Who is in the running for the Nelson Co Job?

Featured Replies

It appears that the holdup IS teaching positions or lack thereof. The good and bad with a head coaching search at this time of the year is getting someone and allowing them to get to work ASAP with offseason, spring ball, hiring new asst's, etc. However, school systems haven't yet done "intent sheets" or student scheduling for next school year. This is way that schools begin to see which teaching jobs might open due to retirement, advancement, transfers, increases in enrollment, etc. Nelson does not have a provision like some school districts that can "bump" teachers to make a spot for a new head coach.

so I guess the guy from X didnt get the job, or he didnt want the job

I wouldn't take a job coaching football if they didn't have a teaching position available for me.

I think all of us are realizing that maybe coaching wasn't the total problem at Nelson.

It's amazing what the lack of support from a schools administration can do to the downfall program..if in fact this is really whats going on??! It kinda makes you wonder if the student "walk out" at Nelson was directed at more than just football?! I hope things get figured out there quick, because Im sure this is taking it's toll on the kids..

There was no coaching problem. the AD- principal-boosters were 100% behind Coach Mason. Some "high-rollers" that have the super "in-bed", heard from a guy (Dugan) that he could deliver Mike Holcomb. The high-rollers insisted that the super get Mason out! She did...Holcomb refused the job...now we have a mess!

Districts that truely believe athletics are important to the well being of the school system will get the BEST coach and create a job!

Where I am at a loss is, that if the superintendent "made" this move, why isn't she movtivated to make the hire happen and create a teaching job. Unfortunately, it sounds as if the "high rollers" and those making the decisions there, clearly don't understand the importance what goes on within a high school football program during the months of January - June. Many "administrative minded" folks simply think football begins on July 15th.

Lets hope that something gives very soon! The Cardinal program falls behind more and more with each day lost. :madman:

This is why they have gone form a State Champ to a 0-10 diaster in just under 10 years. This Amdinistration and community have some real trouble stemming form somewhere and it needs to be sniffed out.

The super inherited the 96 state championship. 96 was her first year. First year in she cut ALL athletic funding! The sports had to become self sustaining. The AD pays out $35K for athletic travel that in 96 was picked up by the BOE. That $35K went towards unis, gear, jackets, food, and T's to kids who play sports.

Rumor has it that Coach Bruner has been selected as the new head coach at Nelson.. Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone provide a bio of the coach Bruner? Wins / losses at previous head coach positions.

That too is what I'm hearing, but I believe Coach Bruner is HE/PE certified and the job posting from the last couple weeks is (I believe) "anticipated". That means the admin THINKS they MAY have a job available next fall. I do not see any of the current NCHS HE/PE teachers leaving. I doubt Coach Bruner would accept a position to coach without signing a teaching contract. I hope I'm wrong and all is well.

If I were Coach Bruner, I would not rely upon the "good faith" representations of the good Dr. that an HE-PE position will open up.

It would be a good fit

I have heard February 23rd as the magic date. That is the date the teaching position closes. It is Coach Bruner's IF he wants it.

There's no definite teaching position, so I do not know how it will "close." That date (Feb. 23rd) may be the 30th day of the posting of the anticipated HE/PE position. The system has also posted an anticipated science and social studies jobs, I assume those are posted assuming Coach Mason and his wife are leaving? But the way I understand it he has no plans to leave? Like I've said, most teachers/coaches will not verbally accept a job unless he/she signs a contract. I'd love to see the SUPER show a sign of a little support by biting the bullet and creating a position for the coach! I'd just like for there to be a leader in place. The kids deserve better than how they are being treated. Coach Bruner has been on some of the best staffs in the state (if not the country) and would be a great hire for NCHS, but it may be difficult to get him?

I also heard that the savior of NCHS football (Mike Holcomb) is waiting until next season to make his way back to Nelson County...but not to be a Cardinal...to be a TIGER! Apparently he wanted no part of the 4-A region NC is in or the split in the talent that is about 4-5 years away when Nelson County opens a new high school.

Interesting. Of course Holcomb's sister teaches at Bardstown, but I think the Bardstown School Board, Superintendent Holsclaw, and A.D. David Clark are pretty much in lockstep as to where the Tiger football program is headed.
