  1. That was a great game. Two teams flat knockin the crap out of each other and mutual respect for the other. There was no quit, no giving up, no laying down, none of the. Each team just kept throwing its punches and Russell just landed a couple more. It was a great game, smashmouth, physical football at its best. I just want to say congrats to Coach Jaggers, staff and players. You all accomplished more this year than I think anyone could ever have imagined..most wins in school history (10) and getting over that first round playoff hump for the first time since 1988. You have a lot to be proud of! I think there is definately something special in the making at Mercer County, without a doubt!! As for Russell. Congats to you as well. You were the better team. It was a great atmosphere for HS football. I was impressed with the whole set-up, from the stadium to the fans, very classy. Best of luck to y'all the rest of the way, I too hope we were beaten by the eventual 2-A champs. Great game!
  2. Wow, that's creative! Come up with that all by yourself?!
  3. midee, I appreciate it, and Im gonna hold you to it!!
  4. From the sounds of it, i may not make it too the game if we stop at one of those pizza places..haha
  5. Garrardgnat, What do you mean, getting my facts straight on how it unfolded? Mercer was down in the game, and came back to win. Thats the only point Im trying to make. From what I remember, Mercer was down at halftime, or if not halftime, they were down for most of the 1st half.
  6. There is seating for visitors. The home side seats just about everybody in attendance, and with seating is in the endzone, it will all be fine. Just because their isnt any seating on the "visitors" side, doesnt mean that their isnt any seating for the visitors. Look at Western Kentucky Univ. LT Smith Stadium. It holds 16,000, seating on the "home" side only., doesnt mean the visiting team doesnt have any place to sit.
  7. I know it might have looked like that, bu no. For the most part I dont agree with the Massey ratings, I mean, they are fun to look at and stuff and try to get a grasp of how the game could possibly go, thats about it.
  8. Mr. No Name Exactly. It's almost spitting image of Georgetown's stadium, the home side, at least. It has a real nice walkway above the bleachers, concessions, all that stuff. If you have seen Georgetowns, then, you've seen John Hardins. The field is in real good shape too. It's a first class facility.
  9. You can take those percentages, massey ratings, zip them up in a bag and toss them in the lake.. because they mean absoluetly nothing at this point. Comparing scores too, throw that out. This will be a good game for a while, i believe, then Male will pull away. I was at the Male/Manual game, and the way Male kept their composure and pulled off the win was a true sign of a great team. Im pulling for the Bulldogs in Red and Black, but Im thinking that those boys from Male will win, further more, will be the state champs in 4A.
  10. Im goin with them Tigers of Bardstown, by a couple TD's.
  11. Frances, I agree. Mercer doesnt need to get behind on Russell like they did on Morgan, even if they do, Mercer cab still pull off a win. They wont panic, they have been down several times this year early in the game. North Laurel jumped out to a lead, so did Newport, Morgan and Garrard County. All of these teams were up at least one touchdown, maybe 2 at halftime. In saying that, i will agree that this Russell team will be the best that Mercer has played. I dont think they have better athletes than Newport(I sure hope not), even at that, Mercer gave Newport all that they wanted, but athletes and football players are really two different things. It's a shame you're not going to be able to attend the game. Tell all the ladies in Mayberry hello!! haha. Best of Luck to your Red Devils. :thumb:
  12. FBALL, By the way, Four plays is all you need! I can see now why Coach McGlone has been so successfull over the years..theres no need for more than four plays. Between him and Jaggers, their might be a total of 7 different offensive plays ran combined friday nite. Just the way I like it!!! :thumb: :dancingpa
  13. Frances, The Wing T is the Wing T, is the Wing T. Their is nothing fancy about it, just like Jaggers and the Wishbone (one of the reasons why Im going to enjoy watching this game so much, despite the outcome, two great running offenses). The LB's watch the guards in the Wing T and when Russell lines up in the Power I. Nothing changes. The guard block down, LB's fill, the guards pull, the LB's follow, the guards kick out, the LB's fill. It's easier said than done, thats for sure, especially when we're talking about teenagers out there. Best of Luck!!
