  1. Omg, this post is no good unless someone mentions Tim Mudd from E-town. Another good coach is Mark Evans at Mercy. What Al Northington has done at Iroquois can't be overlooked. He built that program from ground up, it was almost disbanded several years ago.
  2. Jehlik- 6'3" Colliver- 6'0" Prewitt- 5'11" Webb- 5'10" That's probably a more accurate assessment of the size of the girls along the frontline for Mont. Co. this year. A very long team team this year but can still get up and down the floor. Jehlik can handle the ball out on the floor too!
  3. You've got to be kidding me on the Top 10 players list too! Mary Jehlik is no worse than a Top 3 talent returning in the Region. Nothing against the rest but here are the Top players in the 10th region returning this year. Mackenzie Lee- Mont. Co. Jewel Rogers- GRC Mary Jehlik- Mont. Co. Persia Rogers- GRC Kayla Webb- Mont. Co. Katie Kitchen- Campbell Co. Emily Hinkson- Paris Lauren Tibbs- Scott High Elizabeth Prewitt- Mont. Co. Keller Menke- Mason Co. You have to base a few things on your decision. Level of competition played against and how you project them beyond high school. Nothing against those players that appeared on the CP list and not mine, but if you ever go to the region tournament and see how players react on the big stage than it's hard to compare. Bracken Co., St. Pat., etc. don't play enough high caliber opponents to fairly judge players. A player can avg. 12-15 pts. against marginal competion and another can avg. 8-10 pts. for a team like Montgomery Co. does and you are talking about day and night difference. Kayla Webb may be the most talented all around athlete in the region yet didn't make the top 10 and I believe she avg. around 10pts. and 6-7 rebounds a game. C'mon CP find a more reliable way of providing coverage. Good thing I don't subscribe to that mess. I prefer going and watching the games and making my assessments. Good luck to another banner year in the 10th. Hope to see you all in gyms this winter. Again, do't take offensive to my top 10, it's my personal list and not meant to offend, just meant to be fair to players that play against tougher competion.
  4. I agree with that FB, also, the staff was really helpful I thought! The new gym is great but the old is in fabulous shape as well. I know schools that their main gym is not as good as that place seemed. Haha!:ylsuper:
  5. Hospitality always a plus with me! Haha!
  6. Hey there, I found out today the names of the participating teams in the Mont. Co. tournament next season. I think I got this right, I tried to write them down as I was being told so here it goes: Mont. Co. Scott Co. Calloway Co. Lafayette Madisonville N. Hopkins N. Laurel Pulaski Southwestern Mercy Prep out of Pennslyvania Pretty good field with Scott Co., Mont. Co., Pulaski (SW) they won the AAU tourney
  7. The Berea Tourney was one of the ones I used to love, 1) because of the New Seabury Center and 2) because it used to have the best teams, coaches and players. It has died off pretty much in recent years in those aspects. The Lady of the South is excellent too, with usually 3 or 4 of the best teams in the state participating. The Lex Cath. tourney I believe most would agree has the most in top teams, talent and coaching and visibility. The Owensboro tourney is good but a bit cumbersome with all the travel from gym to gym. I used to enjoy days of the Ashland Kitten Inv. but it too has lost it's glamour. It seems another big problem with some of these tournaments is that they are too big. You don't get to see all of the teams because their is so much going on. I've heard coaches complain about that at times and players don't get to enjoy the experience nor do the parents. I was fortunate enough to be able to check out a couple of smaller tournaments this past season and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I saw 2 days of the tournament in Mont. Co. and it was well organized and had an great field, I believe 4 of the 8 teams where in the Sweet 16. You can't ask for nothing better than that and I got to see all the games that I wanted. What a concept. Invite great teams and allow us junkies to get to see them play. Kudos to the folks that put that on. Are there any more small tournaments to go and see during that time that have good matchups usually? :thumb:
  8. I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on who puts on the best holiday season tournament and why. There are many out there; and I've been to a lot of them over the years. What's everyone's thoughts? Give me your rankings and why. I just want to know about the ones during the holiday season, around Christmas, through the first couple of weeks in January.
  9. Superior speed and athleticism ruled last night. A great game to watch if you were for Bluegrass Girls! Maybe the best top to bottom team we've seen in some time. Great job by the selection committee. The coaching staff did great work with preparing the team and keeping players fresh. Indiana will have its work cut out trying to beat this team in the Gardens tomorrow. The ability to break down off the dribble and get layups or open shots causes problems for the Hoosier ladies! Keep up the good work Kentucky gals!:dancingpa
  10. Hey, everyone near Mt. Sterling, come out on Wednesday to send the Ky. All stars off with a big bang as they have their last scrimmage before the first Game on Friday in ndy. The scrimmage will be at the MCHS Arena on the Montgomery Co. Campus @ 7:00 pm, admission $5 to go towards the Ky. Lions Eye charity. A good cause, some good basketball and a great chance to show are true basketball spirit to these young ladies that will represent the Bluegrass this weekend.:dancingpa
  11. Congrats to Maggie Prewitt, the ultimate team player! Great steal for Centre not only as a player but as a student and more importantly as a person. Boy, did Morehead and Eastern really fall asleep at the wheel on not getting this young lady to help their programs? I bet they didn't send one piece of mail her way, what a big fumble by both schools if that is the case!:thumb:
  12. OMG, Mackenzie Lee, from Montgomery Co. isn't on the list anywhere? They should shred the list if she is not one the top players in the state, to not mention her as an honorable mention is making a mockery of having such list!
