Region 3 1 - Meade County 2 - Southern (Louisville)

Letcher County Central hosted the region 8 duals today. They did a wonderful job all the way around hosting this meet. 9 teams competed today. Ashland, Johnson Central, Lawrence County, Letcher County Central, McCreay Central, Sheldon Clark, Perry County Central, Whitley County and Wayne County. For those of us there today, we got to witness a piece of national wrestling history. Travis Sullivan of Wayne County is now the All-Time national win leader of high school wrestling. The way the announcer said it, he holds the record with 285 career wins. I think he wrestled a few more times after he was given the award. To the best of my memory... here are the way the teams finished. I know the top 4 places are correct. 9 - Lawrence County 8 - Whitley County 7 - Perry County Central 6 - McCreary Central 5 - Letcher County Central 4 - Ashland 3 - Sheldon Clark 2 - Johnson Central 1 - Wayne County Wayne County and Johnson Central will represent region 8 at the State Duals on January 29th. And for those of you wondering the team scores between Johnson Central and Wayne County... It was Wayne County 51 and Johnson Central 28. Hopefully Graybeard can add some more to this thread. ;)

I know that region 8 is having their regional duals this saturday (Jan. 12th) at Letcher County Central.

State Duals will be coming up soon. I believe the 29th of January. Each region sends their top two teams. There are eight regions so that means there will be sixteen teams. Does anybody know the teams that will be there so far?

I agree with you. Two teams dropped wrestling in region 8 this year, Pike Central and Oneida Baptist. If a school wanted to start a wrestling program, I know that most coaches that currently have a team would be more than happy to help them out.

Boyd County doesn't have a wrestling team this year. As for the 15th region.... Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark, Prestonsburg and Lawrence County have wrestling teams. That leaves Paintsville, Magoffin County, Betsy Layne, Allen Central, South Floyd, Pikeville, Belfry, East Ridge, Shelby Valley and Pike Central without a wrestling team. 8 of the those 10 schools are A or AA.

Johnson Central's original colors were supposed to be Red, White and Blue with the mascot of a colonial or a general or something to of that nature. I dont think those colors or mascot were ever used. Not sure where the idea of the golden eagle mascot and the black and gold colors came from.

I agree, that was a great dual. Another good dual was Sheldon Clark vs. Tates Creek.

Johnson Central hosted their annual Holiday Classic Dual Tournament today. Teams attending were Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark, Tates Creek, Harrison County, Perry County Central, Lawrence County and Powell Valley VA. It was a pretty good meet, not sure on the exact place winners, I had to leave early. I do believe that Tates Creek won the team title, that is their 3rd or 4th straight year of winning this meet. If anybody else has the full results, please post them.

The radio said that Lou. Central has all 11 men in the box. 5 on the line of scrimmage and the other 6 are within 2 yds of the down linemen.
