Keith Rivers to the Giants?

Featured Replies

Lawson plays strong side. Rivers is a weak side linebacker.

Thomas Howard is the listed as the starter at weak side this is why they are trading Rivers.

My other thought is Rivers might not be that tough. He broke his wrist. I seen high school linebackers playing with broken wrists this past season with casts on them.

Umm, high school compared to NFL? I have no idea how "tough" Rivers is, but you cannot be serious with your comparison. Oh, but I forgot, you probably are comparing SK players to NFL.

I have seen plenty of NFL players wear a club cast on there wrist.

Sounds like a deal between the Bengals and Giants for LB Keith Rivers could get completed by the end of the day. Stay tuned

Ralph Vacciano a Giants beat writer said that if a deal gets done it will likely be today.

Mike Garofolo says the deal is going to happen. Rivers will be traded to New York according to him.

Well, this went from message-board rumor to almost a done deal in a hurry.

The Giants are finalizing details on a trade with the Bengals for linebacker Keith Rivers, according to someone informed of the progress of talks. The person requested anonymity because final details are still being worked out.

"It's going to happen," the person wrote in an email.

Compensation between the sides remains unclear at this point.

Giants are apparently giving up a 5th rounder for Rivers.

I'm told the Giants will be giving the Bengals their 5th-round pick in the 2012 draft for LB Keith Rivers. #NYG

A contract extension will not be part of the deal. Rivers will apparently still be a free agent after this year.

Seems kind of strange. Do they need LBers that bad?

I don't really consider it needing one that bad to give up a 5th round draft pick (which happens to be the last pick in that round) for a former #9 overall pick.

Doesn't mean they can't still extend him later on down the line. An extension simply wasn't part of the trade agreement.

As far as the Giants needing linebackers? They still haven't re-signed Chase Blackburn or Jonathan Goff (who missed the entire year). Blackburn came off the street very late in the season and started right away and led the Giants defense to a super bowl. I don't think linebacker is an extremely important position for the Giants. Not one they're going to over value anyways. They will likely now start some combination of J. Williams, Michael Boley and Keith Rivers. It's possible Boley will slide over to middle linebacker. They also apparently really like Herzlich and they also still have Kiwanuka (who could move back to defensive end).

It's time for Rivers to have a new look.
