  1. So you turn your team into a scout team on Friday night? Wow! That's wrong for so many reasons. Also flexbone isn't something you learn to run in a week worth a crap. How good of a look could you even give a team?
  2. How in the world do you go from a spread to flexbone in a week? Sorry but that's just stupid
  3. People in KY get ticked off now with the way things are. Imagine BGP if a 1 and 2 seed had to meet in the first round while a 3 draws a 6 all due to ping pong balls. People always complain about KY's system (I played when there were only 4 classes and the complaints today would of been true then too in many ways) and I don't think they have looked at other states. Here are a few examples of other states explained by coaches from those states. Louisiana is different this year.....all private/charter type/magnet schools make the playoffs in 4 divisions and public schools play in classifications and qualify for the playoffs as district winner or as wild cards by power points....top 32 make the playoffs in 5 classifications. In kansas we currently have 5 classes of 11 man football and 2 classes of 8 man football. The 4 biggest classes play 9 regular season games with the last 3 games being district games. The top 2 teams from each district advance. District winners play runner ups in round one. Class 3A and 4A play their final regular season game on a Thursday, round one on the next Tuesday, and round two on Saturday. 3 games in 10 days. 6A, 5A, and 2A don't have the Tuesday game since there aren't as many teams. 2A plays in 5 or 6 team districts. Top two teams advance. The two classifications of 8 man play in 6 or 7 team districts with the top two teams advancing. Illinois 9 Game schedule and at the end of regular season the top 256 teams (basically everyone with a winning record) are placed into 8, 32 team brackets based on school enrollment. So we have 8 state champions. SC 4 classifications based on 135 ADM, redistributed every 2 years (200ish schools that play football) AAAA splits into 2 divisions with a 4 round 16 teams tourney. Points system determines what the seeds are #1-16 for each division. Also your region finish determines where you are seeded. 11 games are in the regular season. Also, if you count a team from a lower classification, you have to sometimes wait and see how that team does in the first round of the playoffs, since A, AA, and AAA only play 10 regular season games. Confused yet? Well determining which division you qualify for is not based on the 135 ADM count that put you into the AAAA classification, but rather the current 135 ADM is used to determine whether or not you are DI or DII. (So it is plausible to be in AAAA but have numbers that would put you in AAA.) But don't let that get your knickers in a knot, there are 52 teams placed in the AAAA classification. The only teams guaranteed to be placed in DI are the 16 biggest, and the only teams guaranteed to be placed in DII are the 16 smallest. Therefore there are 20 teams that theoretically could be EITHER DI or DII. Now for those 20 limbo schools the placement between being a top (home 1st round)) seed in DII and a lower (traveling 1st round) could hinge on an upset in a game that you are not not playing in. Or your team even plays against those teams. Or have those teams in your region. Or even play against one of the teams that is playing in the upset game.
  4. You like the ping pong balls? I could see people having fits over that depending on how the draw went
  5. From another site "In Indiana we have 6 classes. We have a very unique set up. Everyone automatically makes the playoffs. Your first round opponent is determined by a draw of ping pong balls, just like the lottery. You are divided into 8 team sectionals (except 5 and 6A which are 4 team sectionals) and that determines your potential draw. We are already two weeks into the playoffs with the sectional championships set for Friday."
  6. Then they must have a real issue with IN. When the KY playoff system is made fun of it's pretty clear how little people know of other states systems. As far as Boone goes the HC didn't forget how to coach. With an offseason and some groundwork put down next year should be interesting.
  7. That's way off in a comparison. He has been in charge of the program for 2 years. They have made a strives. He will continue to make Scott a good program
  8. First thing I want to know is who is throwing the ball to megatron? That is a HUGE factor right there. Deion could take WR out of games at time due to the qb more than the WR. He was a huge bait and jump the route guy. Now he could run with anyone and stay close and some qb just wouldn't risk it. I would like to see some stats of Deion against Irvin, Moss and a few others. I would also be interested to see which QBs had the most success against him.
  9. Scott Co typically starts a little close and then gets rolling.
  10. I didn't find any books but a number of DVDs on the pistol. Heck of a guy to be running things it looks like.
  11. I might thinking of the wrong guy but if it is the guy I'm thinking of I don't believe that was the case. What I heard was that he is from eastern kentucky and moved back home for family reasons. I'm pretty sure his son is a qb and was a darn good one at that.
  12. You're offensive playbook is like The Joy of Cooking. You go to the frig and see what you have and what you can make. Sometimes you can sub out an ingredient but that's the basic concept. You're offense should be flexible enough to adjust along with the fact you have to develop players. In this case there hasn't been enough time to develop players. The next few years is a better litmus test for that. Defense works the same way. A small example is Highlands. When their QB can run you see qb counter trey and draw. When he isn't the best runner it's run with the rbs. When they had Mitchell they ran jet from under center.
