Russell's Coach Dodd Resigns?
Lil' Devil Dad replied to rfcinky's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I just wanted to clarify....I meant nothing ill towards Coach Parsley nor his ability to motivate. I was just stating facts - pastor doesn't equal best person for any job and whoever coaches next needs to be motivating, as is the case for Marv League to NBA! I also wanted to make clear that I was not saying that Coach Kidwell and staff haven't done a good job! I personally would love it if he stayed with the girls!!! Once again I was just stating the facts...our numbers are down from top to bottom, and basketball is taking the back seat to softball, soccer, and dance. -

Not so sure being a pastor makes you the best person duck! Whoever gets it needs to be motivating. Girls Basketball at Russell is slowly but surely fading! -

Kidwell deserves this job if he wants it. However, at this point, it's hard to say what's going on. The job has yet to be posted. Wonder if they've already told him the job is his, which is why they are taking their time posting? Cassity was Kidwell's assistant the first couple of years, however he hasn't been on the sideline lately. I think he knows the girls well though, and he may be interested if Merle goes to the boys! -

Who was tourney MVP?? Had to be Gibbs, even if she didn't play a second in the final!! -

I have really enjoyed watching these young ladies at the state tourney over the last 4 years. I have never seen a team be so nice on the floor, and yet competitive, at the same time. -

UGH! Now I get to hear the same guy I've heard for the last 3 years tell his daughter or neice or something to shoot the ball every time she touches it in Diddle;) -

UGH!!! I was looking forward to seeing this team at Diddle again this year! Congrats to Butler! So much for the "You can't beat a team three times in one year" saying. -
Rowan County 68 Morgan County 51
Lil' Devil Dad replied to Dirt's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
The difference in the game was the young lady (Kissinger) who came in off of Rowan's bench and dropped 20 with some timely 3-point shooting Eagle played well, however she forced some threes of her own when she was being so effective with the drive. Morgan will be a contender next year as well!!! -
Ashland 63 Raceland 35

Vanderhoof only had 6 points. Looked to me like conditioning was a factor! Keeton led Raceland with 18. Strait had about the same for Ashland! -
16th Region Tournament Attendance
Lil' Devil Dad replied to Big Slick's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I was always a big fan of having the region at Morehead until I went to a couple of 15th region games before the Expo Center. They alternated gyms much like we do district, and the atmosphere was simply awesome!!! With Boyd and Greenup seating close to 5,000, why not alternate it in the 16th? -

I can attest to that...Row ZZ seat, nevermind, I didn't have a seat! Got in on a pass and sat in the aisle;) -
Officials Switching at Region Games
Lil' Devil Dad replied to crazy8s's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
I agree 85...we do indeed have some fine officials in the 16th. I also like switching during regional play for many reasons. One major reason is simply the amount of weight lifted off the shoulders of these refs. In the past, I have felt horrible for these guys/gals that had to call a game with two of their good friends standing on opposite ends of the sideline. It's also hard on a ref when he is one of the top in the region, but is constantly accused of helping his buddy out. I have witnessed this very thing, resulting in the coach getting less calls because the ref is afraid of being accused of cheating or favoring. -

Golly Hoops Gal and Oldtimer, he was just stating his opinion about how the game was as a whole. If you know GO, you know that he would never single out teams and speak negatively about them. The game was what it was...UGLY at best. That being said, this is how both teams play (physical, grab, hold, steal), and to be honest, when Rowan plays 90% of the region it's going to be an ugly game...they're at a different level than other teams in our region and will have a cake walk the rest of the way to Diddle! (the jinx is on ) -
I've watched this kid play ball since she was 9 years old, both softball and basketball, and have watched most of what's considered as some of the best teams to come through Russell (recent history anyway). IN GENERAL, she has performed well in high pressure situations, in both bball and softball!!! She has hit many important shots, especially free throws in bball, won state tournaments (on the mound), and came up with numerous big time hits.
