or 6'3 and he looks like he probably weighs about 50-60 lbs less than I do as well. He's built to run, I'm built to play fullback.
