Not to make excuses but the flu hit us hard against West Jessamine. We only had 9 players make the trip. 2 of them 8th graders. And Aaron Young played but probably shouldn't have. Against Clay it was a 13 point game with a minute and 20 seconds to go and then one of the ref's got mad at our crowd and it ended up being a 23 point game. WE played our best game of the year against McCreary.

Coach Upchurch has done a great job down there at Monticello. In my opinion he should have been coach of the year last year with how he turned things around down there.

Wayne scored an old fashion 3 point play with 4.8 seconds to go to pull out the victory. TT Wooldridges 3 pointer at the buzzer rimmed off, preventing OT. Neither team brought their A game tonight. Depending on the coin flip this Thursday, these two could meet up again in the first round of the district.

Around 1992 was when the county quit playing intramural basketball, and started playing intermural basketball in the elementary grades. Thankfully the county elementary schools started playing intramural games again this year.

I read somewhere that Cody Decker did not play in this game. Is he sick or injured?

McCreary had 6 turnovers, 12 steals, 12 offensive rebounds, made 47% of their 2's, and 78% of their FT's, and you all made six 3's in the game with SW. I thought they played pretty well. In fact during the time McCreary went from 14 points down to 11 points ahead I thought you all played extremely well. I will give McCreary credit because, that was the best SW played all year and McCreary still managed to win. And just to compare when you all beat us 26 at your place; McCreary had 16 turnovers, 7 offensive rebounds, shot 61% from 2's, and made 82% of your FT's made 8 threes.

I thought Gallatin looked great last night. They have some good athletes. Defensively they get after you, and rebound, Offensively they pass the ball well and move well without the ball. I thought they were extremely well coached and they were a fun bunch to watch play. The Shirley kid from Metcalf is a great shooter.

If its in the best interest of the program, and kid then it should be done. We have a freshman that has started the last 3 games on varsity for us, and he plays freshman and JV. Because he plays football, and isn't in the gym in the fall he needs the extra games and work. His role on the varsity is to beat and bang and rebound. He averages about 4 points a game. In the freshman games he is looked at to score and is the #1 option in the offense. I do not think there is a correct blanket answer here because each situation is different. In the above example I absolutely believe playing a varsity starter in the freshman games is whats in the best interest for both the kid and the program. Now if the Varsity team was a regional contender and the freshman was a key player instead of a role player then that is a totally different situation. But in those circumstances I dont think the head coach would allow the kid to play.

I agree that the way it is now, the defense gets the rebound the majority of the time. However if they move them up the lane the defense will get the ball an even bigger majority of the time. Thus penalizing missed FT more often.

Many coaches keep the same game plan but Schulz isn't one of those. When you can go out and recruit players like in college, then you can recruit players that fit into your system. Then you can have the same system year in and year out. However in HS you have to play the cards that are delt to you. This years SW team cannot shoot the 3 consistantly and are totally different than the years with Fothergill, Edwards, and Dalton. Those teams were a special group that only comes along every now and again. If this years team tried to play that way we would get beat by an average of 30 points instead of 11. When you are undermanned ( as we are this year) the lower the number of possessions the better chance you have at an upset. That is probably the reason we rank last in scoring. This year we have a group of players that haven't put the time in the gym and we are paying the price for it. But to say it will be a few years before we will be back is in my opinion crazy talk. We will return one of the better players in the region in Trevor Jones. Aaron Young with another year in the gym will be a nice high school player. Zack Fowler is only a freshman and will get better this summer. If Tyler Mayer works on his shot and becomes like Swiggert by next year he will be tough. The Epperson twins will be in the gym all summer maturing and improving. When TT Wooldrige shows up to play he is one of the best players in the gym. So while it will take a lot of hard work this summer, the future is bright for SW basketball. Anyway back to the stats: Thanks for taking the time to do this. I for one appreciate it. McCreary and Lincoln both have Offensive firepower and are well coached. They are definately favorites to go to Rupp.

I think it is to prevent calling a foul, then letting subs enter ( 25 seconds to get situated). Shooting the first foul shots, and then letting some more subs enter ( another 20 seconds). That is what I was told the reason for the rule was. It will take an Hour and seven minute game down to an hour and 4 minute game, but only if there are alot of subs on a lot of free throws. But the rule I wish they would would change is where the Players stand on FT. I think the "D" is at a disadvantage underneath the block. Especially when players are allowed to shove them even farther down underneath the goal and nothing is called.

1) I think it is to speed up games 2) I do not know if they will make that change but they should.

Why is it ironic? Southwestern has graduated everyone off the team from two years ago. Get us this year because we will be back towards the top next year.

South wins again

I thought Colegate had an excellent game plan. They spread out Rose Hill and hit some big time shots. In fact the first three that was shot to tie the game rimmed in and out. Even though it wasn't a high scoring game it was exciting at the end. I thought the play of the game was when 24 blocked the shot late in 4th. That was a nice athletic play.

Good win for Coach Jones the Raider Nation. Watts is the real deal.

Somerset had an off game shooting. Price and Wallen are usually deadly from the 3 but both missed some open looks last night. I thought Somerset had to many TO's last night and that ended up getting them in the end. It just wasn't the Jumpers night. I still think Somerset has the potential to win the 12th Region and maybe this early loss in the all A will fuel a run in the the post season.

Refs completely stole this game from Southwestern. :lol: Actually I am just trying to get SSF's blood pressure up. The refs called a good game. This game was won by the best team. Robert Jones has a bunch down there that can shoot lights out. They play hard and will give Lincoln Co. all they want. Watts had 25, Phillips had 19 and Roark had 12 to lead the Raiders. Trevor Jones had 21 to lead SW.