  13. Congrats to all the girls who made the team and to those that got the opportunity to try out. Best wishes to Maggie Prewitt, maybe one of the most underrated players of all times, a proven winner! Sorry to hear about the injuries to Novosel and Chambers two players that would have been great to have to go against an always tough Hoosier squad.
  14. What a very classless move by Madison Central. Coach Gandolfo did more for the program even when he wasn't a coach for that program and when he got his chance at the helm he turned the program around to be a contender again. I pose these questions to the Administrators involved with this "mistake". 1) Don't you want your coaches to have integrity? 2) Don't you want your coaches to teach values? 3) Don't you want your coaches to win games ultimately? If you answered yes to those three question, what heck are you doing firing the only person that has given you that in his 3 years at the helm? :flame:
  15. I agree, Chambers has been huge for her team late in ballgames, just as she was today, but Prewitt has done the same for her team as well going all the way back to her Freshman year. In fact she hit the game winner in the Regional final last year in the closing seconds. Both are great players, just asking why many pick Chambers as the overwhelming choice. You couldn't be mad at either selection. I'd have the same thoughts if people were saying hands down that Prewitt was the favorite, but you don't seem to get that on any of the postings. I wouldn't be surprised if the 10th Region didn't have 2 players on this years KY/IN All-stars team.
  16. You're too caught up in stats, Play by Play. Look at the schedules that the two teams played during the season and then make that assesment. You have to compare apples to apples. Just looking at stats alone won't make for a good comparison.
  17. Play by Play, What makes you say that Mason Co. has the best two players? I know it's a matter of opinion, but you're gonna have to back that one up! All four players were first team all region, and yeah, the two from Montgomery don't have the career point numbers of those of Mason Co. but you gonna have to come with more than the point numbers to say they are the best. I'll agree with your opinion if you can persuade me but for now I'll take the Montgomery Co. two over the Mason Co. two.
  18. I have to agree with Coach Kelsch. I think it's the popular choice to say that Chambers is hands down the pick, but you have to look at the full picture. It's just like the NFL combines, you can't measure the player, by vertical, speed and quickness, you have to take it all into consideration. Maybe it's the way the player is utilized that makes the difference in the case of these two players. Look at what a fabulous player Courtney Danis was for Montgomery Co and she didn't play her natural position and now she is playing her natural position in College and is even better than she was in high school. For the sake of the team both Danis and Chambers played down inside but both are obviously shooting guards or small forwards at the next level. Enough of my soap box but I just feel like Prewitt gets short changed in these conversations because of her supporting cast or because she doesn't look like your typical athlete. Lord knows I would never diminish Chambers career accomplishments.
  19. Wow! I must agree that Chambers is the better gifted athlete and may have the greater potential for success at the major college level but to say she is the better shooter, defender and means less to her team than Chambers does hers is a pretty bold statement. I'd say the last two years Prewitt has probably avg. close to 3 steals per game which is huge. Prewitt plays on the deeper of the two teams and plays on an overall more unselfish team but you can't diminish what she has meant to their success. I would've probably voted two years ago that Chambers hands down was the better player but because of the number of times in big games Prewitt has shown her overall worth and affect on the team it would be hard to put her below Chambers. If the voting is fair you would have to give a Co-POY and leave it at that. Both players are phenoms and affect the games in different ways. IMO, Chambers didn't touch the ball enough today, especially in the first half, Prewitt did in her game and affected the game even when she wasn't scoring!
  20. For the sake of arguement, why would anyone not pick Maggie Prewitt?
  21. That's a ridiculous thought, you move the Mason Co. student section, how hard is that? That's what Montgomery Co. did the other night. Pendleton Co. student section was behind their teams bench on the "Home" side. That just shows you that Mason Co. officials brainwashed everyone to make them think that was a big problem. :sssh:
  22. That's not a valid reason, that's an excuse. The regional tournament is neutral and should be treated as such, even when you are the host school. Mason Co. has bucked the notion of changing sides and benches to satisfy their own comfort level. Mason Co. has down a great job in hosting the event in the past and will do so in the future, but they haven't always done things the "right" way. I've enjoyed the tournament thus far this year and I'm sure I will in the future, because I for one like the excitement of the event and the players and coaches of the games. :argue:
  23. How many times have you seen at Mason Co. that the Royals ever sat on the visiting bench or their crowd sat on the visiting side of the gym when the tournament was held at the Fieldhouse? Montgomery Co. was the visiting team tonight and they didn't sit on their "traditional" home bench as in the regular season and their crowd sat on what was designated as the visiting side of the gym. I can't remember how many times in years past I've heard Mason Co. fans complain about fans sitting in "their" seats. Thank God that Montgomery Co. is treating the tournament as if it is being held at a neutral site even though it is their home court. You still have to play the games but it just seems like Mason Co. loves being catered too. I think Mr. Hester is a great person but I've even heard him say in years past, our fans are so accustomed to seating on the home side? What's that all about? You're hosting a neutral tournament and if you are the visiting team on the scoreboard you need to sit on the visiting bench and your fans need to sit on the visiting side, bottom line. Maybe Mason Co. can take some notes for future tournaments. Oh and about the difference in parking, the one advantage at Mason Co. is that you can get a 10pc. chicken meal at Lee's to eat on your long walk to the gym from your parking space. Haha!
  24. Pendleton Co. only scored 6 pts. in the 2nd half, Wow!
