A question I mentioned in the open job thread:

Coach Sphire is 63 or 64 years old. Logically, he's got to be thinking of retirement somewhere in the near future, right?  Is this a unofficially an interim hire by Highlands?

I was told by someone a little bit ago that Coach Sphire has a lot left in the tank. Confident he knows what he’s talking about. Just sayin!

I wouldn't go that far. It's not February yet. For what it's worth, Eviston wasn't hired as Cov Cath's head coach until 02/09/2015, Haddix was hired at Corbin on 05/02/2014, and Wolfe was hired at Male on 02/22/2010.

Yeah I think we are looking around 2/15/21ish +/- . Have no info but just my opinion

Do you think Highlands names a coach next week or does it take longer than that?

People on here have mentioned by Feb 14 per the AD. But then again he said before by Jan1. I guess he was close to that before. Is Feb 14 a Monday or Tuesday?

Wow!!! #70 pages, who would have thunk. Today is the 21st day of year 21 in the 21st Century...

This stuff doesn’t happen often folks.

You’re not going to believe this Sweep, if you add coach James to the head coaching list, albeit for a day and a half, Highlands next head coach......you guessed it, their 21st head coach

    What you don’t see-

2 district titles at CC. First time in over fifty years I believe.

Hosted and played in more playoff games than any other coach in CC history.

Beat Highlands, first time in how long?

Winningest senior class in CC history.

2018- CC went I believe 8-3 and hasn’t won since. Product of Lickerts program? I would say so.

He definitely had CC going in the right direction. And NCC will head same way I’m sure. Like I said earlier, I think his time will come at Highlands. Little more seasoning and maybe a couple State Championships, he will get his pick. Next time around.

Agreed. But I really don’t think anyone takes what is said on here seriously. It’s the opinions of the same 5-6 guys for the most part. Is it productive, absolutely not. But I think most can recognize that its just the ramblings of some folks with too much time on their hands. Highlands is a great job and the community support is amazing. Any coach who wouldn’t come here because of a single parent who is supposedly a poison pill, is not a coach worth hiring. This applies to any overzealous parent or community member. And they’re everywhere, not just Fort Thomas. You put them in their place, end it, and do your job.

BigE gets it this lovely Sunday.

  7. I like Steve. I think he has done quite well everywhere he has been. And honestly, I figured eventually he would have gotten the Highlands job. If not this time around, then next. He’s only like 40’s right? Plenty of time left to coach at your alma mater. But it is a bad look to go on social media and make comments and hit the “like” button on a retweet of when Highlands BB loses to St Henry. I know heat of the moment but cmon man. #bebetter. Best of luck to Steve up on the hill. I guess what he should be worried more about instead of HHS BB is if any of his coaches apply for assistants for the new Highlands coach.

I’m sure Highlands is doing due diligence so doesn’t get burned again. Why is taking longer to name another coach.

Dot the t’s and crossing their I’s...or wait is it crossing their i’s and dottin their t’s. Something like that. #getitright

The whole thing seems strange. You would've thought when James left, they would've called up the next in line and made the offer. Hoping this ends soon with a decent option remaining.

Wait, is someone saying they haven’t even started the process back up. Whoa! I guess we’ll be waiting a few more weeks.

I more than likely should have expanded on my response. I don’t get this hire in the sense he isn’t going to be around for another 20 years like Beatty. I had assumed (Wrongly) that they would have hired a younger coach to lead the program for the next 20-30 years.

What’s wrong with getting 10 years and another 5/6 State Championships out of him. How many schools wouldn’t take that?

Yes you do. There are a few in the program now that are just unrealistic for their own kids. Those are the cancer. Somehow they think it's okay to call coaches and talk to them about their little Johnny. I'm convinced this is what happened. Coach James was flooded with nonsense that even the seasoned Coach couldn't handle. It's a real shame actually. Most of the parents are really humble but all it takes is One Clown to ruin everything. Someone told me that they think it's the same idiot that poisoned the punch 3 years ago when the former coach was then being ousted only to save the day by starting a resistance. I personally don't know the dude but from what I have heard he's a real charmer.

    That’s interesting

This is where Highlands and CJ met. I was having lunch and rehashing the whole hiring process yesterday at lunch with my brother and I had mentioned that I have been watching video of CJ and his teams bear a similar resemblance of past Highlands’s teams, very disciplined, physical with  can’t lose attitude.

Thx for sharing, makes so much sense now.

Wait.....there was a meeting? Dang Covid!

Renege? Has he accepted? You know something we don't? I can assure that most of the Highlands parents are as frustrated about information being leaked this way before school announced or players are told.  The parents and players have been kept in the dark on process and search. Those that seem to be "in the know" are search committee members and family members/close friends of the search committee.  That's probably who I would congratulate if anything is reneged.

“The players”? Remember there allegedly is a player on the committee.

From the NKY Tribune/Google but the link gives you a 404 Error:

Highlands offers football head coaching position to Franklin County mentor Eddie James. Eddie James, who guided Franklin County to the Class 4A state finals this season, has been offered the job as the football head coach at Highlands High School.11 hours ago

There you have it. BGP official.
