Richard Pitino to FIU

Featured Replies

How old is Richard?

Kind of surprised by this one. Thought it would be a few years more before Junior went out on his own.

Is this a hit to the Cards?

Is FIU a decent job? What conference do they play in?

Asking because I don't know much about the situation. Hoping Cards fans and other can help.

His is around 32 or 33.

Richard is 29.

Yes this is a sting to the Cards. Richard handles a lot of the scouting.

Interesting info from this article:

Rick Pitino confirmed through text message that Richard Pitino will take U of L staffers Mark Lieberman and Casey Stanley with him to FIU.

Lieberman, a FIU alum and former Miami Monsignor Pace High School head coach, spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach and this past season as director of basketball operations. Stanley was the Cards’ assistant video coordinator this past season.

Richard Pitino was one of three new assistants for U of L last year. The elder Pitino made each sign a two-year contract after the unexpected exodus of Tim Fuller following the 2010-11 season led to some recruiting defections.

There was a clause in the contract that provided a loophole, stating the assistants would not “actively seek, negotiate for or accept other full-time employment of any nature during the term of this contract without first having obtained the written permission of the head coach in men’s basketball.”

Richard Pitino will inherit a program in disarray. The Panthers have had 12 straight losing seasons. Players, upset with Thomas’ firing, staged a walkout during the school’s athletic awards banquet on Monday.

Several players had also asked for their release from the school, although FIU has so far denied those requests, according to the Miami Herald.

The most interesting thing about that article is that they failed to credit the source who actually broke the story. Not surprising though...

It's impossible to give credit and share Pitino's comments?

Why should they give credit to anyone? They got some comments from the guy's father and boss. Did anyone else get those?

They should give credit because it's the right thing to do. That's cool though. On to the next one...

Thank you.

Probably a good move for young Pitino. FIU is certainly a stepping-stone job and there is no reason to think a school in Miami couldn't at least be competitive in the Sun Belt. His recruiting ability should help secure some players. I hope he is successful.

I don't have an ego.

They should work harder to report the news, then.
