All Play No Work

When the Beechwood / Dayton game nearly turned into a riot because of crowd problems a few years back the refs sent both teams off the sidelines and to the opposite endzones while the police did their work. The band took the field and started playing the "Eye of the Tiger" song from the Rocky movies. The refs weren't happy.:sssh:

Maybe along with a Secondary coach, a QB Coach, a Strength coach, they need a Band coach.

Well it wasn't my first Dayton game (that was in '65) and the band was frantically playing as loud and as constantly as they could as Lynn Camp was driving and by direction of the head band dude. Not that I care because I look at it as bands are just like fans with noisemakers, or milk jugs, or loud voices except they have.........um instruments which make them louder and more noticable. Actually I think the fans of both teams would have preferred to have them not playing, so they could cheer and hear each other.

Statman, I tend to agree with you about the band playing as loud as possible when the opposition has the ball, but then I don't really care about bands and they are rarely at actual games anymore. As for the final spot I was right there literally and at least that one was accurate. The ball never crossed the goal line.

Why not? Two years ago I thought LCA had a great case for being the #2 team in the state in Class A. Last year they would have been somewhere between #5 and #8. This year the Lloyd win, the Raceland win, and CAL win tell me that the game with Corbin will a good one and a chance for LCA to make a statement.

Good thing #4 never changes.

Cramps and just beat up injuries I believe. The uniforms of the RBs for Lynn Camp looked almost grey instead of white from the sweat, dirt, grass, and the pounding they took and gave. I believe Lynn Camp even lost the starting QB on the final drive at about the 25 yard line. Lynn Camp converted a 4th and 5 earlier in the drive getting to the 15 and making the first down by about 2 inches. Just an exciting final drive with no timeouts, injuries, first downs by inches, and a final stop.

Ryle is most effective when they keep the ball on the ground and don't make mistakes. When they have to throw it, or when they turn it over they are beatable.

I think the Camels are better than what they've shown.

You know you would actually have to call pass plays to find out. Actually he did look like he wanted to pass a few times but he just got sacked before he could even set up to look for anyone.

I'm telling you LCA is for real this year. Time to include them in with Beechwood, Mayfield, etc.

I'd like to credit the NCC and the Holy Cross defenses but good golly the offenses were so inept it is hard to tell how good the defenses were. NCC dropped 5 or 6 passes that would have been nice gains, had about a negative 70 yards on 4 bad snaps (including 24 on the first play of the second half), fumbled the ball, threw an INT in the endzone on second and goal from the 3, assosrted holds and personal fouls. Oh and when they punted it would roll into the endzone by a foot or two. Holy Cross ran about 5 plays and 85% of them were the QB takes the ball down the line and either hands it off for no gain or keeps it for no gain. Crossed midfield twice both times by NCC personal fouls. Longest offensive play of the night was a pass from punt formation which really wasn't a designed fake, but was thrown when the NCC defender decided to leave the wide man all alone and walk up to join everyone on the line. I'm guessing neither offense wanted to show a lot because they will see each other again but Zzzzzzzz's on this one tonight.

Dayton stopped Lynn Camp on the 1 foot line on a 4 and goal from the 5 with the clock running and only 4 seconds remained. The runner dove for the endzone but was marked down just shy of the goal line and Dayton hung on 20-13. Lynn Camp lost at least 1 player to injury on about 5 different occasions on the final drive. Both teams battled to exhaustion.

I agree and I fear more first round blowouts than previously. I was totally against playing inside your own district for the first two rounds of the playoffs with the 4 class system, but now think it almost has to be that way in the 6 class (4 teams in a district) world. Who would want to travel to say Beechwood or LCA to see a 4 seed that could be 0-10 play a #1 seed that could be 10-0?

They haven't really been on the NKY radar because they really do not play any typical NKY teams. Hats off to them for winning some games and the Frankfort game was a good learning experience for the next step.

I would like to see all Juniors and Seniors be given the option of remaining in their current school.

I don't know how St. Henry would do in football either. It would be interesting. Would a wider district hurt or help? Either way I do believe the other programs would suffer similar to any small school.

If kids want to play in the 3rd thru 6th grade then it is either the FTJRFL or the NKYFL. So many kids play in the FTJRFL.

Highlands isn't a true small school and they do usually have good teams in multiple sports. Brossart and NCC do not even have swimming teams. NCC sometimes does, sometimes doesn't have enough for a cross-country team but would if they did not have football. Same thing for golf. Brossart has had very good golf and cross-country teams but had no football. St. Henry has great cross-country and soccer teams but no football. it's just hard to be competitve in all sports at a small school. Yes, it is difficult for kids to play multiple sports now as compared to the past. Mostly due to sports being year round (right or wrong).

Isn't Pendleton in a 4 team district? So it should be this year. The other two are in a 5 teams district so they could eventually make it by winning 1 game. Depends on where/if teams are re-aligned in 2 years.

It's called reality especially in a small school. It took Holy Cross a substantial amount of time to become competitive and their once prominent soccer program has become average. Some would even contend it (football) has weaken the basketball program. That's not to say schools should not start football programs. But the reality is football programs are a beast at the high school level and tend to eat other programs.

How is it a personal attack when you state "that you must decide in middle school where to go" when that is simply not a true statement? It's only been discussed on here and in the newpapers about 523 times. And you can claim they over-scheduled and I can disagree. I also think most Highlands players and fans would disagree. And you even contradicted yourself saying that trophys going up the hill "turns some heads" and then wondering why there was a 20 year gap. I don't think think it was personal but if you want to note that was go ahead.

Brossart and Bracken and Pendleton (and just about anywhere else that is or has started football) face more competition from other established sports at their own schools than they do from outside their school.

OK let's see. #1 Highlands hasn't over-scheduled. They have scheduled games that make them better come playoff time and the players look forward to the challenges. #2 You don't have to decide anything in middle school. None of those proposals were put in effect. #3 If the "first trophy up the hill" was going to turn heads then NCC would have been a lot better in the 90s instead of Beechwood winning nearly every year. #4 You finally got something right in that both Highlands and NCC have a lot of family tradition. .250 average (the Reds could use you).
