Lincoln actually beat Madison Southern not Central, they did however beat Madison Central last summer. Sophomore Ethan Spurlin had a big game tonight adding to what is already a team with 6 players who could all be the leading scorer on any given night. Spurlin is actually the tallest of the first 7 players that will see considerable time. Lincoln is shaping up to be a team full of guards and small forwards. Here are the first 7's names, class and sizes: Trent Calhoun Sr. 5'-10" Braxton Miller Sr. 5'-10" Chase Overstreet Sr. 6'-0" Ryan Young Jr. 6'-1" Daniel Ralston Jr. 6'-0" Noah Keeton Jr. 6'-2" Ethan Spurlin So. 6'-3" As you can see not much size, but any of the first 7 could be your leading scorer on any given night, with 5 legitimate 3 point threats and 3 kids as athletic as any in the 12th Region, Lincoln is looking to make a serious run at the 12th region crown this year. Time to stop the talking and back it up.

Lincoln County scrimmaged Madison Southern at Tates Creek on Saturday the 18th. They reset the score after each quarter, the best I could keep track I think Lincoln won something like 95-33. This is scary considering they did not have Miller, Calhoun or Young due to football just getting over with. Should be a much better test this Saturday at Rupp against June Buchanan.

I think Lincoln's win/loss will be impacted by the run of the football team. They open up with Wayne, Perry County Central, Mason County, East Jess, West Jess, then go to the Hoopin it up and then on to the 5/3 at Catholic. If Calhoun, Miller and Young are still playing football late in November, I could see them getting out of the gates slowly. I still look for Lincoln to have 20 wins by the end of regular season. A team that is not getting much pub is Wayne County, they have a solid group of Juniors and Rodney Woods has shown to be one of the best coaches in the 12th Region. What do some of Wayne County people think?

Thanks for the info... I did not realize that 4A was not playing 1-2,3-4,5-6,7-8. Does anyone know the reasoning behind the change. I noticed that 1A and 3A have not changed only 2A and 4A.

Lincoln is in District 8 in Region 4 and this is an even numbered year so yes they would host all the way to Papa Johns. Explanation: District 8 champion (Lincoln, Mad. Central, etc. ) plays District 7 champion ( Lafayette, Henry Clay, etc. ), if they are a #1 seed then because 8 is an even number and 2006 is an even number they would host. Region 4 champion plays Region 3 ( Trinity, etc. ) and for the same reason they would host the semifinal. Hope this makes since. Son of Bear, Trinity is the only Louisville Powerhouse in the other region, Lincoln would not play St. X or Male until the final game. I reckon it is set up like that so that if St. X and Trinity make it to the finals they can sell 30 or 40,000 tickets.

I do not think that you can predict where everyone will finish yet. The only guaranteed finish is if Mad. Central beats Lincoln then CoachJr's finish is correct. If Lincoln beats Mad. Central then you have to wait until the end of the night to see how many wins that the teams that everyone beat ends up with. As it stands now if you give each team a point for wins by opponents that they have beaten it is like this. Madison Central 7 points, Montgomery County 7 points, GRC 6 points. But each team could pick up points based on whether the teams that they have beaten win this weekend. With all this said, I do not think you can predict who will play who until after next weekend. I do know that if Lincoln beats Mad. Central, they have the opportunity of hosting the playoffs all the way until Papa John's, that could be a huge advantage.

Things are getting interesting in Lincoln County. Winning 10 games last year was a vast improvement from where the program had been taken to in previous years. I think Lincoln should be competitive with the better teams of the 12th region but I think their downfall will be pitching. From what I have been told their best two pitchers will probably be a Freshman and a sophomore, unless Denson can regain his form of a few years past. They should be solid defensively and hit the ball solid but I am afraid pitching will hurt them in the end. But Masten showed last year with an underdog team in the region that he knows how to pull the strings in the big games, a couple of timely hits against Somerset and they would have played Danville for the Region Championship. Hopes are high for this upcoming season.

Anyone who has watched Boyle County play over the past 10 years during the "Chuck Smith" era until the present would have to acknowledge 2 distinct patterns with their program. 1. For whatever reason the attention to detail and the little things that Chucks teams did that won close games and made games that should have been close not so close do not exist. The Boyle program today compared to the Boyle program just 2 years ago is not the same. Is this coaching, is this the players, I do not know. Chuck Smith was a "special" coach that did something that could never be duplicated. 2. The talent level in the Senior and Junior Class is a far cry from the talent level that has been cycling through Boyle County for the past 10 years. The only season that I can think of that had 1 or 2 talented players and a bunch of team players in the senior class with them was the year that Duggins was a senior, I think they had 4 seniors that year. But that year they had a very deep and talented Junior Class. Boyle has had talented Sophomore classes come through like the one that they have now, but the program was full of talented, mature, WINNING, upperclassmen who kept the pressure and the need for making big plays off of the Soph.'s. I think Boyle's biggest problem right now is that they simply do not have the overall talent that they have had and they are not the "well oiled machine" that we have come to know. With that said, according to some rankings Boyle has played the 9th toughest schedule in the state. What some people are missing is that 3 or 4 years ago they would have been 6-0 against the 9th toughest schedule, but like I mentioned above there are 2 reasons I feel that they are not the team they used to be. Could be right could be wrong, but just my opinion.

East-What is your thinking on Boyle. I have heard the Perrin kid transferred to Boyle, but they have alot of holes to fill. Maybe you know something I don't?

If everyone from Lincoln plays, I think they will be right in the mix.

Any updates today, heard that Lincoln County beat a team last night with Jordan Smart, Tyler Portwood and Jonathon Vanhoose. Anybody there for that one.

Has anyone watched Lincoln County play at Blue Chip? How have they looked? I think they play Elliot County at 4:10 today.

As the summer wears on, who is emerging as contenders and pretenders for 2007 in the 12th region.
