  1. Walking out and listening to the Somerset radio announcers, they sound confident, and that is good. Somerset makes their first trip to NKY, where I can't remember when a region 4 won up there. Middlesboro won at home in 98, and I don't think any region 4 team has won since at least 1990. It is a tough place to play. Somerset can't have the turnovers and like they did against Paintsville. This is a different animal, Somerset will have to play their best game of the year, if they want to advance to Louisville. There passing game was off against Paintsville it will have to be on against NCC. NCC is a very balance team, so the Somerset defense will need to be on their toes. I think if Somerset is still in the game at halftime, they will have a chance.
  2. I thought this was somewhat of a sloppy game by both teams. Lots of penalties, and turnovers, hurt both teams, it seemed to me neither team had a good flo on offense, but there defense step up and made plays. Was Pugh hurt? He was real quiet on offense, he didn't run the ball tonight like he did in the first couple of playoff games. I thought #35 ran the ball well for Paintsville, and #5 made some big time catches. #10 getting hurt for Paintsville, looked like it hurt them on offense. Somerset played very good on defense. The defense made big plays with 2 ints and block field goal, that results in 3 tds for the jumpers. Congrats to the Jumpers on winning the region and good luck to them next week against NCC. Congrats to Paintsville on a fine season, I hope everyone had a safe trip home because they looked to be a bad wreck between Somerset and London, that killed several horses, and the chopper was called in.
  3. I don't feel the pass beat us against Paintsville, it was the run. I think Paintsville scored two their first two tds threw the air, but those drives were made by the runs of Pugh, Ward, and Freno. Paintsville had good balance on offense in those drives, but if you stop their run, I think they are in trouble. They are not a drop back passing team, they need their running game working to make their passing game work. Also I feel for Paintsville to win this game, Ward needs to get the ball alot. As cold as it will be, I think a 240 pound+ fullback coming at you all night, will gain yards. Somerset has a huge speed advantage, Pugh will not be able to make the number of big plays he did the last two weeks, others will need to step up for Paintsville. I feel Paintsville will need to get 2 to 3 stops on defense per half, and be able to answer on those stops, if they can do that their chances improve greatly.
  4. I think the weather could have an impact on this game. If it is cold like it is tonight, it could make it hard for Somerset to catch the football.
  5. I think Lynn Camp will have a pretty solid team next year. They will return 1,000 yard rusher Joe Roskopf who really turned it on the last 3 games. LC was one of the top rushing teams in Class A this year, and with 4 out 5 starting lineman returning, you think the offense will be good. Sidney Wagner I feel will really step up, and could be another great back to come out LC. Scott Bray should be a pretty solid fullback, he has improved greatly over the course of the season. The defense returns 6 or 7 starters. Michael Hall had a big year on the dline and I look for him to have a even bigger year coming up. Cameron Simpson is another player that has improved greatly over the season, and good off season, and he will have a big year. I think we will be in the hunt for the district and region title next year. I'm hoping the tough heartbreaking games that we lost, makes next years team more determine, if it does we could have a good year.
  6. Durell Olinger Hazard Daniel Pugh Paintsville Ross Deaton Somerset Thomas Fraizer Williamsburg Nick Scalf Lynn Camp Chase Huffman Pikeville
  7. The kicker had no chance. Paintsville broke the line, and the ball barely left his foot before it was blocked.
  8. Lynn Camp lost two games by one point, and at the end of both games had a field goal blocked.
  9. Jimmy Chaffin had close 1600 yards rushing over 25 tds Joe Roskopf Lynn Camp had around 1100 yards and over 20 tds Josh Reynolds Lynn Camp had around 1000 yards and over 15 tds Scott Newell has over 1200 yards Mefford has over 1300 yards Thompson had over 1200 yards Doderer has over 1000 yards
  10. From EKY, some of the better ones I seen, Jimmy Chaffin Lynn Camp, Scott Newell Somerset, Teddy Thompson Harlan, Dustin Mefford Evarts, Weston Robinson Pikeville, Preston Smith Hazard, Joe Roskopf Lynn Camp, Josh Reynolds, Lynn Camp, and Hans Doderer Paintsville.
  11. Actually I don't believe Paintsville set the cruise control, they basically did the same things on offense the second half as they did in the first. I felt more than anything that Paintsville got tired in the 4th quarter, and it would have been tough for them if the game went into ot. The kicking game was huge in theis game, because not only was the block at the end big, but Paintsville did an excellent on punts and kickoffs, they got some really nice and crazy bounces, that really changed the field of play.
