Congrats St. X on a great season...and to Trinity on hanging tuff through a season of injury based adversity and bringing home their 16th State Football Championship and a shiny new Ring.

I have been another that has not posted since the final ticks went off the clock Friday night but wanted to add a couple of comments since reading all of the posts. 1. To the X players and their faithful fans - Great Season! One you will have fond memories of for a long time with the exception of one game. The player’s accomplishments - both as a team and individually - this season were many and I know you are proud of that. Not being from Louisville and having no prior attachment to either school previous to our son choosing a high school it is hard for an outsider to feel the passion that many here do. But I think it is safe to say that regardless if your an X-man or a T-man you are from good stock and have been raised with the same Catholic values I think we all try and live by.....but for personal reasons chose different school colors for 4 years of high school. WE are all lucky to associate with such a great group of gentlemen regardless of school affiliations. All (for the most part) who posted on this board over the last several days have been gracious in defeat.....which I would have sure lost a lot of money betting on that reading the posts prior to Friday night....you guys do know how to raise ones blood pressure but you also know how to acknowledge accomplishment when it is warranted. 2. Regarding the injuries and the affect they had on the Championship game. First, best wishes to Brent Curley. No doubt this was the most significant injury of the evening for X. He was a great leader this year and tried very hard to stay at the helm Friday night despite taking that big hit. Also he was hampered by what I believe to be a broken foot according to an earlier post. No doubt that St. X had to make adjustments to compensate for his absence but I can’t honestly say that was the “miracle” we needed, hoped for, etc. What we hoped for that night was that we would take all of the naysayer comments and use them to our advantage. Everyone else in the high school football community believed we didn’t have a chance….all based primarily on a few things: our showing on 9/23, the weaker then normal Trinity D, our QB was short (but I guess you know now is heart is huge!), the strength of schedule, St. X’s strong season. The Trinity players heard all of that and it made them want it even more…..my son when he left the house Friday morning slapped the empty sleeve of his letter jacket and said, “I’ll be home after I get my State Champion patch”…no one could convince him or any of the other’s they couldn’t play with X last Friday night….they believed…but not in miracles. Trinity had it’s share of injuries as everyone knows – from before the season when we lost Graham Switzer our top D-end to during the season when we lost Michael Railey a hard hitting Linebacker lost right before the St. X game, Mike Flynn, another tough D-lineman and the back up to Switzer, Andrew Smith a Senior D-Lineman and Will Stein a great Sophomore QB/ Receiver…all of which if healthy would have been on the field Friday night. As well, many players on the field were nursing significant injuries and were pretty close to day to day…..Craig Kircher , Receiver– 2 bad ankles….one was a problem all season and the other injured in the playoffs, Kyle Flynn, Receiver – pulled calf muscle, Eric Senn, DB, Receiver – toe/ankle, Donald Barnett, RB – Knee (I believe a partial tear of the PCL), Reid Hall, Left Guard O-Line, right knee and played the end of 3rd Qtr and all of 4th with what turned out to be a concussion…..did his post game celebrating in the ER, Larry Taugher, LB – Shoulder/ Stinger – only played a series or two Friday night before having to come out and Sam Robey, Right Tackle O-Line – recovering from a bout with Mono. I am sure St. X had their share of injuries as well but I can tell you first hand that the Trinity group knew how to play hurt and some aches and pains were not going to slow them down or keep them off of the field….if there was an effect on the game Friday night as a result of injuries I would have to say any advantage went to St. X . 3. Finally regarding the Coaching. Since moving to Louisville I have heard good things about Mike Glaser, his accomplishments on the football field and the respect he garners in the St. X community….especially after he started passing the ball (just a joke J). However I do not know him personally so I cannot and should not comment further because any comments would not be based on personal experience. In my time involved within the Trinity community I have been very impressed with Bob Beatty and the person he is on and off the football field. While his personality may not sit well with some he has always been pleasant towards me and easy to engage in conversation off the field. As well, he has been equitable to my son on and off of the field. Always expressing to him the importance of responsibility – school first, make good choices, duty to self and team….be a good person. I know from comments stated by my son he has always felt Coach Beatty to be a reasonable and equitable individual. He has always enjoyed having him look him square in the eyes and know where he stands in regards to any given subject….some don’t care for that direct of an approach I suppose but our personal experience has been outstanding. I am aware from certain posters that they may not share this same feeling and I am sure there are circumstances that explain those feelings…but again can only express my feelings based off of my observation and interactions. Finally, to the Tigers of St. X congratulations once again on a fantastic season! I look forward to the continued healthy competition that makes this the top High School Football rivalry in the nation. And to the Trinity Shamrocks – Team, Coaches and Parents thanks for letting me be a part of a great program. I have enjoyed every practice, game and associated Football event in 2005! Congratulations on bringing home the Ring and doing it with such a display of heart! We believe! Go Rocks!!
