When is it up to the parent or kid to decide whether he/she plays or not? They have no control over that. If he/she plays on a team, then aren't they expecting to play at some point? How would you go about doing that? "Hey coach, don't put my kid in because he is transferring"! Seriously!!!

He or she is still your son or daughter and you believe it or not, you still have complete control. As Clyde said, if you think you might transfer, then inform the Coach or the AD that your child is not to play varsity, so when they do transfer they can play right away.

You are correct in your statement that a lot of parents think the child is better than they really are and when reality hits, they are upset.

In the example I mentioned and one other example at the same school both players went onto very successful high school basketball careers.

Well in that case and if it's the one I'm thinking of then right move! I was generalizing per a certain school. I guess it is a case per case basis.

All this talk about transferring has be wondering... According to NCLB act a parent can move his or her child if the schools overall tests score do not improve (paraphrasing) Say if a school district fails to perform or improve performance in test scores and the parents elect to move his or her child that has played in a(or a bunch of) varsity game(s) do transfer rules still apply? Or are they null and void?

NCLB has zero bearing on athletics, and it shouldn't.

But the school is the directing force, the head of the snake so to speak in athletics... So you are telling me that if a student athlete’s school is not living up to standards, they would have to sit a year if moving to a new district because of the stimulation in NCLB... Sounds odd to me. Ya would think logic would prevail and academics would come before athletics, and a student athlete would not be punished for trying to improve his/her academic surroundings. I'm sorry, I missed the bolded part in your initial post. If they move to the district, I doubt the KHSAA would keep them from playing if it truly is an academic issue. Transferring without moving is a different story.
