Highlands grinding the clock.  Glad to see Hosea carrying the ball.  Always going upfield rather than dancing.  Not sure why he was not playing sooner.

Yes they are but game should almost be over. Last 8 plays at least 15 sec left on clock. Guess I shouldn’t complain but why have them if you don’t use correctly.

Huh? What players for Cooper have played varsity, that played freshman tonight? There is only one freshman at Cooper that plays or even dresses varsity. Which that player is freshman Cam O’Hara who is the varsity starting QB, and he doesn’t play or even dress in freshman games. So what exactly are you talking about?

Sorry but it was something I was told that may have happened. I wasn’t there and have no idea. All I was saying is that before any of “Highlands” fans make the excuse of freshman that play up and hence brought them down, it’s not an excuse. I don’t want to hear about it. They would still be freshman whether they played varsity , JV or whatever level, still freshman. So no complaining, you got your butt whooped. And fwiw, unacceptable IMO! There!

The game wasn’t really even as close as the final score. Cooper very easily could have won by a few more scores.  Cooper moved the ball all night and shot themselves in the foot with penalties all night. Plus Cooper had two more big plays of over 60 yards that got inside the 5 brought back because of penalties.

What players for Highlands that play varsity was brought down? Obviously their QB, but I believe I heard he also played QB for their freshman game last year.

    Sorry I was referencing Cooper.

  4. Didn’t see this coming. Cooper sounds like they had 3/4 big plays. Highlands with umpteen turnovers. And please don’t anyone complain about whether kids that are freshman that played varsity were brought down to play this game…..they are still Freshman! Congrats to Copper. Birds need to get back at it and get ready for the Camels next week. Remember #SCIT

When will some of the Bluebird faithful finally admit the talent at Highlands isn't what it once was?

Not sure who you are looking for to admit that, but all the diehards I know will agree that the talent isn't what it once was. Not many programs can sustain the kind of success they had during the glory years. The point from the faithful I know and hang with question the use of the talent that was there. Even people, you know like at the paint store, outside the program, use to ask me "whats up with that"? All I could do is just shake my head.

When you don't have the numbers or talent to support a platoon system, then you adjust. That's where the previous regime failed and refused to play kids on both sides of the ball. There was plenty of talent to not go 3-8 and lose to the teams they lost to. Yeah every once in awhile, you lose a bad game. But they had way too many bad losses.

There you have it I guess if that's what you are looking for!

If Highlands had a 3 point loss to Scott County and a 69-0 win over a lesser foe would the natives still be this restless?

Depends, would that coach have won or at least gotten Highlands past CovCath last year? Or to State Championship? Or won State? So many questions. Main reason the natives were restless with the prior HC is because he failed to see the talent he had and utilize them in a manner that would have helped him IMO and many others, achieve the goals they set out for.

Highlands is in a 8 year drought from being State Champions. Myself and a lot of others knew this was going to take a couple years. There are, shall we say, “distractions” that need to be flushed. And those come at the end of this season. Moving forward, next season, if Highlands is 0-2 again vs teams that they should have competed with and/or beaten, then yeah, natives will be restless. For now, I’m watching this year and expecting nothing but great things from this team. Let’s get #24!!!

Well I was at last night’s game and can say it was entertaining.  Highlands at least showed a lot of heart and desire.  Crone is nice athlete and throws a really nice ball.  Play calling on Highlands side is still big question mark as is the return game.  Before anyone says it, the special teams were Charlie Noon and not result of some great scheme.  Game could have gone either way and still this morning I am trying to figure out if both teams are really good or just average at this point in time.  Guess we shall see.

Spot on JOAT. All the special team play baffles me. Too many minds involved. Delegate it to one coach and let him study and scheme up ways to perfect it. Having Noon and a lone back chasing a kickoff from sideline to sideline doesn’t make sense. Heck he’s already running full speed 30-40 yards before he gets to go vertical. Whatever. Guess just not enough coaches to handle all the different tasks.

@Royal Bluei totally agree. To me this was a Pepto Bismol week and got my stomach settled. You lose by 2 with a QB that became QB1 7 days ago, I say this was as close to a win as you can get without having more points than the other team. Other then cramps we should all be healthy for next week. Poor Camels got something coming for them!

Oh man, I hope Highlands doesn’t take the moral victory route. They just need to get better. And they will. With Benke getting all the snaps and it showed tonight that he is the better QB at this moment. Highlands will be fine. That was a team tonight that came to play, unlike last week. Kudos to the coaching staff and players for not letting last week get to them. Now there can’t be any let down for next week. That needs to be a statement game for more reasons than I can count.

SK is a good team. Of course they go as Crone goes. Very seasoned QB. And SK is huge. For sure won the battle up front leading to all their running.

Good luck to both teams rest of season!

ps….Highlands will use its full 180 min each day next week preparing. Nothing more, nothing less!

  9. Great night for football! GC ran into some traffic traveling and game didn't start till about 7. Very nice crowd for a Freshman game. GC opened the game on O and couldn't do anything. They fumbled and Highlands recovered on the 1/2 yard line but couldn't do anything either. Kinda sloppy in the 1st half by both teams. Like future said, 2nd half was a lot better for both teams.

GC has a very good team and some great players. Emotions got the best of them a few times which in the end may have cost them. I'm sure they will get that under control. Honestly, Highlands should have been up 2/3 td's at the half, just couldn't capitalize of great field position.

Highlands has some serious size on their lines and some hard nosed players. Rio Litmer playing QB this year at the Frosh level will benefit him tremendously moving forward. Excellent running QB with a great arm. More live action pt will only help his passing accuracy. He will for sure be a good one. Was glad to see Spencer Clukey back in action. He did well on the dline. Big target at reciever as well.

I will say though, at times, both teams needed to act like they want to be there. Hard hitting was a no show in this game. Heard the pads clanking only a couple times. It's football boys, not a pillow fight. Many opportunities to make statement tackles that were not taken advantage of.

Highlands, as does GC have some kids that could become some big time football players. Playing and learning at the freshman level will do a lot of these kids good. Time will tell for sure.

Doesn't look to get any easier next week for either team. Highlands is at Cooper and GC is home against Scott Cty. Look to see both teams having great seasons!

  10. I highly doubt Highlands or any school for that matter would change a graduation policy to accommodate a student/athlete or whatever you want to call them. I don’t see how anyone out there is above a schools standards that have been set a long time ago. Sure, if there are several students year after year approaching the school asking for this, then yeah, the school board can look at their policy and see if they want to amend it. I’m glad policy or standards are not being changed for any “one” person. Sadly, there in lies the issue, “one”…..bigger than the program, school or community. Just my opinion.

Highlands Rio Litmer, QB Class of 2026

Highlands Max Merz, OT Class of 2026(6'4"-298lbs)

Highlands Spencer Clukey, TE Class of 2027(6'-4"-210lbs)

Those are some studs already. Its going to be fun watching them develop. From the looks of things in FT, the right people are in place to accomplish that. May still be a year off, still some uh, lets say parents that haven't and "wont" buy in to the new regime. But yeah, these young athletes will be fun to watch. The Clukey boy...has the potential to be big time IMO. Actually all 4 do.

It might not be a full game film, but here are about 10 minutes of highlights from the 2006 playoff game between Covington Catholic and Lexington Catholic. Cov Cath had 720 yards of offense in the game, and Lex Cath had something like 500 yards of offense. CRAZY action in that game.

Here's the way-back BGP thread for the game.

Cool film clips. Wes Caldwell from LexCath is now AD at Highlands
