Even in the worst years, Dixie has won how many years? CCH plays at a different level when the pressure is one. Even I have to give CCH the nod.

A tougher schedule outside of the Division III conference to get ready to take on the big schools in the district and regional tournaments. Seem to always have a good team with talent, but play a schedule to pad the win column which does not get them to "game speed" for the tournaments.

Won't hurt the NKY volleyball respect either. Go job PANDAS!!!

I have to agree. The zoning is not going to change just because of CCH. I have said this before, they have wanted lights for about 20+ years and it has not yet happenned. And its not from a lack of influential CCH alum, friends, and family in politics and the construction industry.

This should be a very simple concept for everyone to understand - public or private, tradition vs. wanting lights, $$$ or not, the lights WILL NEVER BECOME A REALITY until the zoning rules are changed. And I sincerely doubt that is ever going to happen. I will say this argument has had some entertainment value in the past: The Beechwood game with rented lights, The trees planted by the Biology classes as projects that are now maturing to block the view of the neighboring houses, The passing of an admission hat to those neighbors that would have block parties to watch the games way back when, and even the year Highlands brought the cannon over to one of the back yards.....now that was entertaining. :deadhorse:

The taxpayers are exactly who keep CCH from getting lights with the restricted zoning, etc. This has been so for 30 years and will not change, not even with the influence that CCH parents, friends, alum, and family have in the political and construction community. Enjoy and embrace the tradition!!! It's not like things are going to change.:deadhorse:

I was there. Pat Roesel or Scott Tranter caught the ball 400+ in the grove of CF trees which is now behind the TMC centerfield fence. Need to add Robby Newman to the list from CCH '88 - until Maile, best hitter I saw out of CCH.

Agree - you need the whole package for a long-term, successful program no matter what the sport.

Coach needs to be deaf to the stands, focus on the girls, and not grow rabbit ears. Takes some backbone and consistency to be a good coach these days.

Coaching salaries are not considered or factored into the tuition. They are covered by the sports fees and fruit sale that NDA does every winter. Tuition is strictly for the academics. $3-4K for private, $5-6K in public depending on rank, education level and years of service - it is a sliding scale. I would be pressed to believe someone from the public school system would jump. IMO - Marty Petroze is the best choice given his knowledge, personality, and recent experience in the program. Kes - dunno. BTW - I've never known Dick to do anything for "free".:taz:

He'll fit right in with the rest of the Boone County High School coaches who coach the Explosion summer team. All four schools are going to be solid next year.

Completely up to the school's AD when they fill out the transfer paperwork. Do they check played in Varsity competition or not?

NDA does put academics first, no doubt about that and their success in the classroom and with scholarships speaks for itself. "I don't like it but kids are not able to play multiple sports any longer." - paNDA I totally disagree. The good athletes can play 3 sports and still excel up until Varsity, then that's when they need to pick. They don't need to pick in grade school and junior high for sure. Society and the local high school programs, along with parents, are driving and accepting this as normal. Just like we has a society have developed an "everyone wins" philosophy in the grade school and junior high. We need to get back to letting the kids play multiple sports, if they want to, and learn some disappointment along the way so they are prepared in life. You should have seen the neighborhood high school kid who didn't get hired during his first job interview. He didn't know how to handle it, that somebody actually was chosen in front of him. By playing multiple sports, you don't put all your eggs in one basket and you give yourself options in case of a specific injury, politics, etc.

On the contrary, the feeder schools (Agnes, Joes, BS, and Pius) have 7th and 8th grade "A" teams that play twice as many games (50ish) as the varsity teams. They play in two leagues and a handful of tournaments, then turn around and play AAU basketball. Yet has this made a drastic improvement in NDA basketball in recent years? Maybe the kids should concentrate on their academics first and basketball second. The grade school coaches and parents have this perception that you "have to play" this many games and for these teams/coaches to play at the next level. Wrong - you can practice the game on your own, in your own driveway, and still make a high school team. If you're good enough to play, and the coach wants to win (and you need to put the parents and politics aside), then they will take the best overall players and athletes.:puke:

My opinions are based on personal experiences and first hand observations. Nothing personal, and nothing bad, JMO but I don't see as a good fit for the NDA position.

Do high school teams and coaches require their players to play summer ball? If so, what high schools? Do they require them to play for certain summer teams that feed the high school? What grade should girls be required to dedicate theirselves to one sport?

Do high school coaches require basketball players to play AAU to make the high school team? If so, what grade do the girls have to decide to play on an AAU team and give up other sports?

Fair enough, "every girl" I know would not, so we'll just agree to disagree based on personal experiences.:deadhorse: For his knowledge :notworthy: I guess we'll just have to sit back and see what NDA decides to do. :popcorn:

Dick was the head coach at NDA back in the late 80s and has jumped around NDA, CCH, Holy Cross, and now Pius with his granddaughters over the last 20 years. Don't get me wrong, there is no doubt he knows basketball and has the experience, but the kids don't respond to him and its his way or the highway which is not so bad when your head coach. NDA is in a flux right now with their coaches and having so much turnover at the head coach level with no continuity hurts the programs as a whole. My bet is on hiring Marty to keep some continuity, Keri Shields to get some new energy in the program, or bring Kes Murphy in since to knows the feeder schools and has been around NDA the last few years.

Maile is not the answer - knows the game but does not know the kids. There are reasons why he does not coach at CCH, NDA, or Holy Cross anymore.

Played for both, coached against both. They are both out of the same mold when it comes to teaching baseball fundamentals, pitching, hard work, hustle, demanding respect for the team and the game, and winning. The obvious difference is personality - Coach M is not afraid to get fired up and Krumps just grunts his orders. Krumps' time and work on the field is second to none, Coach M's time and dedication to scouting/studying the opponent is also second to none. You either love them or hate them, but both have my respect. :notworthy: You do have to respect their success, but I give Krumps the slight edge especially if you look the coaching tree that he has built - Wilhoit, Roesel, Beiger, Meier, Ecks (before he came back), etc. (did I miss any Old Guy) - all went on to build winning programs at schools in NKY.

Collins is a masterful coach at Ryle and will have them in the top 5 all year. Doesn't hurt to have Horton around as one of your assistants. Lot of soccer experience and knowledge on the staff.
