  1. Does anybody have the scores from all of the games played since the early 70's? It is my understanding that GCHS has won only 8 times and each of those games were played @ GCHS. Russell will cruise and look forward to the real challenge of their early schedule with Boyd and Ashland. This game is a laugher now with all of the turmoil going on in Lloyd.
  2. The kicker might be the MVP since QB Eric Craft came up lame in the Ironton game. The injury has something to do with his throwing motion, although I am not quite sure which part of his body is injured. Sources tell me that several GCHS players were injured during the weekend, including a 4-wheeler accident which will cause their 6'6" linemen to miss the rest of the season due to a broken leg. The "hits" just keep on rolling for GCHS.
  3. Something must have happened between 2004 at GCHS and now for these seniors because they were undefeated as freshmen. This included a victory over Russell's freshmen. A friend of mine told me that the losses of Dalton Terry (to Raceland) and Darrell Mahan (to Ashland -- yet attempting a return to GCHS football) has set them back. I guess Greenup County doesn't have the horses to compete with Russell!
  4. Personally, I believe that Russell wins this one in the 1st quarter and walks away with it during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters. Here is why. GCHS doesn't come prepared to play in the 1st quarter. They drop too many balls in space and their line is too slow for the faster and stronger Red Devils. Besides that, GCHS has never won at Russell! Why would it happen now? Russell 34 GCHS 14
  5. vs Seriously though -- how do you see this game playing out? What are your predictions? (By the way, I couldn't find a picture of Greenup County Football on the internet.)
  6. Russell should have no problem with the Musketeers, then.
  7. No more predictions??? Come on, stick your neck out.
  8. Place the order of finish for the regular season for each district in NE KY. Class 1A - District 5 - Fairview, Lexington Christian, Nicholas County, Paris, Raceland Class 3A - District 7 - East Carter, Lewis County, Mason County, Russell, West Carter Class 4A - District 8 - Boyd County, Greenup County, Lawrence County, Rowan County Class 5A - District 6 - Ashland Blazer, Bryan Station, Johnson Central, Montgomery County, Woodford County
  9. It depends on your community's commitment to the project whether it be through donations or financing. Here is an article concerning Coal Grove, OH's field. They are across the Ohio River from Ashland. http://www.fieldturf.com/news.cfm?newsID=1482 Coal Grove football field gets makeover Jun 7, 2007 The Herald-Dispatch by Travis Hubbard COAL GROVE, Ohio -- The Coal Grove Hornets are the third Lawrence County football team in three years to install synthetic grass as their permanent playing surface. "It gives our kids a higher self-esteem. They're already as excited as can be," said Coal Grove atheltic director Bryan Mulkey. "We've had a nice couple years, and I hope this just adds to that. "I think it's one of the best things to happen to the Coal Grove district." Rock Hill was the first Lawrence County high school to install artificial grass at its new stadium two years ago, and South Point's new football stadium was completed and will open this fall with FieldTurf. Coal Grove completed the installation of FieldTurf at Patterson Field earlier this month at a cost of about $700,000, according to Dawson-Bryant Schools superintendent James Payne. "We did our homework and chose the turf that was right for our situation and one that would fit our finances," Payne said. Payne said he and school board members visited no less than six other facilities -- Oak Hill, Jackson, Coonskin Park in West Virginia, Marshall (University), Kings High School near Cincinnati -- as well as the facilities at Rock Hill and South Point. "We've known about the product for about two or three years, but we weren't able to do anything about it until serious donations came in," Payne said. Artificial turf is a growing trend. With the cost declining from more than $1 million as recently as five years ago when Ripley High School began its campaign for artificial turf, more schools are opting for the cost effectiveness of synthetic grass. Payne said FieldTurf had about 500 installations nationwide scheduled for this summer. Payne did not have exact numbers, but he said the reduction in man hours and maintenance costs is dramatic. Fake grass doesn't need mowed or watered, seeds and fertilizer do not need bought or sowed and end lines don't need painted. Plus, the field can be played on during wet or dry conditions without worry of damage. "Not