What's so interesting about that FACT, unless you need to make something out of it? I've heard enrollment as an excuse for performance for 5 weeks now. Was anyone whining about Western's enrollment numbers last year when they weren't in the AP top 10? :sssh: The KHSAA has their own website...those who want to discuss enrollment numbers and classifications need to go there and take it up with them. Otherwise it will be considered whining and excuse making. :argue: If you want to talk about facts...Mercer and Western are playing good football, and the AP rankings are opinion based.

Casey will put up a fight, but much like last year the skill and depth of Mercer will completely overwhelm them. Could this be the last time they play for a long while?

I think your exact words were "if I watched the #1 team in 2A tonight, that class is way down." If that is the case then you are saying Boyle would be a middle of the pack 2A team competitively speaking. Quit knocking on a team that beat you, quit knocking on classes, quit knocking on enrollments, and take your loss like a 5 time champion....with some class.:irked:

:thumb: Great post...:thumb: Outsiders will never understand the dynamics of what has taken place in Mercer-burg this year. There has been alot of sacrifice and give and take to make this work. Our guys may understand TEAM concept more than most squads this year. They are hungry and tired of mediocrity...they WILL be a handful come playoff time.

Traditionally no....Newport and Lloyd Memorial are usually very good teams, however they may be down this year. Newport seems to be the toughest of the remaining games for Mercer.

Well you have the winning with class down pat...now we just need to work on the losing with class.

The new stadium will be completed for next season. That will take care of the seating arrangement. Mercer did the best with what they had and should be commended for the effort and work it took to accomodate that many fans from both schools. I saw what many others in this thread saw...fans from both sides having a good time, mingling, tailgating, etc... You had some smart aleck kids around you...sorry they singled YOU out while so many other folks from BOTH sides were enjoying themselves. Besides, there were not so many complaints about our facilities when Boyle was waxing Mercer 58-7.:sssh:

Thank you.... While I do think that Mercer is ready to get to Louisville this year, I am one Mercer fan that wants to avoid any comparison with Russell and Belfry. For the exact reason you mentioned above! The only way to know who is better is to line them up....so what is the point in this thread??

Western vs. North Laurel @ Fort Harrod Bowl immediately preceding Mercer Co.'s dismantling of South Laurel. Western is fast. Mercer is faster. Would be an interesting game though. I think Western is a very good team.

Great post...and that is a key advantage for Mercer. They are just SO DEEP in every position. An injury (even to their backfield) could be absorbed. There is just not enough touches to go around for everybody.

5 or 6 less dropped passes on Mercers part and the game would have been somewhat different also..... Mercer's defense was again very steady. May be Boyles lowest output of the season.

Which is why Mercer has outscored them 165-6 !!!! Can't do a thing about your opponents talent level....all you can do is play the game.

I know....and most of the folks who are doing most of the talking weren't here when we couldn't win a playoff game. They weren't here for the down years and the rebuilding years leading up to this year. That being said, it is nice to have the excitement level and interest in the program while we try to nurture a tradition much like Boyle in the early years of their success under Smith. Be patient..Mercer has been waiting a long time to be excited about football!

Well, if there is a level over State Champsthat you guys can raise your game to.....then I would agree. Last years success, along with the measuring stick of playing Russell, and the merge additions has in fact produced a much tougher minded squad. We are still relying too much on speed to cover some of the items you mentioned above...but we are improving. When we "hit someone in the mouth" and have a real slugfest with a tough, physical team....then we are ready!!! We may get that opportunity this week, with Boyle coming to town.

Mercer will have to open up the playbook on this one. They have played it very conservative to date. I also think they have done that just for this game. Look for some fireworks this weekend. My big hope is that the stingy Mercer D continues to shut down their opponent. Boyle is a big measuring stick.

Deal with it, or be factual in what you post. By the way....buying a T-shirt is not "giving money to the program".

I actually look for a defensive struggle next week...seriously. But that is for another post. Nothing wrong with Boyle Co. Their record is simply the result of one of the more difficult schedules to date of any team in the state.

That's my only beef with you. This is exactly the kind of image that REAL Mercer fans are trying not to convey.

It's fine if you want to THINK they are the fastest backfields around. That's a far cry from popping off RIDICULOUS 40 times like you would know. You obviously don't.
