  1. My thoughts, prayers are with him and his family. I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the devastation that car wrecks can have..with family and friends. Best of luck to you Justin, may God be with you.
  2. You've gone from stating that they would have a "significant edge" to saying that they now it would just be an "advantage". Anybody that can read between the lines of you comments worth a dang could sure as heck tell that you werent talking about how fair or just it would be for next year, thats for sure..But, Ive said my peace and made my points, as well..so, we'll leave it at that..good conversation, Westsider :thumb: ..but, back to the real reason of this topic, as someone had mentioned earlier, anyone against this merger is thinking with their hearts and not their heads..whatever needs to be done to get it done, needs to be done!!
  3. Oh, Im terribly sorry...you said a "significant edge" in a previous post...the sugar-coated meaning of "unfair". Im sure Im the only one who thinks those two sayings/terms have completely different meanings?! Come on now.... ..In all seriousness, though, I do apologize if I made it sound like I was saying that you were placing blame. For that, Im sorry. :thumb: And, Im not saying that you will, but I can already see the comments and what people will say, demoralizing any success that Mercer would have next year if this merge happens b/c of their enrollment. If there even would be an "significant edge" in 2A would yet to be determined. There may or may not be, because we all know that there are teams playing in a "higher" class that couldnt even begin to compete with the teams in a class "lower" than them; nobody would be saying anything about them, though..and at the sametime, Im not nieve enough to believe that Mercer wouldnt have an EDGE, not a "significant" or "unfair" one, though...but, every team across the state that will be moving "up" a class in 2007 should, i guess, have an edge in their respective class in 2006, I just dont want Mercer to be singled out, but with any success next year, Im sure the fingers will start getting pointed....and this playing down a class will only be for ONE YEAR, thats what I hope people will realize!!...Which the logical, intelligent, non-naysayers will! (and, Im not saying you arent logical, intelligent or a naysayer, by any means...dont think that) :thumb: :ylsuper:
  4. Well, why dont we just break it down to the nitty gritty, then?!? Personally, I dont care about the scenario..900 students from growth or 900 students from consolidation, it's still 900 students...all of them comming from pracitically the same town of 6,000 people. Now, it would be an entirely different scenerio if both H'burg and Mercer were big 2A schools, merged, then played in 2A with 4A numbers...that, my friend, would be an "entirely different scenerio"! ..900 students is 900, I dont care how you break it down. Plus, it would only be like that for one year, anyway. But, Im sure theres going to be all kinds of people that would try to disect this merger in every possible way to show how much of an "unfair" advantage Mercer would have... ..I just hope that people keep in mind the other schools across the state that will be playing "down" a class next year before they make a move "up" in 2007. It's nobody's fault, it happens..all the time:thumb:
  5. It's happened in a lot more cases than just those, thats just the way it is sometimes. (ex: Nelson County and Meade in 90's, playing AAA when they had 4-A #'s Boyle County and LexCath in their last year of AA before moving to AAA, Lawrence County in their last year of AA, Franklin-Simpson, etc.) ....so, as you can see, it happens... And, the "edge" that you say Mercer may or may not have is out of anyones control.. If schools didnt fall or rise in their enrollment, then there wouldnt be any need in the class realignments every few years. Those schools that do end up going "up" a class due to realignments are usually playing their last year of the previous alignment, "down'' a class(as I mentioned above). If this merger goes through, then Mercer wont be the first and they definately wont be the last school to be playing "down" for a year. I would hope, that if this merger does in fact go through, then any success their football team has wouldnt be looked down upon.
  6. The new fieldhouse will be completed by this summer, and the new HS is due to be built by the the fall of 2007...
  7. A new Mercer County Senior High School is being built that will hold 750 students 10 thru 12 along with new athletic fields.
