  1. The following two coaches will not make the radar screen throughout the state, but should receive Honorable Mention for Coach of the Year: Mike Sammons (Greenup County): Turned a 1-6 team into Playoff District Champions in 4A District 8 and a 5-8 record. Finished the season 4-2 with the two losses coming to top ranked Mason County in 3A and Harrison County in 4A. Both losses were by a point, Mason County (34-33 in OT) by failing the 2-point conversion and a gutsy performance on the road at Harrison County in the Regional Finals, 31-30. Lee Evans (Boyd County): Turned an 0-6 team into the Regular Season District Champions in 4A District 8 and a 5-7 record. Finished the season 5-1 with the only loss coming in the District Finals against Greenup County. Coach Evans showed tremendous class following the last second loss to Greenup County, 27-26. The game apparently was over with a Boyd County victory when the clock showed 0:00; however, the ball had been spiked by Greenup County with half of a second left leaving one more play. Coach Evans indicated afterwards that he did see time remaining following that play.
  2. Mike Scott from Greenup County played D-1 at Wake Forest and UK, but did not play in the NBA. There was a Final Four appearance with him in 1984.
  3. Marilyn Mitchell @ KHSAA is the person handling the selling of championship games. Each DVD costs $19.95 plus $4.00 for shipping/handling for each game.
  4. Adkins steps up late to help sink Russell, 85-82 By MELINDA ROBINSON — The Independent Russell — Junior Ryan Adkins knocked down eight consecutive free throws in the final minute of Friday’s game to help Greenup County sink Russell 85-82 at Marvin Meredith Gymnasium. “Fortunately, Ryan stepped to the line and finished the game for us,” Greenup County coach Chad Leach said after the Musketeers notched their first win of the young season. Adkins was 12-of-14 from the line for the night and 4-of-6 from the field to lead the Musketeers with 21 points in the district contest. Greenup County led 60-57 heading into the fourth quarter, but a 15-4 run quickly stretched the Musketeers lead to 13 with just over four minutes to go. However, Russell began to fight back, scoring nine unanswered points to come within three, 75-72, with 2:05 remaining. “Our kids were just patient,” Russell coach Steve Dodd said of the run. “They started defending a little bit better and showed some poise.” Link to rest of the story http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_342003056.html
