  7. Cooksey steps aside McPeek tabbed interim coach with recommendation By ROCKY STANLEY -- The Independent WESTWOOD — WESTWOOD Rex Cooksey answered the call when Fairview needed a football coach late last summer. Now, he’s stepping aside after his shortest of three stints guiding the Eagles’ football program. “I felt like it was the right time,’’ Cooksey said of his recent resignation. He guided the Eagles to a 6-5 record and Class A playoff appearance last season. The rest of the story can be seen at... http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_363161520.html

  13. You're right about NewCath -- I deleted it in error on my list... ...are you forgetting Russell in 2005 (2A State Champs) and 2006 (2A State Runners-up, but best "true" 2A team in 2006)? Also, Belfry in 2003 and 2004 (2A State Champs) ...Eastern Kentucky has and will continue to compete against the more affluent "Triangle" teams... Just a note -- send us some of your higher paying jobs and we'll compete with you "year in and year out"...
  14. I'll place their regular season records for you...you missed NewCath LaSalle 5-5 NewCath 9-1 Beechwood 8-2 Elder 7-3 St Charles 5-5 St X 10-0 That's a regular season non-district opponents' record of 44-16...great opponents and obviously tougher competition than Lawrence County's...
  15. Once again, the Massey ratings are not useful in my analogy... Please provide your teams' non-district opponents' regular season record and stack it up against Lawrence County's non-district opponents' regular season record of 60-9. What other team had to face teams with "this record"...not of the caliber of the "elite" teams around Louisville, Lexington, and NKY, but with the record of 60-9? Let's face it -- the "great football teams" around Lexington, Louisville, and NKY will continue to pound the rest of the state for "supremacy"...I'm simply stating that there is no other team that faced non-district opponents' 60-9 regular season record!
  16. Massey takes Lawrence County's district schedule into account -- this decreases Lawrence County's schedule strength...(I have included only the regular season records for Lawrence County's district opponents.) Boyd County 4-6 Greenup County 3-7 Rowan County 2-8 I say again, will somebody please provide a better non-district (teams that YOUR school gets to choose) opponents' record than Lawrence County had in 2007?
  17. That is a 60-9 regular season record for its 7 non-district opponents... ...list your "elite" programs' regular season records vs. their non-district opponents and we'll compare... ...I'm sure that they are BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER teams than Lawrence County's opponents; however, I'm curious -- show me!
  18. Greenup County was very successful in its 1st year using the Tony Franklin system on its way to the District Championship in 4A-8. Over the last 6 games (3 regular season and 3 playoffs), the Musketeers averaged 36 points per game in going 4-2. Both were 1-point losses.
  19. One of the toughest schedules for non-district opponents in 2007: Lawrence County: Regular season records only: Coal Grove, OH (7-2) (Won tough Ohio Valley Conference in SE Ohio) Belfry (10-0) (Lost in 3A Finals) Sheldon Clark (8-2) (Lost to Belfry in 3A District Final) Prestonsburg (7-3) (Lost to DeSales in 2A Regional Final) Russell (9-1) (Lost to Breathitt County in 3A Regional Final) Breathitt County (10-0) (Lost to Belfry in 3A State Semi Final) Letcher County Central (9-1) (Lost to Highlands in 5A Regional Final)
  20. I was sitting here thinking about Greenup County's football team and wondering what things they could do to make 2008 football team better and be a very dominating team in the 4A district. I know it may be to early to talk about this but I would like to see them go above and beyond their abilities that I know they have. Let's hear some of your thought's and comments. IMO I see them going far in 2008 season by learning from some of their mistakes they made and improving on them very well and going further than what they did last year's season. (I copied this from the Rockcastle thread which has been open since 12/12/07. I replaced Rockcastle with Greenup County.) Does 2008 season become a rebuilding season. Lost alot of linemen and some great running backs. We know that where the battle is won or lost is at the line. Will Craft have any protection. Also we do have the coach oy the year! Any thoughts? (This was copied from the closed "Greenup 2008?" thread.)
  21. One interesting fact...by season's end, Eric Craft did not have his #1 and #2 receivers available: (Jr.) Drew Hannah #25 went down with a knee injury during pre-game of the Raceland game. (Missed 9 of 13 games.) (Jr.) David Berry #30 was injured while running through the hoop during pre-game introductions of the Rowan County playoff game. (Missed 3 of 13 games.)
  22. Here are Eric Craft's passing stats from this season: 13 Games 324 Attempts 166 Completions 15 TDs 14 Ints 1,713 Yards Passing
  23. Oops...I was corrected today. Greenup County made the Final Four in 1974, not 1984...
  24. I see Lee Evans in the poll, but no listing for Mike Sammons. No love for Greenup County...again...hmmmmm.
