Whitley did move the ball well against Lynn Camp and was inside the Red Zone a few times but I remember they did things to hurt themselves when they were there, or the good play of Lynn Camp stopped them. As for losing players Whitley suffer after the loss of Lebaninon, but the offense still was productive just not in the Red Zone. If we look at total yardage gained for a season this was probably one of their more productive years against stiffer competition than faced in the past! Whitley was better than they were a year ago, although record does not indicate. With alot of players returning with experience look for them to be even better this year.

The offense is the same as he had at Williamsburg, except it has been adjusted to fit Whitley personnell. The game that Whitley played against Lynn Camp was their worst all year. That being said I believe Lynn Camp on that night could have beat anybody, they were well prepared, and ready to play and a better football team. In my opinion one of the best teams in Single A. I believe if Joe does not get hurt they at least make it to the Semis, and if you get that far who knows what could happen.

Some may look at the roster and decide S.E. Ky was not represented well. Then talk to the their local coaches. I believe S.E. Ky was represented well in number and by play. In the end it is about the players, they were treated great and had a great experience.

Was great game, and great football atmoshpere. Cant wait until next year, the people who put this on for the 1st time should be proud. I can only see this getting better. It was a first class event for a small town and rural area, but would have been considered that anywhere.

Coach Lucas is great guy and coach. Was he not the coach, and why did he get out? What was the scenario?

Grant jumped out to a 8-0 lead and held a 5-8 point lead througout the game. Owen closed the gap and tied it with about two minutes left but Grant pulled away witha couple of nice offensive possessions and good defense. Grant County made some big shots, and was able to run some clock late. Good win for the new Head Coach Darrell Guffey. Congrats to the Braves!!!

I may be the only person outside of Perry County to see the game this way..... I think Perrry is going to win. I think it will be close but all the factors are there for Whitley to lose this game. I think that the week off hurt them, I bet that they did not practice hard, more than likely taking it easy to get their health back and coasting through practices. I think they will be distracted by the long road trip and not focused and not ready to play. I think that they may be happy with being 2-2, after the year that they had last year, I could see how some of those kids would be happy not be getting their ears beat in every week. And that is why I see a Perry Victory on Friday.

How is the injury situation for both teams, is Whitley healthy? How about PCC?

I assure you that fact has not gone un-noticed. However, they still have some games to play so :sssh: crowning them might be a bit premature.

I really dont know what game some of you watching. Whitley took control of the game the 2nd 1/2 and was trying to sub out until their Coach kept the 1st team in and on-side kicked and recovered. Black decided to go back to the 1st team Defense and the results were the same for the Jags, O points. Even after that Black went with his Freshmen Offense the last 5 minutes of the game to keep the score down. He could have kept the 1st team in and added at least 10 more points. Whitley was the one who faced the most adversity and overcame it, while I thought the Jags lost composure and focus. We can blame it on officiating all you want, but both sides were hindered by it. Whitley found a way to overcome it. I also thought Whitley surprised North with speed and quickness. Some one also mentioned how North mixed it up in the game, I believe they had 1 rushing attempt in the 2nd 1/2 not hard to figure out.

Whitley goes on the road and in the rain to win 38-6. Whitley dominated with their JV offense scoring two touchdowns and their freshmen offense scoring two TDs in the first half.

I believe the Colonels to be kind of young. I know a lot of the names mentioned are young kids. Not many seniors at all. How many did we lose, and how many do we have coming back?

I agree with Apex, and dont believe he was crying. I know 2 players he was alluding. Both were fine young men and would have been tremendous assets to the Colonels. I dont care what team you are if you lose that caliber a player, you will suffer and on the opposite wherever they decide to play that team would only benefit. As was the case. Those 2 players I believe he was talking about had great careers at a school north of Whitley County H.S.. Noble is right also. These two schools will always compete at everything, there is a rivalry. Only being a couple of miles apart, kids know one another, and pride factor always plays a part when these 2 compete in anything. The one that wins, retains bragging rights. In the end should Whitley beat the Burg most of the time? Probably. Jackets have been one of the premier passing teams in the state, and for the Colonels to beat them at their own game, they deserve a pat on the back. We can point out the weaknesses of the Jackets, but bottom line the Colonels did not light up the scoreboard last year and to see them have some success to build upon is great. The Colonel fans might be the only ones doing it, but if the Burg won the shoe would have been on the other foot. For someone to get on here and belittle what some kids have accomplished is silly. In the end, it is all about the kids anyway. This entire thread was what do the Colonels need to do to improve on last years season, they needed to become more efficient at throwing the ball. It sounds like they have done that. What other areas have they improved upon, and what do they need to work still?

There are a number of schools that fall into those categories, Mr. Fundamental. There are a number of schools that will benefit from the new alignment. The ones in Whitleys district basically benefit by not having to go through Bell and Rock to win their district. Is the district easier than the one they were playing in ; Madison Central, GRC, Lincoln and Montgomery have been replaced by Clay, Perry Cent., Letcher Cent. and No. Laurel. I think it will be but in no way will it be a cake walk for any of the teams in the new district. I believe Clay has to be the front runner, not knowing much about the rest of the teams. Whitley will be young, almost a JV team as many young kids that they are going to be playing. Hopefully the tough non-district schedule will get them into the play-offs, prepare them for the post season. The pass scrimmage Kentucky was a bigger deal to the Burg, than it was to Whitley, but all the same Whitley has the bragging rights in Williamsburg.:dancingpa

How many points does the D get for a stop and interception? I talked to some players for the Colonels and they seem to be much more comfortable with the offense this year. I hear they are becoming so good they dont even need those wristbands anymore.

I know they do keep score at the UK passing camp. It is good to hear the Colonels beat the Jackets at their own game. Will the Moses kid be able to fill the shoes of Frazier and Greer? Did the Colonels look good throwing the ball? What does the "hodgepodge" offense have in it? So many questions.

Lebanion played WR, and got hurt about mid-season. I dont believe he played the rest of the year.

What a shame about McCumbers if he does not play. Who will be the QB? There also seems to be alot of speculation about what type of offense that Black is going to run this year. Campbell ran the Wing T for years.

Saw the Jones kid at the Williamsburg/Whitley baseball game. He hit a double and got there very fast, stole third, and scored on a infield grounder. He is kind of fast, looked good, I guess he will be ready to suit up.

Mercer will be good, they have a great foundation to start the new alignment. I got to see the Titans last year, they have some very good talent.

Whitley has plenty of young talent coming up. Will be starting only 2-3 seniors on offense. The defense will be a little older but not much, with little experience. I agree w/ Cast and Tug, turnovers were a huge factor for the Colonels last year. Giving up big plays in crucial situations was also a factor. I see the Wt. Room has been good for the team, with the first place finish at Lynn Camp. What about Cody Jones and Shawn Baird, have they recovered from their injuries, will they be at full strength?
