  1. What's their record? I know Raekwon (sp?) changes the speed of a game any time he's on the floor... I heard he wasn't handling the ball a whole lot for Turkeyfoot, though.
  2. Interesting thing about this thread and discussion... there is a very good argument that Hatton may be the third best guard in the region... he is going to wind up being the all time leading scorer in the Ninth Region, and he may wind up not being first team all region. That, and having 3 of the top 6 teams in the Commonwealth, says a lot about the current state of high school basketball in northern Kentucky... may be as good as its ever been....
  3. I agree 100%. His biggest flaw, in my opinion, is that he at times looks TOO unselfish... I'd want him to shoot that open 12 footer every time, and he doesn't...
  4. Okay, since it looks like the weather is going to keep us from ever playing another regular season game, I figure to make it interesting I am gonna throw out picks to win the region for each grade division and see if that sparks any debate... My picks are: 8th boys - Conner 7th boys - Highlands 6th boys - St. Pius 8th girls - IHM 7th girls - Highlands 6th girls - Highlands Whaddya think?
  5. What grade are they in, and what level do they play? The girls at Cooper are particularly interesting... does Cooper have different rules regarding playing up than other Boone County schools, like Conner and Ryle, because there are definitely girls at those two schools that COULD be playing up and are not.
  6. I know we're on a site talking about high school sports, but the one obvious, glaring point of differentiation for Latin kids, and the kids that we talk about in virtually every other thread, is this... not one of them is at Latin for athletics. Even the occasional kids who are athletic and achieve some modicum of success are there not to be developed as basketball players, but as students. And while it seems socially awkward to most of the posters at this site, it is truly the right fit for kids who are so intellectually gifted that their talents would be wasted if they had to endure the slower intellectual pace of more "ordinary" schools. Its not for every kid, and it is not even right for every kid that goes there.... but for some it definitely is the right fit. And as to Mustang's joke, I can honestly relate that, following a tennis match in the late 1980's when Bellevue had defeated the Trojans, a Bellevue parent said to my father, who was wearing a Latin T shirt "I wouldn't get too upset this... our boys are gonna wind up workin' for your boys one of these days..." Hard to find fault with Mustang's joke from my perspective....
  7. Pretty sure Draud played varsity as a frosh, but didn't start. Scored some as a sophomore, but it was his junior and senior seasons when he averaged 35+ PPG that he really put up the points. I don't think an asterisk is appropriate, by the way, because scoring has gone down since the 3 point shot was adopted.
  8. Curious about something.... Other than Zoie Barth at highlands, the two eighth graders at Scott and Taylor clos at Campbell county, are there any other 6th or 7th or 8th graders playing up? Same goes for boys.... Anybody aware of any boys in 6th or 7th or 8th playing up?
  9. Glad to hear that, because I think he does a nice job with his team. Thanks for posting.
  10. Little surprised by this. Did Jack Coldiron play for IHM?
  11. Conner defeats Holy Trinity 56 (maybe 58?) to 45 to win the Dayton tourney. Very entertaining game, some outstanding skills on both sides. Holy Trinity was undersized next to Conner, and had a tough night shooting the ball until the last 3 minutes, when they made a little run. Conner led by about 26 with 3 minutes to go, and then Holy Trinity knocked down a bunch of threes to make it a little interesting. Conner is skilled and big - Kunkel's as solid with the ball as anyone in No Ky, and Walters is just too much of a load and has great hands. For Holy Trinity, Steve Pangallo is the real deal, just didn't really get it cranked up til late in the second half. Looking forward to watching these guys battle for the next few years.... In the 8th grade girls championship game, Highlands defeated Conner. Tomorrow Highlands meets Campbell County in the 7th grade championship game at noon..... Highlands has to beat them twice, back to back, to win it.....
  12. I can't recall any CovCath freshman ever having anywhere near this big an impact against Holmes...
  13. What was Von Handorf's previous high point game before this one? Kid's a big game player, obviously...
  14. Who did Turkeyfoot play, and do you know their record? I know they had some transfers in and out, and was wondering how that has worked out.... thanks for the info....
