I'd like to Greenup get out and give Gage Hughes a chance to show his stuff at Rupp. Similar style as Jake Ohmer who stole the show this year.

The Brossart Mustangs crawl back to within one game of .500, defeating the Boone County Rebels 7-5 in 9 innings in Florence on Saturday morning. The Mustangs, presenting 2-3, will seek to even their season mark this coming Monday when we kick off a three-day home stand versus Cincinnati Turpin at the St. Mary, Alexandria ballfield.

Mustangs snap a three game losing streak (Lv DeSalles, Newport Central Catholic, Simon Kenton). Mustangs hand Calvary their first loss after a pair of wins over Dayton and Newport. I'm assuming this was a 37th District seeding contest. Mustang go to Boone County for an 11am bout with the Rebels on Saturday, and then have a three game home stand next week with Cincinnati Turpin on Monday, Mason County on Tuesday and Grant County on...

The Ken Shields book, "Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else" is completed. It is in published form with Coach Shields in possession of the "Final Copy" reviewing it one more time before we hit the print button. Our original plan was to have it completed and published prior to the onset of this just completed high school basketball season. We had sought the help of Terry Boekmker and Rick Meyers to go over our finished product and make...

The KHSAA will not be inconvenienced by having to "work" over the Thanksgiving weekend. It is asking too much of the KHSAA to be away from their families that weekend. This is the answer given at the Delegate Assembly meeting last September.

I'm from a Class A school who has been fortunate enough to get there (2000) and won a game once we got there. We've also been fortunate enough to have won the All "A" State Championship in 2007. Sort of the best of both worlds With that being said I am solidly in the corner of a one class system. Is it fair? Certainly not. Silver Grove, Calvary Christian, and the myriad of other Christ-centered and small population towns which haven't...

Unfortunately I had a commitment in Northern Kentucky Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Spent Saturday afternoon at the Red Mile playing the ponies that were running at Gulfstream Park, Tampa Bay and Mahoning Valley and after paying for my trip, I journeyed north. En-route I was listening to Mount Sterling radio and Dan Manley's partner predicted a running clock as the Eagles fell behind 17-4 early on in the game. While no one would have...

Not from Football! The KHSAA tail will wag the Kentucky High School basketball product dog, until they have squeezed the last nickle out of it. They will not accept their declining attendance as a sign of the times, but insist on cutting back, raising prices, doing away with things like the programs, and shortening the season until everybody loses interest in the overall product. For small schools, we are already squeezed with...

Here is a player who many of us have watched and been victimized by for the past four years, and even though he has scored 3,000 career points, and scored +30 a game many times, it took playing on the grandest of stages before we could all sit back, at a distance, and marvel at what a talent Jake Ohmer actually is. There was even heated banter on this site about who the best player is in our region, only to have it spelled out quite clearly...

If the player goes up on Spot A, he is only entitled to come down on Spot A. He is not permitted to come down on Spot C, with the defender being set and not initiating the contact while occupying Spot B.

Saw on the front page of the H-Leader that they are proposing a 200 million dollar baseball park/hotel/parking garage complex on the site of the present lot opposite the top (south) entrance to Rupp Arena. If that goes up the cost of parking will skyrocket. I presently park in a print shop lot on the far side of that lot - Easy in/Easy out. 10 bucks for day games. $ night.

Simply an observer's opinion - out-hustled, out-scrapped, out-played. I agree with The Professor, I too thought at that time "wrong guy trying to be the hero." I have no dog in that fight whatsoever. Yes, would have liked to have seen Elliot win, and strongly feel that they let one get away. Those are simply my feelings, feel free to express yours.

Tonight Cooper overcame the "Diarrhea Factor." Tomorrow, playing on St. Patrick's Day, they will have to overcome the "Potato Famine Factor." That and the fact that Collins probably played less than they are capable of vs Elliot County tonight, and should be MUCH MORE focused in the Elite Eight round.

Elliot grossly mismanaged time and circumstace. With three fouls to give they had ample opportunity to foul the shooter long before he became a shooter and hit the FTs that sent the game to OT. They allowed Elliot to stick around and pretty much underachieved for 32 minutes.

Elliot County with three fouls to give under a minute fails to utililize them and let's one get away. Too bad, they obviously outplayed the athletically superior Titans, who certainty didn't deserve to win.

I thought the Vinny Dumlao (sp) was instrumental early on in allowing Scott to dominate the first quarter. Congrats to the Rupp PA for pronouncing his name correctly after the abuse it took at the Fieldhouse. Another huge factor was Jake's ability to stay out of foul trouble.

Most desirable hotels are sold out, and prices are over $100 a night. Here is a tip. The Candlewood Suites at Rt 4 (Circle) and Newtown Pike. Last year I stayed there and it was great, was not sold out, and rates right at $100 a night. You actually take Newtown Pike to Rupp coming in the back. The catch is that it is what it says - a suite, beds and pullout sofa. Also fridge, microwave, stove etc.. They do not make up your room on a...

Lots of rumors swirling around the BB&T Center tonight. Two of the top ones are: NKU vs WKU - The Commissioners are "Happy with the way things are going" at NKU this week. No decision has been made for 2018. Combining the Girls and Boys State Tournaments in the future - It is already pretty much common knowledge that the basketball seasons shorten by a week next year, and that the Boys State Tournament is moving up a week to "avoid a...

My feeling is that they knew Ohmer would be covered. Pouncy got a wide-open look and took it with plenty of time for the win and for a rebound and stickback that could have sent it to overtime. The ball came off long and Ohmer happened to be in the right place and right time, put it up there, and after catching rim and backboard fell through to send the Eagles to Lexington. The key to the Campbell loss were the two consecutive turnovers...

Bracken County battled valiantly. Poor free throw shooting didn't help matters for the Polar Bears. I was surprised to read where they hit 60%. It seems like every time Campbell County needed a big basket - they got one. Hegyi a VERY QUIET 18.

Scott had a brutally tough, physical game Monday night. Campbell, not so much. It would be nice if there was at least a day of rest between the semis and finals, BUT such is not the case. At full power, this would be another war- and may still be. Either team winning is fine with me, BUT I think Camels advantage coming off of a softer prelim.

Mustang, sorry you didn't like my post. Was trying to communicate the unarguable facts that BC has to ground and pound. If they don't have the bigs heavily active and hitting the boards with putbacks, their postseason will be short lived. AC is very good, but has to have help from the other 4 that tend to disengage. Been Hinson's biggest challenge this year IMO.
