Some great posts on this thread! In our region, many underclassmen have taken playing time from juniors and seniors. However, those seniors and juniors did play other sports, and they didn't work on their game unless it was bball season. As a parent of a middle school player right now, I let my girl know that it's all about competition and working hard. If she chooses not to work hard on her individual game (IN THE OFF SEASON TOO!) she has no right to complain if when she's a senior an underclassmen takes her spot. Sure, I wouldn't like it, but at the same time, how could I complain or be surprised!?

Adia Mathies from Iroquois has to be a serious contender for this award. She's the real deal and will without a doubt lead her team back to Diddle, and may win a state title!!

Hoops Gal: Not saying that the officiating had anything to do with the end result in this game, however I looked up at the scoreboard last night in the first half to see that that Russell had 10 fouls to Rowan's seven or eight. With the amount of reaching, handchecking, and pushing Rowan does as they press, I had a hard time believing the Lady Devils fouled more in the first 14 minutes. Ferguson and Sparks were both called for ticky-tack fouls in the first, resulting in 8th graders bringing the ball up against a physical Rowan bunch. It would have been interesting to see if Ferguson and Sparks could have kept it any closer. 44 turnovers in a game is not the refs fault. Not calling hand-checks consistently is!!!

duck: Seen some of Dodd's practices and it's easy to see, he is as fundamental as any coach in the region, however I will have to agree with DARE and say that overall the community is not happy with his tactics or style, this year or any other year!!! When players are looking at the scorer's table after every mistake to see if they are coming out, you've got a problem.

I think this is a great win for these young ladies!!! Few years down the road look out!

Is Romer the head coach?? I thought Cantrell was! Elliott plays so hard, I'd really like to see them get a chance to go to Richmond...however Vanderhoof is much deserving as well...tough game to call. Where will this be played?

East hasn't really beaten any provens and they lost to Ashland and Rowan by a combined 45...they may need to be a little lower, especially with the loss of Sargent. Morgan's recent loss to Elliott has to bring them down a bit as well. Gotta love the way Elliott plays...what a scrappy bunch of girls!!!

Hey Mountain! Need some updates back here in Russell-Flatwoods territory. Can't find any scores anywhere on the web and I only got my team's update 13-0 win over Butler. Who else is looking good down there? From year's past, I really think it will come down to R-F and North Laurel in the finals? Which one is yours by the way?? Does Baldwin still pitch?? We barely beat her last year when she was 11!!! TOUGH kid! Also, how's the 9-10 tourney looking?

3ptshooter - the girls are invited, they are not being drafted. The coaches invite who they want to tryout regardless of the number of no-shows. There wasn't one player out there that didn't get an invite because of these that did, but didn't show up. This is the exact reason for inviting so many.

true most of the time have a friend who coaches at a small school he never played a game in his life, but he's pretty intelligent and does a good job his record last year was 7-20 Not only did he keep his job, they gave him a key to the city!!!
