Great post, and I believe Stinky's prognostication will come to pass, and Bolden will be the most heavily recruited player in N Ky history, as far as offers go. I must, however, point out that DIcky Beal, the other great point guard out of Holmes committed early in his 1980 senior year to arguably the number one program in America (DePaul) and only changed his mind when Kentucky and Joe B. came calling, where he became part of the number 1 recruiting class in the country. I am a huge fan of Bolden's, and I hope he eclipses Dicky in that regard.... I'd love to see his career elevate to the point where Duke and UK/Calipari are recruiting him.....

After reading the posts of those favoring the running clock, I gotta say I was a little surprised at the rationale. I thought the running clocks advocates were people that were concerned with the fragile emotions of the losing team, not wanting to have them feel so "defeated", but it turns out most of the running clock proponents are more concerned with the increased risk of injury when there is a blowout. In response, my point is still that I think an injury from a hyper aggressive dirty team in a close game is more likely than an injury resulting from a player on a losing team in a blowout being frustrated. I always try to refrain from specific examples to prove my point, but this time it begs it.... I would venture to say that Covington Latin has more 35 point losses in its history than most schools in Kentucky, and I have never seen or heard of a Covington Latin player acting out in anger and frustration from getting blown out and causing an injury.

By this logic, why not just end the game then, when it gets to a 35 point lead? If the concern is the risk that the losing team takes cheap shots at the leading team, you should just end it then. If you don't want your kids to keep playing hard - which I think is the appropriate mindset - then just end the game at the 35 point mark. I just don't attribute cheap shots to the size of the lead. Not that I've never seen cheap shots in blowouts, but I've seen more in games when there wasn't a running clock, or mercy rule, put in place. It has more to do with the temperament of the players than the size of the margin, and it is the job of the officials to keep it under control, regardless of the margin.

I have a couple of questions. First, can anyone quote me chapter and verse as to what the running clock rule is under KHSAA rules? Secondly, in all the leagues that I have ever seen use a running clock when the differential gets too great, I have never seen the trailing coach have the option of declining the running clock, and I would like to see them have that option. While it is rare to come back from a 25 point deficit (the level that it is at for a lot of AAU leagues) I witnessed it in a game last week where a team was down 25 in the second half, but the other team's two best players, who had scored almost all their points, both had 4 fouls early in the third quarter. The leading team held the ball as long as they could every possession, knowing that the clock would continue running until the lead had been brought back down to 15. This was clearly a case of the winning team abusing the rule to hold on to a win. Wouldn't it be better if the losing coach had the option of declining it? Besides this reason, even in games that I am involved, I still want my kids to have their time on the court. Am I alone in this?

Just curious, but did playing with the Travelers give him the exposure that led to that kind of interest? It is pretty surprising, isn't it, that a kid goes from no offers to a list like he compiled, over a summer? The kid's academics are OBVIOUSLY in order and, with the offers he had to choose from, he couldn't have gone wrong. Even if he'd chosen a "non scholarship" offer from an Ivy, those schools have all gotten very competitive with finances and they all have such large endowments that most athletes come out having to pay very little out of their own pocket. When you get a little older, you realize it's probably a better move financially to pay $3,000 to go to Harvard than to get a full ride to some mid major.

Are you talking about Bolden or Snider? I think they've both gotten significantly bigger interest than Dayton, haven't they?

Okay, I've seen James Bolden play a bunch, and I've only seen bits and pieces of Quentin Snider, so I am not nearly informed enough to render an opinion. That being said, and particularly from the video of the two that's available out there, it looks like Snider is a very good point guard with a good handle and a good stroke, but Bolden's handle and quickness look like he is in a different class. Yet I see lots of BGP'ers wishing for a Snider/Bolden match up. Please, someone who is enlightened, break them down and tell me how they've done head to head in AAU.

Are those the rankings AFTER the 2013 AAU national tournament, or before it? It looks like the Ville finished 6th this year, so I'm guessing they'll move a spot when the new power rankings come out. Anybody got a roster for the Ville handy?

Okay, I know the credentials of some but not all of the names on this list. How many of them have won a state championship(s)? How many regional championships has each won?

That's a super long term decision... no athletic scholarship, but probably a lot of financial assistance to get an ivy league education.

Relax man. I appreciate the reference to Kenny Kallina; I checked him out and, even though I wonder about the methodology, I guess he is entitled to his opinion. As far as my reference to AAU rankings, your post about Kentucky Premier came right after the reference to the 4th grade Kentucky Premier, and I assumed, incorrectly evidently, that you were referencing THAT Kentucky Premier team. It appears that Kenny Kallina's rankings are intended to rank the clubs and seems much more heavily weighted to high school performances. As far as the participation in a national tournament, again I thought you were referring to the 4th grade Kentucky Premier team that had been mentioned in the previous post. My bad. Nonetheless, if you are ever interested in the AAU Club Power rankings (which are determined for each classification by and large upon performance in the AAU national tournament) you can find that at the AAU Girls Basketball website.

Where did you find national rankings? I ask because AAU usually updates the club power rankings after the national tournaments, but it doesn't look like they have done that yet. I also looked but didn't see that Kentucky Premier played in the national tournament... how else do teams get a "national ranking" without playing in the AAU national tournament?

I asked the question last week in the girls thread, but I'll repeat it here... what's the best showing a Kentucky team has ever had at AAU nationals division 1? Is last year's 4th place finish by the Gaters the best? For those that don't cross over into that thread, I asked because the 5th grade Kentucky Royals girls got to the national championship game, and was wondering if there had ever been a Kentucky team get that far...

Actually, there have been a lot of Ohio teams that have done well in the national AAU tournament. In addition to those mentioned above, I know the Dayton Lady Hoopsters have a national title or two to their credit, and I think there are a lot of top 8 finishes between those organizations. Given the talent that has come out of Cincinnati the last few years (Munoz, Amber Gray, Mel Thomas, this year the nation's number one recruit, Kelsey Mitchell) that seems to make sense. In Kentucky that hasn't been the case, although I am not aware what AAU organization the Epps girl from Marion County played with... anyone know that, and how they did in the national tournament?

The number of girls playing AAU basketball is undoubtedly less than the number of boys, probably fractionally as in 1/2 as many or 1/3. Not that I have any statistics to back that up, but that is my perception given the number of leagues and teams locally and state wide. With respect to the number of teams in the national Division 1 tournament, however, I think to look at that as winning a tournament of 26 or 28 teams is completely misleading, because those are not merely 26 or 28 teams that showed up; they all had to qualify, by finishing either first or second in their state/district, and I think every team the Royals played was a state champion.... West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas and North Carolina.

Royals beat a very good DC Queens team from Dallas yesterday to advance to the Elite Eight. In a quick look through AAU Division 1 records since 1990, I couldn't find very many Kentucky teams that had advanced very far in the national tournament. What is the best finish by a Kentucky AAU team that anyone can remember?