  8. According to Harrodsburg's school website their student/teacher ratio is 14 to 1. Mercer's is 16 to 1.According to the statewide test scores academics are not in very good shape. How many AP classes does H'Burg offer?I heard it was less than 3. I was also told that one of those won't count as an AP class In 2007 because it was being taught by non certified AP teacher and that the curriculum was not being covered. I also was told they won't be offering Band next year. Mercer County's band just won the State Title this year.Hogtown Pride, how many times have you beaten Danville since they started playing again in 1997? I'll answer that for you, they have beaten Danville 1 time in the last 12 games. As of last week your baseball team was 0-6 and had lost all of their games by the Mercy Rule which means a 10 run rule after only 5 innings and your girls softball team was also winless.I think the boys baseball team was like 2 -20 something last year. Both of the B-ball programs only won a few games and the football yeam finished 3-8. I'd rather play a little on a great TEAM than start on a losing one.
  9. I couldn't disagree with you more. I'll give you some examples of schools that have consolidated and done extremely well in all sports. Mason County, Scott County,Shelby County, Lincoln County,Franklin Simpson, Allen County Scottsville, Calwell County,Graves County ,Marshall County, Rockcastle County and Henderson County. All of these schools usually have pretty good teams in their entire sports programs for both boys and girls. You have to look at what this would do for both academics and athletics and I think it would strengthen their entire programs for the good.
  10. I heard last night that the Providence and Webster County were going to merge. If this happens, look out 2A here we come.
  11. st of all the school would not be that big. An extra 200 students would not have that big of effect on student /teacher ratio. Mercer County's student/teacher ratio according to their web site is 16 to 1 . That is very, very good. Along with 2oo students you would also be getting more teachers. You could also offer alot more AP classes for your student body. The pluses that a little bit bigger school would have are greater than the negatives. As far as the So So players, in football you could 2 platoon and actually alot more kids would get to specialize and play. A kid that is playing on only defense could spend twice as much time in practice and become a much better player.Along with this, think about how the community would benefit and the support the school would have.A school of 850-900 is not a big school. Just ask Ft.Thomas Highlands or Boyle County.
  12. Go visit sucessful high school coaches. You'll learn more from them than you will college coaches. Most college coaches only coach 1 position and don't know alot about the other positions.
  13. Is that 8000 dollars ,for in state as well as out of state residents?
  14. LCA:fire: had a meet 2 weeks ago where they did 3 lifts. They were the squat ,power clean and the bench press. Scott County was the overall winner and they didn't break it down into classes. Alot of High school coaches don't like the deadlift. I've yet to see Highlands, Boyle ,Bowling Green Newport Catholic, Danville, Mayfield or Male at any of these meets.
  15. Congratulations, Brandon! You made a great choice...Best of luck to you!
  16. Henderson County's is very impressive. As a matter of fact,in their pregame, I guess its someone local that has recorded the Henderson County version of Hank, Jr.s "Are you ready for some football", they play it throughout the stadium. They have cuts in the song of Peckinpaugh and crew calling a game, making reference to certain players doing this and that, etc. Definately some slick stuff. If Peckinpaugh has resigned from calling the games, Im sure he'll definately be missed!!
  17. I don't think Bob got the Valdosta Job. He took a job north of Atlanta.
  18. This is off subject a little but did any of you all read the article in the Lexington Herald about Lexington Catholic's #1 rated gils basketball team. Out of the 1st seven players only one of them live in Fayette County? That means 6 out of the 1st seven live more than 20 miles from their school.I know for a fact where their best player lives and it's over 35 miles.
  19. It's not much fun on here when someone attacks you personally is it Blackshirts. I hope eveyone remembers this when they say something negative about someone else who they don't even know.
  20. Brad's dad was the Head coach there at one time and his Mom still lives there. I also believe his fiance lives there. So everybody is happy.
  21. Congratulations Brad, you'll do a fine job. Best of luck! :thumb:
  22. That drive from Louisville is going to get old. He is not moving his wife is a lawyer for LG and E.
  23. Im sure some have heard, but Mercer County has the construction of their new field house/indoor facility/weight room under way. It will be, without a doubt, the best high school facility in the state. As a matter of fact, it will be the third best overall in the state, behind UK and UL's. NO JOKE!! 40,000 sq. ft., 50 yds of turf(the stuff like UL, LexCath, etc. have), a walking/running track around the top, football coaches office, womens locker rooms, batting cages, the whole she'bang....
  24. Dennis and Derrick Johnson, Julius Yeast and I think the 4th was a kid named Sutton who signed with UK.
