This is a totally different team without Vanhoose. Just remember, when its crunch time, they won't have Jon to hit the clutch shot. They also won't have him to take it to the next level and score 30 points against the big dogs, either.

I wish I could watch that again, as well. If I remember right, the Magoffin player pulled up for the shot with alot of time remaining. Danny Adams was screaming, "NO NO NO - GREAT SHOT!!!"

That is the story of Magoffin County's basketball history! I lost both the district and region title to good 'ole Paintsville in the mid-90s.

Well, I do think it will be a cakewalk for whoever wins that game. I think that Raceland lost a good player which will hurt them, I don't think Rose Hill can win with their two-player team, I think West Carter has a nice team but would have to play close to perfect to win 3 in a row. Just my opinion. No disrespect intended and I am looking forward to watching the games. I will also pray that everyone shows good sportsmanship and noone is injured - and of course, that the refs don't gang up to beat Rose Hill! That last phrase was a joke or course!!!

The last time I played in the tourney for Magoffin County, we beat Pikeville at the buzzer with a 35 footer. That was 1995.

They got as bad a draw as they could've got - so they got screwed.

Well, Elliott got screwed, but should still be the favorites. I would have to say Ashland vs. Elliott for the trip to Rupp. Russell is most likely hurting without Vanhoose. Ashland better also watch out for Rowan.

I knew somebody was going to get shafted, and unfortunately is my hometown team - the Lady Vikings. The championship game is in the first round, IMO.

I think you have your Devil's glasses on. I feel bad for Vanhoose, but Russell is hurting in the region tourney without him. I do think he would be considered one of Russell's top all-time players, considering that he is their all-time leading scorer and also since he signed a D1 scholarship.

I think there are 4-5 teams that have the talent to actually win the tournament. I will say that Elliott is probably the favorite at this point, but Ashland and Russell have the talent to win, as well. Boyd and Rowan would need some luck and a perfect draw, but they can't be discarded.

Huge win. I may make the trip "home" this weekend to congratulate them.

FINALLY! Magoffin finally gets over the hump against their biggest rivals. This makes me feel a little better about losing the district and regional championships to Paintsville when I was a senior.

Good comparison. The coach may be a little different than on Hoosiers, but still...

I hope that mighty Rose Hill doesn't draw Russell in round 1!!!

Ok, here's the thing - Russell may very well play Rowan or Rose Hill in the first round of the regional now. Tough break.

Wow, this sets up a possible Russell vs. Rowan or Rose Hill first round region game. That would be nice for the rest of the region!
