And here you are proving my earlier point. Obviously, ratings and rankings are never an exact indication down the line top to bottom of what teams are superior to others. But let me ask you, even if tO$U wasn't as good as Florida, would you say they were still a top 5 or 10 team? That's my point, is that the position in these polls may not be EXACT, but they're a good indication of the neighborhood a team occupies.

The difference is that the Massey, Cantrell, Litkenhouse, etc: A) correlate highly with the different human expert polls and B) have particular systems that shield themselves from blatent bias, and stick to these formulas regardless of result- so much so that at the begining of the season these ratings are often embarassingly wrong with results that no one would attempt to support. With WLEX's track record, it doesn't suprise me that they get their ratings wrong, too. If their sports desk told me that gravity held me to the earth, I'd look down to check.

So, your big complaint is that PRP ended up one spot higher than Dunbar that year? I don't think anyone is saying that those ratings are an exact listing, but I do think they give a good indication of what stratosphere each team occupies.

But they played two of the best teams in the state (H & X) tight that year. I'm pretty sure these ratings also don't figure in the John Hardin loss since it was in the playoffs.

If Manual were in Lexington everything about it would be different. I think what ram2003 meant was a scenario where Manual was somehow playing in the Lexington district, with no other difference. A sky hook appraisal, to borrow a term.

Outside of a few games a year, it seems like enough seating to me. The kids that come like to walk around, anyway, they mostly don't sit in the stands. I think the biggest strain will be hosting playoff games, but if there are plans for temporary seating then it should be ok.

There is no doubt that Louisville is a football town on the high school level. But it was that way before UofL football got big.

Above football in Lexington is H, X and T. What I would say is that Manual, PRP, etc, while second tier in Louisville, would be top shelf in Lexington. I don't think that they'd dominate, but they would be A-list schools.

I believe there was a problem with the bowl structure for Murphreesboro. Manual's goal is to make it to the top. You have the structure of this conversation backwards- other people are using Manual and other Louisville schools as a measuring stick for Dunbar and other Lexington schools. I was making my side of that argument.

I don't care who they played this year, they ditched the contract for the Old Rivalry Bowl against Male in 2005 and by extension Manual this year. There is no 'pot calling the kettle black.' Shawnee was the replacement for the contract dissolvement, not some power from Tennessee- Shawnee might have been drubbed 62-6 in that game, but at least they stepped up to the plate. That 4-6 clause in your opening sentence says it all, why not just own it? For the record, Male lost 49-47 to a VERY, VERY good team that year in John Hardin, which lost to X the next week 21-20. X then lost to Trinity in 14-6 in a game where they lost what was in my opinion the Louisville offensive MVP in 2005. Dunbar, on the other hand, lost to Henry Clay 55-20... who lost 41-20 to Trinity. I saw Male play 5 times that season (Shawnee, PRP, X and Manual), I was at the X-JH game, the T-HC game, and both the T-X games that year. I may not have seen Dunbar (entirely by their fault I might add) but judging by their blowout loss to HC, and from what I know of all the teams involved Dunbar has no right to brag about advancing further than Male that year in the bracket. It's certainly no reason to justify having broken off the game.

How would we know, since Dunbar backed out of playing them?:sssh:

That's what I would call a surface understanding of football in Louisville. Even Trinity posters are saying that X and Male (And Manual and other Louisville schools to a lesser degree) are closer than you're portraying them. RP is far from falsely modest, I promise you.

...and when did westsider and RP become Manual alums? Has it ever occured to you that maybe you're wrong about that one?

:thumb: The Lexington and NKY people see Trinity more (especially when they're playing their best ball) and I think that's part of the perception. It's also a matter of style- to a Manual fan that only watches Manual games, X is the year in year out best of the Big 3, because they're the one that the Rams can't get close to most years. Trinity would be the weakest of the Big 3 to the same person, because Manual has beaten Trinity recently and played them tough on nearly every occasion. But the reality is that in that span Trinity has been the better team and Manual just matches up better against the Rocks than the Tigers.

Yeah, Manual hasn't had a postseason game against the Rocks in sometime...:bunny:
