Where is the update? Is it still 2-0? Is it a 20 minute time-out? Are the updates slower because it is not a 16th region team playing? Thanks...

First off, Russell "earned" the right to represent the 16th because no one else in the 16th prevented them from taking the crown. They won their games that was in front of them and got to RUPP. Any other team in the 16th would NOT have fared as well. Most people, inside our area and out in the state, knows that the 16th is way down in terms of talent and competitive teams. Just a fact. As for the Elliott County Lions and other thinking they would have represented better, it is extremely doubtful. At one point Elliott was down by a huge margin to Russell only to lose by 4. I saw Graves play and I have seen Elliott enough to know that Graves would have won by 40 plus over the Lions. Stop knocking Russell when the other teams in the region would not have done any better than Russell at the state.

Nope, the rest of state is getting better, while the 16th is slipping.

This is exactly why the rest of the state laughs when we try to hype a player. It just doesn't fly. In the 16th, you can take an average player, even average frosh and soph players, and be a legend out this way. The talent disparity is off the charts. If a player in the 6th, 7th, or 11th averaged 10 points a game in their respective region then transferred to the 16th, they would average 40 a game. This is just a fact, not bashing.

Just as I have stated a year now, the 16th has very little talent and a low level of competition. In no other region would you have a frosh be named rehional MVP. Unreal.

I hate to belittle any players due to someone trying to hype a player up, but Spencer should not be mentioned on this thread.

And folks out our way wonder why the rest of the state see us as sub-par region. The players being mentioned are good., but this is getting out of hand. The kids performed well mainly due to the fact that our region was down this year. In any regard, stop bashing one kid to make the other look better, it just feeds the rest of the state evidence that they are right. In strong regions, frosh just do not play, no matter how good they are. Ferguson got his chance to play on a team that offered the opportunity and did well. But don't bring down good players like McDavid and Van Hoose to promote another in our region. Just give them all due credit. Enough said.

No one mentioned it since everyone eventually knew you would. Oldham was outmatched by SK no matter what the circumstances were. Without any serious backcourt at Oldham, SK had the advantage from start to finish. It does not matter if its injuries or so called "coaches decision", other teams face those issues too. Just don't diminish SK's win to hype your players or make excuses.

I know this is a predominantly pro-eastern Kentucky and 16th region messageboard, but to leave out 6'5" Stephone Pettigrew of Etown is insane.

The list is proof positive that the 16th region is truly near the bottom of all KY regions in terms of talent. No way does any region place this many average (8th and frosh) any where near an all-region team. This is embarrassing.

It appears SKFAN you are touting this kid on other boards too. I have seen Hester and he is the leader for his team. Not sure he is at the level of some of the players you are trying to compare him with.

It doesn't hurt to have a high school coach to help push the hype either. The Middlesboro coach has done just about everything he can to help this kid get a better offer than LMU.

Facts: He will not play at Louisville. He would not average this many 3's or points in Lexington or Louisville. He would not start for some of the top teams in Kentucky such as Henry Clay, Scott County, and some others. If he did play (and in some cases started) for some of the top teams in Kentucky he would have to share the ball, which he does not at Middlesboro. By sharing the ball, he would not have those numbers and without those numbers, this discussion never occurs.

I am just happy that not every kid that gets a letter, invite to a game, or interest from a D1 school, that a fan gets on here and hypes it to the moon. Miller is a good player and does have all those 3's to prove it. Just keep it in perspective that there is a ton of sharp shooting kids in Kentucky and they see much better defenses that what Miller is seeing. Those numbers would not exist in the 11th or 7th regions. That is just a plain fact.

Miller is a good player. Dominic Tilford was Mr. Basketball last year and put up numbers to get it in the 7th Region. Tilford is struggling thus far and most in our area say he cannot survive in the Big East where the game is played rough and tough. I do not see Miller making this roster. Most say he will go to LMU college.

All four are definately ones to watch for. Shelvin Mack is the best of the group. Can flat take people off the drive and can hit shots from the perimeter, may be one of the best on ball defenders in the 11th. Victor Moses is a post player that never relents on the boards. He is sometimes overshadowed by Aaron Dunaway, but Moses always seems to find a way to keep his stat lines impressive. Nathan Novosel is one whose stock has risen quickly since the beginning of the season. He has impressed people with his overall game and fundamentals and consistantly hitting midrange jumpers. He will not be outworked and will go to the hole strong, he plays fearlessly. Have not seen Sparks play this season, but I have heard his name and about his game to know that he is a solid player. Just an opinion, but I would rate these players in the below order. 1. Shelvin Mack 6-1 PG Bryan Station 2. Vic Moses 6-4 PF Henry Clay 3. Nathan Novosel 6-5 PF Lex. Catholic 4. Michael Sparks 6-4 wing Tates Creek

Jenkins has tremendous talent as a frosh. From talking to his AAU coach, Jenkins made the jump to the 7th region to play against top talents and teams to improve his game and to gain exposure. According to his coach, he has already started receiving letters and college interest from several D1 schools in different parts of the country. Being that I live in the Cov/Cincy area, I do know that Xavier U has an eye on this kid even if he is only a frosh. This being said and the fact that he is a frosh, Jenkins will still need to continue to develop his overall game and build strength as well just as any underclassman must do. And the answer to your question about being good enough to be considered a Mr. Basketball candidate in the future, he certainly is.

I have watched Henderson play in Lexington, Louisville, and in Covington. He is a very good player. He feeds off of Jefferson and can really excel in transition. I know he is an athlete and I have seen him dunk off a dish from Jefferson by leaping two-footed off the baseline. He sometimes drifts in a half court set. He does have difficulties creating offense from the perimeter with solid defense in front of him. He has not had to rely on his own abilities to create shots. In order to reach his full potential, he will need to develop better ballhandling skills. He is an above average player in his class at the forward spot, no question. However, he could be an "outstanding" guard at 6'1" if he could improve his perimeter game. I believe he will.

Russ Middleton is a solid player. He is developing and certainly is making his way in to the top 10 of his class. There are several players starting for their respective varsity teams that you will hear more about in the future. I think Middleton will need to develop more of a perimeter game and has to play better on the defensive end. He is just a frosh and has plenty of time. He will be one to watch for.

Joseph Kidder for the Class of 2017 4'1". He is devastating the 6-year old and under league at the YMCA in NKY. He can slap board on the 6-foot rim goals and has deadly range outside the taped area where defenders must stay inside of and stand on taped X's on the floor.
