This isn’t the first year the tournament has started on a Monday, and yes Colonel, the draw has always been on a Sunday as far back as I remember. That goes back almost 50 years.

I’m not sure Monday and Tuesday’s crowds could fit into any other gym. I’m positive Friday and Saturday couldn’t.

You’re correct. There is no way any other gym would be able to hold the weekend crowds, especially Friday night.

Where would you seat everyone at any other gym in the 8th?

What I meant to say is they are not waiting on the girls 30th Final. All I know is the draw has always been on a Sunday. Per the 8th Bylaws to change the draw to Saturday all schools have to agree on it. It wasn’t unanimous.

I will say that Adair County was scheduled when Zion Harmon was still enrolled there. As far as Christmas Tournaments are concerned, most of the elite ones doesn’t a team have to be invited? Gallatin lost 3 starters from a 26 win team and were ranked middle of the pack in the 8th. Jon’s phone probably wasn’t ringing off the hook.

Regarding the first round opponent there is no favorable draw. And just out of curiosity, what could Coach Jones have done to upgrade the schedule?

I’m not sure Coomer took more than 4 or 5 shots because the Henry defense was denying him the ball. He never forced the issue and his teammates stepped up once again. If anyone in the region is playing better than Wyatt Bowen right now I would like to see him. His play has taken the Wildcats to another level.

I will add that a small school has made the finals only 4 times since. Carroll County 1988-1989. Defeated Oldham County both years in the District championship before losing to Colonels in the Regional final. Owen County 1996 Gallatin County 2008. Lost by 1 point in the finals to Shelby County.

The Wildcats capture their third straight District title and 9th under head coach Jon Jones. Gallatin improves to 26-5 with their 14th straight victory, the second longest in school history. The Cats extended a 17-13 first quarter lead to 40-27 halftime lead and never looked back. Wyatt Bowen scored a game high 27. Devin McAlister added 20, Jarin Rassman 13, Hayden Dickerson 7, Troy Coomer 5, Bryant Caldwell 2, and Zach Johnson 2.