  15. What grade - boys or girls - there were six Highlands v. Summit View games today....
  16. All Highlands MS games, boys and girls, against Woodland cancelled for tonight. I assume if the school is shut down, games are cancelled. Ft. Thomas schools are operating, but I assume Kenton County is not. I was looking forward to the Highlands-Woodland matchups actually... should be good competitive games on the boys side (not sure about the girls) but both schools are solid at the 7th and 8th grade levels....
  17. With that number of free throws shot, I am guessing the fouls had to have been in the fifties, maybe even sixties.... how many players fouled out in this one? Kind of hard to imagine 25-30 fouls per team....
  18. Highlands girls program is in great shape right now, with lots of AAU experienced girls in the pipeline... lots of Division 1 AAU state championship trophies on these girls' shelves... Coach Richey should have a lot to work with for at least the next 6 years.....
  19. Highlands boys 7th improved to 9-0 last night at Grant County with 30 point win. HMS meet up with Woodland on Tuesday and Summitview on Thursday this upcoming week. Should be some good games among the 6 boys and girls games...
  20. and video... or is that asking too much??? A few months ago I solicited opinions on the Bolden/Snider comparison, and I was surprised by the number of responses that ranked Snider ahead of Bolden. I'm a Bulldog homer and all, and haven't seen Snider enough to form an intelligent opinion, but I'm pretty impressed by Bolden. That match up, of two D1 point guards is gonna be a good one... will we see it again when it counts?
  21. So no posting of scores or results yet... since there isn't a site anywhere where results are posted (is there?) here is what I know... Highlands boys 7th defeated St. Pius Highlands boys 7th defeated IHM Highlands boys 7th defeated Conner Conner boys 7th lost to Highlands Conner boys 7th lost to Campbell County on last second 3 point play Conner boys 7th defeated Newport Conner boys 7th defeated St. Agnes Highlands boys 6th lost to St. Pius Highlands boys 6th lost to IHM Highlands boys 6th lost to Conner On the girls side, in a pretty big surprise the Highlands 7th knocked off defending regional champion Conner in overtime in a battle of two very solid teams... This is kind of exhausting.... can't somebody take the lead in providing updates to the NKMS website?
  22. So why wouldn't we allow Covington Latin to decline a running clock, if the coach wanted to get their kids a full 32 minutes of game time?
  23. Great post, and I believe Stinky's prognostication will come to pass, and Bolden will be the most heavily recruited player in N Ky history, as far as offers go. I must, however, point out that DIcky Beal, the other great point guard out of Holmes committed early in his 1980 senior year to arguably the number one program in America (DePaul) and only changed his mind when Kentucky and Joe B. came calling, where he became part of the number 1 recruiting class in the country. I am a huge fan of Bolden's, and I hope he eclipses Dicky in that regard.... I'd love to see his career elevate to the point where Duke and UK/Calipari are recruiting him.....
  24. After reading the posts of those favoring the running clock, I gotta say I was a little surprised at the rationale. I thought the running clocks advocates were people that were concerned with the fragile emotions of the losing team, not wanting to have them feel so "defeated", but it turns out most of the running clock proponents are more concerned with the increased risk of injury when there is a blowout. In response, my point is still that I think an injury from a hyper aggressive dirty team in a close game is more likely than an injury resulting from a player on a losing team in a blowout being frustrated. I always try to refrain from specific examples to prove my point, but this time it begs it.... I would venture to say that Covington Latin has more 35 point losses in its history than most schools in Kentucky, and I have never seen or heard of a Covington Latin player acting out in anger and frustration from getting blown out and causing an injury.
  25. By this logic, why not just end the game then, when it gets to a 35 point lead? If the concern is the risk that the losing team takes cheap shots at the leading team, you should just end it then. If you don't want your kids to keep playing hard - which I think is the appropriate mindset - then just end the game at the 35 point mark. I just don't attribute cheap shots to the size of the lead. Not that I've never seen cheap shots in blowouts, but I've seen more in games when there wasn't a running clock, or mercy rule, put in place. It has more to do with the temperament of the players than the size of the margin, and it is the job of the officials to keep it under control, regardless of the margin.
