Much better job by the Golden Lions tonight. Don't let the final score fool you; take away an 85-yard touchdown run with 20 seconds let in the half and this is a 14-0 game at halftime. Mercer still would have won, but Garrard looked much better.

 

I feel better about upcoming games with Grant County, Casey County and Wayne County.

 

Mercer County looked pretty good, but I question their ability to win in the trenches against a big Russell or Belfry team in Class AA, or even Boyle County in next Friday's big game. They won't get dominated up-front, but I can see them being systematically controlled up front and it ending with a 21-14 playoff loss. I could be wrong. Best of luck to the Titans.

Check the South Laurel/Southwestern score. There isn't any excuse for them to take a game off. It seemed they couldn't get into the game. But, I don't think Mercer planned on showing much tonight the week before playing Boyle co. We played bad and won 49-0. Final.

I agree with that. I think Mercer County came out flat after a week off and was obviously playing an inferior opponent. Mix in the fact that they very well could have been looking ahead to next Friday's big game with Boyle County. I know Mercer didn't play great, but I still didn't think their offensive line was dominant and that's what I look for when determining who is a state title contender.

When you have 3 running backs who run 4.3,4.35,and 4.39 you just need a hole of some sort. They have blocked well up until tonight. This is an entirely new offensive and defensive line Mercer has this season. I think they may have seen that #1 ranking this week and thought Garrard would roll over. They didn't and Mercer didn't respond well to that.

In your district, I'm sure you will handle Spencer, North Oldham and Henry County. After Lloyd lost to Dayton tonight by twenty, I'm guessing you can chalk up a "W" for that one, too. What about Newport? I'm not sure what kind of team they have this season.

 

As for the postseason, you should romp through the first two rounds. As for the third round, you'll likely be looking at Louisville Western. Yeah, we have alot to work on. But, it's early. I think Newport is going to be a tough game on the road. And, next week we will really be tested. Boyle Co might be 1-3 but they are averaging around 500 yards a game. Besides the Henry Clay game they have been their till the end. We will see where we are next week. We have to come out and play ever week like everybody else. Nothing will be easy. We did a poor job tackling tonight. That was my biggest gripe. I think our backs did a good job. #13 (Ford) is unbelievable.

Morgan can throw the ball pretty well. He needs more game reps I believe. I believe he hasn't gotten those due to our rushing attack. But, the guy who I have liked since day 1 is the Qb out there on the last drive of the game for Mercer. #7 Trevor Short is a sophomore. He can wing it and he has great wheels. He is the future.

He played a little in the second half to get him some game action before next week's battle with Boyle Co.

Is Mercer going to be stoped this year? With all that size,speed,talent and everything else it almost seems that they will make a u huge playoff run.

I think they will if they humble themselves, and not continue with the attitude that 'we're better then everyone.'

With three kids that fast, no one should even come close to them, literally. I seriouslly doubt any team in the state has 3 sub-4.4 guys on one team. That includes UK, U of L, and any high school team as well. I don't doubt they are fast kids and great players, I just question those times.