only is it cost-effective, but they've done studies that say it's safer than natural grass and certainly safer than the old carpet they used to use," said Payne, who himself had two knee surgeries he attributed to playing football on AstroTurf. FieldTurf is the same surface used at Marshall's Joan C. Edwards Stadium. It has woven artificial grass that more closely resembles real-life grass instead of the carpet-like texture of AstroTurf. Plus, FieldTurf has a rubberized base while AstroTurf essentially laid on concrete. FieldTurf must be groomed occasionally, and the groomer was provided in the purchase, but the costs of maintenance are significantly less. "It's going to allow our maintenance staff to work in other capacities," Payne said. The turf comes with an 8-year warranty, but Payne believes Coal Grove will get at least 15 or 20 years of use out of its new turf because of limited use it will get. Coal Grove doesn't have soccer teams and it won't be used for baseball or softball. But it will get plenty of use, just not high-impact use other than football. The field will be used by football teams of all ages in the district, band, discus throw for track and field, cheerleading, physical education classes for the junior high and high schools and for baseball and softball practices when their fields get too wet. FieldTurf drains water much more productively than natural surfaces. That was a key motivating factor for Coal Grove because land is limited in the school district. So, when it rained teams could not practice on the football field and competed for time. Now, there's no worries about damaging the field. But it required a major financial commitment from the community. The school board did not ask for additional tax dollars. Instead, the community made donations and staff made payroll deduction contributions to the project. "It's a big commitment from the community and the administration," Coal Grove football coach Dave Lucas said. "It's becoming more and more popular because it's becoming more and more economical, but it still requires that initial commitment by the community." With the costs of artificial grass declining and the costs of long-term natural grass maintenance increasing, will we see the day that every school has FieldTurf? "I think it's a personal choice," Payne said. "It was right for us because of the limited land space. But any school that considers it would have to have the same support from their community and donations to offset the cost."
  10. I found this cost analysis from Field Turf... http://www.fieldturf.com/superbowl/downloads/10%20Year%20Cost%20Analysis.pdf
  11. Thanks for the clarification. Basically, teams should play with 6 DB's and have 5 in the box against Greenup. Is that how you read the defensive alignment against this offense?
  12. Somebody has to have another pre-season Top 10 out there.
  13. Does Greenup have no running attack?
  14. I noticed that there was a previous thread on Greenup County, but now it is not available. I follow most of the teams in NE KY so I am interested to learn more about Greenup County's new offense. I saw the article in the Daily Independent (link attached) recently. http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_212000212.html What are the expectations for the Musketeers this season? How will they fare in their opening game against Russell?
  15. I agree with you that my prognostications for Ashland and Russell might seem a bit optimistic, but that's the fun of it all. I believe that my predictions will be close unless a team unexpectedly surprises others with a string of victories such as Boyd County or Lawrence County in their district play and beyond. New offenses, attitudes, coaches, etc. seem to do that.
  16. Thanks for the information. I noticed that you have 6 two-way starters projected for Russell this season: Tyler Jones David Bailey Drew Abrams Mike Dillon Adam Foster Evan Boyd Good luck in 2007. As stated in another thread, I predicted that Russell would go 10-0.
  17. My Top 10: 1.) Johnson Central (9-1) 2.) Russell (10-0) 3.) Ashland (8-2) 4.) Mason County (8-2) 5.) Raceland (7-3) 6.) Lawrence County (7-3) 7.) Boyd County (6-4) 8.) East Carter (6-4) 9.) Greenup County (5-5) 10.) Rowan County (4-6)
  18. I was searching through Russell's roster from 2006, but I can't make out who will play what position in 2007. Can anybody provide a projection for Russell's starting lineup in 2007?
  19. Regardless of class size, what would be your Pre-Season Top 10 in NE Kentucky? How do you believe your Top 10 will compare to Ashland Daily Independent's Top 10 later in the season? Post your predictions for your Top 10 teams' records for 2007.
