Yes, but it did not matter. He played good and still Gallatin won.

Gallatin County returns to the All "A" Classic State Tournament for the third year in a row and looks to better themselves from last year quarterfinal loss to eventual State Champion Bishop Brossart. There is a sea of blue on the visitor's side of the gym. Definately more than last year's crowd. Metcalfe County is well represented also on the home side.

 

In probably the most intense first few minutes that I have seen this tournament, Gallatin County beat Metcalfe County to the ball, jumping out to a 14-9 lead with just under 3 minutes to go in the opening quarter. Each team added a bucket before the horn sounded, making the score 16-11 in favor of Gallatin County.

 

Metcalfe County switched out of their zone coverage in the second quarter but after Gallatin had added 6 more points, shutting out the Hornets for the first couple of minutes in the period. Gallatin County had 10 points off of second chances in the half. That helped extend the Wildcat lead to 14 points at the half, 34-20.

 

Both teams came out refreshed in the third quarter. Balanced scoring for both teams. Will Warf came alive for Metcalfe County adding 10 points and Scott Brown did the same for Gallatin adding 7. Metcalfe County cut 2 points off the Gallatin lead in the quarter with the Wildcats still up 51-39.

 

Metcalfe County continued to chop into the Gallatin County lead, cutting it to 8 at one point. Uncharacteristically, Gallatin County has hit no three pointers. Going 0-6 with 3 minutes to go in the game. Gallatin continued to play the hard-nosed ball that they know how, extending the lead to 18 at one point in the final quarter. The Wildcats overpowered the Hornets and advance to the quarter finals for the second year in a row with the 74-58 final. The Wildcats will face Hazard tomorrow in the nitecap.