  12. Chaffin hit his hip early in the game, and only carried it a few times. We just come out real flat, and didn't line up right on defense. There was one play we got lucky, because we got a timeout called before they could snap the ball, because the defense was confused and left a wide out wide open, if we didn't get the timeout it was a td. Once the coaches got them lineup right they really played well on defense. Paintsville didn't do much of anything in the second half. We just dug ourselves to big of a hole in the first half.
  13. No team from region 4 has made the finals since 1998 when Middlesboro won it all. Middlesboro was heads and shoulders above everyone in the region that year, and you could tell they had the team to win it. I don't feel that there is a team like that now. I do think there is some very good football teams, in fact the region as a whole is better than in 1998, but beating teams up North is easier said than done. Both teams left have very good offenses, but who ever wins region 4, imo will be slowed down on offense, and the question is can they slow down the teams up North. It will take defense not offense to win.
  14. Will Stewart could be a solid football player, but what I thought hurt him at Lynn Camp, is he didn't come to practice all the time. When you miss practice and play the linebacker position, it makes it hard to play. Lynn Camp linebackers and fullback played just fine this season.
  15. Good Photos except the one of the scoreboard at the end.
  16. I think this could be a a great game. It will be hard to top the last two regional championship games played in this region. I think for Somerset to win they need a big game from their playmakers. Norman and Cole, must have big numbers, and Scotty Newell making big runs at important times in the game. This is a very explosive offense, and if it rolling early it could be a long night for the Tigers. For Paintsville, I think they need to pound the ball right at Somerset. The Qb draw, and the draw to the fullback will need to work. I was also impressed with #10 (TJ Freno I believe) He runs hard at keeps his feet moving, plus he can catch the ball, so he is a double threat. Paintsville don't have the wide outs Somerset has, but they are pretty solid. Daniel Pugh, what can you say just a very gifted QB, that is very tough to bring down. I wish I had a stat of how many times LC had him wrapped up and he broke away. Doderer being back will help, but how effective will he be? If he can take the load off of Pugh and Freno, I think Paintsville can stay with Somerset, but if not, I think the Jumpers will roll. Being at home, where Somerset is very tough, and the long bus, Paintsville will need to be fresh in the first half. That really hurt Lynn Camp, I don't what it was, but that was as flat as I every seen that group of kids, and it ended up costing them. Somerset can't get too over confident, they need to stay focus, and not worry about what going on up North, or Paintsville could be making the trip North instead. I don't think that will happen. I like Somerset in this one, and I think they jump out early, and Paintsville comes back, only for Somerset to put the game away. Somerset 38 Paintsville 22 Somerset
  17. No information slipped past me. But no Coach Mitchell has not stepped down as Coach.
  18. Rockcastle County Somerset Fort Campbell Boyle County Henry Clay Lexington Catholic Warren Central Western Bardstown Newport Catholic 35
  19. I still don't believe that a team in region 4 has enough defense to make it Louisville. No team has impressed me enough in this region to beat the likes of NCC or LCA. The region has shown they can score, but the teams up North can play defense, and they will slow down the offensive teams in region 4, I don't believe they have enough defense to slow them down.
  20. Also, your going to have the New Harlan County School, which will take out Cawood, Cumberland and Evarts. This has Evarts in a 4 team district will Corbin, Middlesboro and Somerset, and that would make it a 3 team district. Also I think Hazard should be in district 7 in class a and Jenkins in district 8.
  21. This should be a great game, I got to see the first matchup, and the second one will be hard to top that. Rock I think have been waiting for this game. Dudley will have Bell ready, and it will be a war. Both teams had trouble running the football, and if that continues, I think it favors Bell with Buckeye Hunter. But I think Rock will win this game in the end. Rock 24 Bell 19
  22. This will be a tough matchup for Paintsville. Paintsville is big and more physcial than I thought they would be. A long trip, could hurt. I think Somerset will win by 2 tds or more.
  23. Great game tonight, but from my side a side ending for some great seniors, that really left their mark on the LC program. First half, I don't know what was wrong, but imo it was the worse half of football that we played since the Leslie County game. Chaffin going down, really hurt, but Joe Roskopf and Josh Reynolds stepped up and played great. Two of the three losses by one point. Two points seperate you from winning the distrcit and playing for the region. This is a type of game from our end you love to play again, but of course that can't happen, Paintsville earned the hard fought win, and makes the journey to Somerset. Mojo thank you for helping me out this week, it was a big help. Good luck.
