Scribe, Just that at a spot 10 yards past the line of scrimmage is the line to gain. After this line is gained a new series of downs (first down) is awarded at the first dead ball. In the case of a TD, as I see it only, you have achieved a first down and then scored. Maybe we should begin a thread. I will defer to you on this one, this is just how I have always interpreted this rule. Thanks for weighing in, now I am very curious to see if I have been wrong all this time.

Not without talent and coaching. IMHO the few advantages a rising program has over the established ones is the lack of expectations and pressure. But without having been there like the Belfry's, Russells, OCaths, it is purely conjecture on my part. Good luck to all....AA is represented well this year.

Nah.....pressure is mostly self induced. These kids are just having a ball flying around the football field. They don't even know they're supposed to be feeling pressure. Year in and year out contenders feel the pressure of expectations....these guys are just having a blast without the expectations.

Incorrect. Every rushing TD and passing TD is indeed a first down. Mercer only ran 20 some plays; they just scored before 4th down on each series with the exception of one maybe two series.

Defensive dominated game but Mercer wins with its superior offense. Only sure thing is Mercer will NOT put up 50+ on Newport.

Donald "Sunshine" Walker is finally healthy and returning from a 1000+ yd. and 20+ TD season.........so it is a TRIO of hosses:D Ford = 140+yds with 3TD's rushing 1TD receiving Walker = 120+ yds with 2 TD's rushing Jackson = 50+ yds with 1 TD rushing (dealing with a tweaked hammy so being prudent the coaches put him to bed very early)

Mercers starters have played in the 4th quarter only twice this year. I personally worry about this fact when they inevitably face teams with equal talent in the next few weeks...

Almost forgot.....bringing back Coach Shope will DEFINITELY be a major plus. He relates well with his kids, and is a proven winner.

I like Mercer's chances. With a very very deep pitching staff and what should be a very fast and reliable defense they will be tough to handle again. If their hitting is on pace with everything else they are your team to beat.

This is really interesting from the perspective of a tradition rich program like Corbin. If the style of play hasn't really changed much over the past decade or two...it makes you wonder how players have been plugged into positions on the same team from yourself going back 20+ years to your father...:thumb:

Anderson Co. stepped way down in scheduling against talent this year. This explains 6 wins and no playoffs. Not an insult, they just needed to do that this year to get back to winning.