  13. Location is a big issue. Grant is 30 min or more from anywhere. So it's tough to get parapros. The coaching spots are there but no one to fill them. That's one upside to NKY is there is a large enough economic base someone can come maybe an hr early or whatever and make practice. In Grant it's not happening. The way budgets are at schools teaching positions are slim. So getting a coach that way it tough. The youth program overall has had a lot of turnover. That is some what the nature of the beast. From what I've heard the youth program right now has some quality coaches. Please do not take that as me saying in the past they have not.
  14. I can't speak for Jaws but I know neither I nor Dawg1 have children in the program. Past Jaws no one has made a statement that Siple should be replaced. Everyone is pretty aware that the program is rebuilding. Well honestly you have to be some where before you can rebuild so it is more of a create type of thing. This is coach Siple's 2nd year as has been stated a number of times in this thread. What the players have went through over the past 4 years has been stated in this thread. There are both offensive and defensive issues that need to be addressed over the offseason and time.
  15. Me bringing up the number of coaches goes back to you saying the offense isn't the problem. My point was unless you have 3 solid coaches you're going to have a very very hard time getting it to work. On the flip side if I'm a double wing team or a wishbone option team I can get by with 2 solid coaches. For the record I'm not saying Grant should run either of those offenses. It is a point that the number of coaches restricts you system wise and how good you can be at said system.
  16. I agree that if you are giving up large amounts of points it is hard. Grant is playing a number of young guys on both sides of the ball. It is also very hard on a defense to know they can't screw up. If they do then they put the game outside their offense's reach. The fact is they are struggling on both sides of the ball for a number of different reasons and in a number of different ways. We are also talking about 15-18 year olds. No matter who coaches them they will make mistakes. For some of these players this is the 4th coaching staff they've had. 3 different offense and 3 different defenses at least. Add in the fact that the last few years have been rough and it is not an ideal recipe for success. They a very good young two classes. They had a very productive off season last year though I wish they kept the speed machine. There are other issues that we'll have to see if those issues change.
  17. I bring it up because you made mention it doesn't matter what type of offense you run. It is my belief that it does matter the number of coaches you have when it relates to the things you try to do on offense. I also believe it effects what you can do on defense. If I'm a 425 team and depending on how I run that 425 the number of position coaches I need and their level of knowledge will vary. If I run a 44 cov 3 I can get by with less. When I asked about coaching I was talking football. Our different point of views could of come from that or just in general different coaching philosophies. Having to get back on the field after 2 minutes is tough on a defense. Just like its tough on an offense if the defense can't get off the field or gives up points. Been on both sides of that one. I've watched many a grant co game and pretty much all of them over the last few years. I've watched a few of them a number of times. My pint of view is not a disgruntled parent in the stands. For the record I don't have a son on the team and in fact I don't have children.
  18. Hellbird: not trying to be a jerk but just a honest question. Do you or have you ever coached? The other question would be how many of Grants games have you watched? You are correct when you can't stop the other team it's an issue. When you can't score it's an issue. My comment about the number of coaches you need is not a knock on the HC. It's a legit issue depending on the system you run. It's a statement about the current staffing limitations. Grant has gone pretty much two platoon with 6 total coaches. That is not easy. Everyone of those 6 better be solid. Now my definition of solid and someone else's might be very different. I have a pretty high standard there.
  19. To run a spread offense you need at least three legit guys that can coach. I have no idea about Grant in that regard but there is no place to hide a coach. In many other offenses you can but not when you line up to spread. There are other spread styles (one back east coast offense as some refer or the old Redskin offense) which can hide a coach. Once again I do not know if this is the issue but it most certainly can be a factor. As Tony Franklin will tell you if you can't beat press then you'll see it every game until you can. In the GCHS games I've watched there hasn't been a ton of press but zone and rally to the ball. I personally believe in throwing fast screans against man and press but that's me. The defense they play is a 35 though they have started to adjust into some even style fronts. What fashion of 35 I don't know. The 35 can be tricky depending on which version you run. There is a difference between talent and skill set. There is a difference between taking advantage of what a player does well and a player not being able to do something because that skill set has not been developed. It takes time, coaching and a player truly wanting to develope those skills for those things to happen. Some coaches will drop certain things from their scheme because the players just don't do those things well.
  20. Grants starting qb and rb are soph. They have two frosh starting in the Ol. I'm sure there are other spots on O and D where soph are starting. The group that played sat I am pretty sure are made up of soph and frosh. Unless starting a different position the varsity starters don't play in those games. That rb you saw is a frosh in his 2nd year of playing football. The qb might have been a jr and if not it was a frosh. The frosh and soph class combined are pretty solid. That's if everyone stays.
  21. I believe there is a parent on staff. Honestly it isn't an issue. If he is on staff he is not his son's position coach. In fact I'm not sure he is in charge of any position. As far as scheme and such goes that is not always clear from the stands. One can tell and teach a player what to do but you can't make them do it. I have no clue if that is or is not the case but if you coach a sport you know it's a factor at times.
  22. In your earlier post you made assumptions about the lower levels which are incorrect. Also any coach would be a little skeptical if dad or whoever helping jr out at home due to it causing conflict in coaching (dad tells the kid to squeeze and coach teaches a spill technique).
