12th Region Faviorte - 2007

Featured Replies

There will be alot of competiton again this year as there has been in the previous years. Does anyone have any predicitions on who you think will lead the race for the 12th region crown?

My pick is Danville they has 6 returning sr's, 4 of whom are D-1 prospects (Nate Uslin, Matt Grimes, John Raines, Rich Witten)...they return there top 3 starters (Witten, Grimes, Uslin) and have a very experienced lineup. Mr. Baseball candidate, Rich Witten leads the attack, building on from last year's success.

Any thoughts?

Are any of these kids playing Fall Ball? Serious players that aren't playing a fall sport are playing Fall Ball across Kentucky.

Yes. Four of the six seniors are playing fall ball. The other two are currently playing football. They all have been conditioning and throwing all year. Making sure they are in great shape for the season.

That will give them an edge over the kids on other teams not playing Fall Ball.

Fall ball always seems to improve kids come regular seasons. Basic principle for any sport, the more you practice at it, the better you'll be. WHOO HOO! Go DANVILLE :)

Yeah. That's why every college team has a Fall program. Running, throwing and hitting is nice but the college coaches want to see their players do this and compete in live game situations so they will be better prepared to compete in the spring.

Danville, Somerset, and Mercer are the Big Dogs of the 12th, with Boyle, Pulaski, SW, and West Jessamine right behind.

I've heard from a reliable source, that Rich Witten has made a verbal commitment with a school....Anyone know and confirm.

I won't mention the school, unless someone can confirm he did verbal.

Confirmed....by Adopted Admiral

Please find a link below, courtesy of Adopted Admiral regarding Rich Witten of Danville and his College Baseball choice of Coastal Carolina...one of the best nicknames in college, I might add.

Rich Witten chooses Coastal Carolina

What about Somerset? the havent lost anyone except Matt Salmons who Dh'd most of the time...they have 3 seniors returning in Scott Moody, Jordy Molen, and Will Thompson...and a very strong Junior group which many started every game last year for them....now with the experience and region runner up last year i believe the jumpers take it this year

Mercer has to be amoung the favorites. They may have the best all around pitching staff.

Robertson (Junior) is their ace throws in low 90s.

Lewis (Senior) throws 87-89.

Ashford (Junior) throws 86-88.

Carey (Junior) pitched for Burgin in past.

They will need to replace Bottom's in the batting order. They are a veteran ball club. They should be starting 5 or 6 seniors and the rest will be juniors.

I saw college staffs last year that didn't have three guys throwing that hard...

What will Lincoln County bring in 2007?

Things are getting interesting in Lincoln County. Winning 10 games last year was a vast improvement from where the program had been taken to in previous years. I think Lincoln should be competitive with the better teams of the 12th region but I think their downfall will be pitching. From what I have been told their best two pitchers will probably be a Freshman and a sophomore, unless Denson can regain his form of a few years past. They should be solid defensively and hit the ball solid but I am afraid pitching will hurt them in the end. But Masten showed last year with an underdog team in the region that he knows how to pull the strings in the big games, a couple of timely hits against Somerset and they would have played Danville for the Region Championship. Hopes are high for this upcoming season.

Coach Masten is a very good baseball coach. The people and administration at Lincoln need to realize that before a better opportunity is presented to him...
