What dmderringer10 said, but thats about it! You PR/CR, PH anything that gets you into the book and it's consider a appearance in a varsity game and as such, you will sit out a year!

Completely up to the school's AD when they fill out the transfer paperwork. Do they check played in Varsity competition or not?

I though the rule was if you lettered in a varsity sport you have to sit out? Not if you played in one game or not.

So you can get the AD to wave the 1 out? He was only there to dress with the guys for support and then a kid go hurt and they put him in. He didn't want to refuse to go in as he didn't know what might happen then.

No. IF the AD knows that your son played varsity he is obligated to put it on the report. However, even for the scenario described above he is a varsity athlete by KHSAA transfer rules.

A student whose parents reside outside the state of Ohio but within the United States will be ineligible for interscholastic athletics in a member school. (See Bylaw 4-8-1 for eligibility requirements for students whose parents live outside the United States). Note: A biological or adoptive parent must reside in Ohio.

When is it up to the parent or kid to decide whether he/she plays or not? They have no control over that. If he/she plays on a team, then aren't they expecting to play at some point? How would you go about doing that? "Hey coach, don't put my kid in because he is transferring"! Seriously!!!

It depends on your mindset about potentially transferring. I know of at least one case where a dad knew his son was probably transferring. The kid had just been moved up to varsity. The dad told the coach not to play him because they were thinking about leaving. The coach didn't. The kid left. Played immediately.

Sounds like a typical case of Dad thinks his kid is all that and goes to the big baseball school and quickly finds out he is just another average Joe. Happens more than people know or Dads want to admit.

In the example I mentioned and one other example at the same school both players went onto very successful high school basketball careers.
