March 13, 201214 yr I do not condone it, especially the killing of kids but after you read the following quote by Karzi, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black. Don't this happen everyday over there, what about killing our troops over a mistake in burning the Koran An enraged Afghan President Hamid Karzai called it "an assassination, an intentional killing of innocent civilians" that cannot be forgiven. He demanded an explanation from Washington for the deaths, which included nine children and three women. March 13, 201214 yr Or agree with it and wished it never happened. Agreed and agreed. We as a society do need to be sensitive to the number of soldiers who are suffering Post Traumatic Stress from what's going on.
March 13, 201214 yr Author Just seems when a U.S. soldier is killed by some fanatic over there, it is ok, not like it is a big deal, but when we do something we are the devil.
March 13, 201214 yr Just seems when a U.S. soldier is killed by some fanatic over there, it is ok, not like it is a big deal, but when we do something we are the devil. Zero chance anyone thinks a soldier being killed is "OK" or not a "big deal."
March 13, 201214 yr Just another reason we should finish the job and get the heck out of dodge. I do not condone any of our military killing kids. Also will say I don't know what triggered this behavior in the mind of this soldier. United States biggest problem is we are playing by a set of rules that make no sense to me. My unlce always taught me that there is no such thing as a even fight. There is always going be someone bigger, stronger, smart, tougher.....So you have to decide if you want to win or just fight to say you faught. Our problem is we are not in this to win. If we wanted to win this thing would have been over in a matter of days. Quit playing by a set of rules designed for a board game. Fight to win.
March 13, 201214 yr Agreed and agreed. We as a society do need to be sensitive to the number of soldiers who are suffering Post Traumatic Stress from what's going on. I really think I'm going to have an issue if they decide to give this soldier the death penalty. Just on first glance it seems pretty obvious to me that the guy probably has been affected mentally by everything, especially considering this was his fourth deployment. Throw in the fact that he had a serious brain injury in 2010. I know he was deemed "fit to serve" later, but with everything those guys see and do, I'm suprised something like this doesn't happen more often. Just throwing it out there, and I could be very wrong with this question, but how do you know some of these kids weren't holding guns aimed at our soldiers two days before? I would imagine that he is going to be spending quite a bit of time in a psychiatric ward.
March 13, 201214 yr You put boots on the ground and this stuff happens. Name a war from the beginning of time where innocent women and children weren't killed. Name a war where women and children weren't killed in cold blood. Not saying it's right. I'm saying it's the harsh reality of war.

Name a war where women and children weren't killed in cold blood. Not saying it's right. I'm saying it's the harsh reality of war. But we've made it more likely to happen in this one. I was listening to an officer who has been through 4 deployments on the ground (nearly 5 years) in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today's soldiers have spent more time in combat zones than any previous American fighters. Think about that. Because of the small numbers in our military (comparatively speaking) we have sent the same people over and over again into "shadow of the valley of death" than ever before. We have to have a better system, more budget to enlist more soldiers, or stop fighting wars of occupation. I might add that innocents die in all wars as you say malachi but this was MURDER, not war.

I think this is a great point Hatz. I also think its different because sometimes kids are the ones carrying those guns and it is harder to differentiate the enemy mentally over time because of that.