  14. It actually wasnt even halftime, by the end of the first quarter. Defending the Wing-T IMO is easier to defend, all you have to do is watch the guards. They'll take you to the ball, EVERYTIME. With the counter option and other option attacks, you have a lot of different keys to look at, well, the LB's have a lot of different things that can mess with you. Morgan was running the counter option and pulling a guard, on the regular option attack they werent pulling anyboy, so, the LB's key changed. This week, it wont. It will be the same. The guards take you right to it, 90% of the time, sometimes they influence, not much.
  15. Nets, Heres what i got from the game. The first half, Morgan whipped Mercer's tail, having close to 200 yds in the half. The second half y'all had around 70 total yards. You dont think that didnt come from Mercer's coaching staff puting their players in a better position to make plays?!? Come on now. Actually, the difference was Mercer's physical play, around 320 yards on 35 plays..thats a little over 9 yards per carry. Scoring 48 points in 3 quarters. The Counter Option was what Morgan was running, thats what was giving Mercer fits in the first half. If it was never stopped, why would they have gone away from it and run something different?!?! The Counter option is also what Mercer bottled up in the 2nd half.Morgan came out in the 2nd half running what was successful in the first half. which was a smart move. Why would Morgan have came out the 2nd half to run something different before what they were running successfully was ever stopped??!!!? . Those errant pitches came from the quarterback getting hit. Thats the down side to running the option, 'bobbled' pitches. Personally, i love the option. When it's clicking, there is nothing better to watch in football, but when the opposing defense plays discaplined football, meaning.. one man on the give, one on the pitch and one on the quarterback, then Things tend to get a little chaotic. If your fullback, quarterback and pitch man(halfback) are getting popped, then those bobbled pitches and miscues happen. Ask anybody that knows about the option attack You want to talk about fumbles resulting in loss yardage, bad breaks here, bad breaks there..then, what about that INT that was taken from Mercer for that joke of a pass interference call?? Morgan County had a very impressive squad, a bunch of hard nosed guys that like to fly around and play football, just like Mercer. Best of luck to all of y'alls kids in returning for the '06 season succesfully. For a half, it looked like a smaller Air Force Academy out there running the ball. You all have a good thing going now up there in West Liberty. Im sure we'll meet again next year.
  16. I actually think Henry's line is just as big, if not bigger. The thing about Mercer's line is that they have about 2 or 3 of the guys that are just nasty. I mean, they just flat have an attitude, the good attitude. A little bit of swagger, but humbled, if that makes any sense?
  17. No sensitivity here. The couple posts before i wrote mine, were sounding like Mercer wasnt goin to stand a chance. I spoke out. Oh, Im sorry, I guess i wasnt supposed to defend Mercer was I?? You're right, though, on all Russell not feeling the same way. If i made it sound like i meant all of them, which i can see where i did, i was wrong. For that apologize.
  18. That's great! Good to know he can still has something to look forward too when baseball rolls around. That's definately the sport to pick if you're real good at it, and wantin make some money!! Smart kid.
  19. If they arent worth throwing out there, then why even mention them?? Comparing scores, in most cases, is the worst possible way to try and compare teams
  20. Thats what Scheller was and still is for Mercer. Just a good all around football player. Is Potter looking to play after HS?
  21. For fans purpose that win streak is a big deal. The kids, coaches could careless. Streaks come to an end sometime.
  22. Yes, Scheller is out. The other kid, the FB/DE, will probably be questionable. I hate to hear that about y'alls kid as well, especially it being his senior year. And, Scheller is a senior.
  23. You can throw that record stuff out the window right now, strength of schedule, etc. just like this one, The one opponent they have in common they both beat by at least 20pts. Russell 35-Morgan 14.....Mercer 48-Morgan 28. Big deal.
  24. And, so was Mercer, they were missing key players as well. Their best player, Brandon Scheller, sidelined with a torn ACL.
  25. Red Shift, I completly agree with your last paragraph.... Let me say that, Mercer has taken over with their line, in every game this year, even against Newport, they dominated the LOS. Mercer will try to do the same this week, granted, Russell will be the best team Mercer has played this year. They dont try to equalize, they use their line to their strength, big time. I was just saying that it can be an equalizer for any average team. Mercer doesnt run the option, i was referring to Morgan County running the option. Best of luck to both teams. It should be a great fight!! :thumb:
