Lot of bad blood it seems like in here. Let me try to be the voice of reason a bit. First, for all you Rock fans out there, I can tell you that this team is much better than those teams that you have "taken behind the woodshed" in recent years. Because we can't get kids to come to our school from out of district, etc., our talent is a little more cyclical, and this is definately an "up" year. I know some of the Raider faithful, including myself, are pretty pumped up about tonights win. That being said, there is a HUGE difference between beating Henderson Co. and beating Trinity. Trinity has every right to come in cocky, they've won 16 state championships to our zero. I wouldn't expect them to be scared at all, they've been there, done that. But I promise you this, this team won't back down from anyone. I look for it to be a hard fought game(hopefully snowing with blistering winds:p ) between two very deserving teams. We'll see just how far NKY football has come. Go Raiders!

They're are always other players that deserve some consideration for all-state, but consider this. First, are those players mentioned the best among all in the state? Second, there is a reason that so few players are nominated each year. Primarily, it has to do with wanting to get those players serious consideration. It's like if I asked you to send me a list of the best players on Highlands so I could recruit them for college, and you sent me a list 30 players long. I probably wouldn't recruit any of them because of that. So the list is kept short to those the coaches feel are the most deserving. And generally, as a rule of thumb, usually 2 or 3 max players from one team.

I don't think he was saying anything that is untrue. Aside from maybe someone nominating a player for the top 24 as a "filler" because no CCH coach was there. But CCH was NOT overlooked b/c of politics, etc. If YOU want to point the finger somewhere, point it at Rodenberg.

As mentioned earlier, EVERY team gets a top 24 player. Thus, I'm sure someone who had played them stepped up and said it should be Sutton. Since noone else was around to say otherwise....:irked:

That's absolutely terrible. I would think that Popham would be the front runner for all state kicker. CCH does have some other very deserving players for top 24, maybe not all state, but certainly worth mentioning. I do believe that the rule is that you can only nominate 2 players from the same team for the top 24 banquet. Usually teams who have had better years are the teams that get two players. Hopefully this is something that can be straightened out, it certainly isn't the kids fault.

I'm thinking about that as well, maybe a little closer to 5. But if you drive like me you should make it in 4. If you do make the trip, be safe, and don't worry about stopping for food, there will be plenty in Union!

I'm behind this 100%. We really need everyone in the community, and even surrounding communities to come out and show your support. Since both NCC and CovCath will be out of town, I fully expect the support of the ENTIRE NKY community. You know we'd do the same for you. I look forward to seeing quite a few BGP'ers out there as well.

And as far as on topic goes, I want to say congrats to Coach Stellman for a wonderful career. I know he'll miss it once he's done, maybe even come back one day? I personally have always enjoyed his demeanor and tone, whether it be in person or in the paper.

I bet. Since we are on the topic of the "old" district, what has happened to Holmes H.S.? I think I know the answer to this already, but I'm curious. They had some VERY good teams in the mid to late '90s, capable of beating anyone. What has happened?

Just messing with you. I didn't know he was a coach. Isn't Ron Madrick affilliated with Holmes H.S. somehow? What does he have to do with anything?

Those days were the most competitive I've ever seen in ANY district play. Sure, you had an idea of who was going to do well, but any of 5 or 6 teams could beat the other one on any given night.

Is Helmig already a head coach at a top level school that I don't know about?

:thumb: The addition of another school should drop enrollment down to 5A level, at least for a few years. That'd be fun, I miss playing the 'Birds and the Blue Colonels.

I hope Mike isn't interested. I'd imagine Lickert would be VERY interested. And I'm also sure that Coach E probably won't be coaching in the Boone Co. school system any time in my lifetime(or Brian Blavatt's). That being said, I'm sure he's interested(and he'd be a great choice IMO). What about Yeagle? I'd be interested to see how he'd do at the 6A level vs. 1A. How would Helmig balance being the sheriff and head football coach?

I've seen all of the above play this year, and I have a few comments. First, all of the mentioned WR's are top notch. Honestly, I'm not sure that either Brown or Bleser are the best QB's in NKY, but the 3 WR's mentioned definately are. Bleser would certainly be in the mix for a best QB discussion, but I've seen some kids from other schools that, if they were given CovCath's talent, might be better. I guess if I have to pick a "best" comibination from one team it might be Bleser to Bovard. If from any team, maybe Harris to Griffin? I'm really not sure.

Agreed. You'll find some pretty staunch support for Mr. Broadus around Union, and I've never met anyone with a bad thing to say about him.

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Jay is a classy guy, as evidenced by his 2 sons Cliff and Reid, and he does a fantastic job on Friday nights. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else, but especially not for the CC guy. That would make me start to listen to the radio. :lol: No offense CC people, Mr. Rose just isn't my cup of tea(much in the same manner that Mr. Broadus isn't yours).

I've said it for years, if Shaun Alexander couldn't do it, then I'm pretty sure it can't be done. I don't know about zero chance, but it will certainly be tough to beat a team like Trinity or Male relying solely on the running game. Gotta get there first though, Meade Co. up next!

I'm with PB on this one. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice crowd, but I've seen MUCH, MUCH bigger in the past. With the success that these young men are having I'd like to see the community rally around them and come out and support them. That being said, I know plenty of you do already, and to you I say :thumb: . I do believe they made the 3rd round in '99, I double check to be sure.

I was there, close enough to see, and I still honestly couldn't say. It was close though, I'll say that. I was wondering about the quick kicks as well. Possibly, it could be to negate Ryle's punt return, that hurt CC a bit in the 1st matchup. But, IMO, when you have a kid like Griffin, toss it up and give him a chance. Give all the credit to Ryle's D once again, for forcing CC turnovers. They've done it all year, and this may very well be the best defense in school history.

I was disappointed to see that as well. I sure hope the community rallies around this special group of kids and supports them the rest of the way. They certainly deserve it. Only the 2nd time in school history that Ryle has made it to the 3rd round.
