Who is in the running for the Nelson Co Job?

Featured Replies

There's no definite teaching position, so I do not know how it will "close." That date (Feb. 23rd) may be the 30th day of the posting of the anticipated HE/PE position. The system has also posted an anticipated science and social studies jobs, I assume those are posted assuming Coach Mason and his wife are leaving? But the way I understand it he has no plans to leave? Like I've said, most teachers/coaches will not verbally accept a job unless he/she signs a contract. I'd love to see the SUPER show a sign of a little support by biting the bullet and creating a position for the coach! I'd just like for there to be a leader in place. The kids deserve better than how they are being treated. Coach Bruner has been on some of the best staffs in the state (if not the country) and would be a great hire for NCHS, but it may be difficult to get him?

I also heard that the savior of NCHS football (Mike Holcomb) is waiting until next season to make his way back to Nelson County...but not to be a Cardinal...to be a TIGER! Apparently he wanted no part of the 4-A region NC is in or the split in the talent that is about 4-5 years away when Nelson County opens a new high school.

The Kentucky Department of Education site has MULTIPLE teaching jobs posted for Nelson County. And, if they are posted there, then they are not anticipated, they are the real deal. One of those positions is Health and PE. Based on what I have heard :sssh: and have now seen with my own eyes (the posting that will end on 2/23). Look for Coach Bruner to be named on the 23rd or 24th. The folks down in Nelson County need to stay positive. It will get better!!

Interesting... Coach Holcomb at B-town... Then the question becomes what is happening with Coach Downs...I would suspect the addition of a new high school would be attractive to some Coaches due to the change in class that would occur..

I hope you are right, but according to the nelson co BOE document (I'm looking right now), the job listing is anticipated. The kids desire a coach. Like I have said...I heard (from the a.m. hang out) Bruner was the #2 choice and was excited to meet him. I'm sure a coach is better than no coach...but it doesn't change the politics that will root the next coach out and it doesn't change the superintendent or HS admin!

Coach Downs is retiring.

Is this confirmed?

Is this confirmed?

I believe that would be after the 06 season? No, I can't imagine that being confirmed, but I wouldn't doubt it :sssh: . I've heard a short list (suposedly from Holsclaw) 1) Mark Brown :scared: 2) Mike Holcomb 3) Dave Clark

Clark would seem to be the obvious choice. A.D., offensive coordinator, young, been with program a good while, knows kids, etc. etc. etc.

Which coach Downs?

Joey Downs of Bardstown

Mark Brown graduated from Nelson County but never played football and Mike Holcomb played and graduated from Nelson County. I would be shocked if Bardstown would hire a graduate of Nelson County.

Mark Brown never played football? Really? Wow, he is one heck of a coach. But he is not leaving John Hardin. Why would he? Dugan is back at Nelson and he can create trouble and apparently has. Just speculation, derived from his history, but I will stop at that.

NOT to take anything away from Holcomb or Brown, they are both very good coaches. But, Bardstown has great history and tradition and one of the things that has aided in this is the longevity of its coaches. Bardstown has had 3 head coaches since 1928. SO why hire a coach that coudl retire at anytime or in the next five years????? What does that do for a program????

Great Point,

I am so young I wasnt alive the last coaching change at B-Town, but dont they have a tradion of promoting from within?

That seems to me the way other places, (MAYFIELD) make sure things dont change too much and tradion keeps on rolling
