April 11, 201214 yr Someone asked Joe Reedy about this and he said "the wheels are turning." Probably be good for both if it happened.
April 11, 201214 yr Depends on what the Giants give up if it happens. I caught this rumor on a message board last night but didn't think it was legit. Apparently Rivers is in NYC today, wonder if it has anything to do with this. I've heard Rivers is pretty good just injury prone. Is that true Bengal fans?
April 11, 201214 yr This has really picked up a lot of steam since last night. Giants beat writer and Bengals have basically implied something might happen. I'll be upset if the GMen give up more that a 5th rounder since Demeco Ryans went for a 4th.
April 11, 201214 yr If Rivers can stay on the field, that's a HUGE if, he's got talent. Not a "game-changing" backer, but solid. I'd be all for it if they can acquire a 4th rounder. I was expecting the Bengals to draft over Rivers this season anyways.
April 11, 201214 yr I remember reading recently that River's injury (wrist I think) may never heal properly. I agree that if Rivers is healthy he has first round talent.

Ryans has more value than Rivers.
April 11, 201214 yr More on this from PFT h20: The bigger question will be compensation. Last month, the Eagles secured Pro Bowl middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans from the Texans for a fourth-round pick and flip-flopping of third-rounder choices. Rivers has a better draft pedigree but less of a career than Ryans. The Bengals may not get much, if they indeed will be moving on by moving Rivers out. ======================= I guess we need to know more about the flip-flopping and who that benefited more?

He always seemed a step slow to me.
April 11, 201214 yr I still think a 4th is too much. Rivers didn't even play last year. Ryans has shown he's one of the better MLB's in the league.
April 11, 201214 yr I remember reading recently that River's injury (wrist I think) may never heal properly. I agree that if Rivers is healthy he has first round talent. First round talent; 4th round production. One of those guys who can't seem to live up to his talent in production on the field. That being said, I wouldn't give him up for nothing just to move him because I am not sold on the starting outside linebackers the Bengals currently have. I have heard Rivers wants out of Cincinnati so that is probably a factor.

My thinking is this is a business and I would keep Rivers too unless he is making "too much" money for the Bengals overall team plans.
April 11, 201214 yr Thomas Howard made me forget about Rivers last season. I hope they trade Rivers! I also hope we can get the best back up signed Brandon Johnson.

Howard and Lawason are stud out side linebackers!
April 11, 201214 yr Thomas Howard had a great season last year he played a lot better than Rivers. Howard and Lawason are stud out side linebackers! Manny Lawson struggled at the end of the season IMO. It was obvious teams were picking on him. He kept playing the wrong gaps and big plays were happening right where he should have been making stops. Look at the tackles numbers for Lawson. He was middle of the pack as an outside LB. Even Rivers can play better than that. The Bengals thought so much of Lawson they gave him a one year contract.
April 11, 201214 yr I agree with VOR, the Bengals could not have been all that excited about Lawson because they let him look at all his Free Agent options and then brought him back on a one year deal. All this tells me there has to be more to the Rivers possible trade.
