Is Ryle Looking For A New Coach?
Frmwaydwntwn replied to Clyde's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
How long do you need to find the right guy? If he doesn't apply within a reasonable amount of time, it's obvious he's not serious about it. Two weeks is plenty of time to think it over and inform your current school you're applying. -
Is Ryle Looking For A New Coach?

Just making a guess but I anticipate interviews to begin the first week of April. Ryle needs a coach in there before spring break and they go on that April 8. This would give the coach time to meet the kids before they left. -

I watched them in the region and they looked really bad. Just because players are seniors don't mean they'll be a good 5. I didn't see any shooters or someone that could create their own shot that's returning. Bigs were just bodies and on ball defense was very bad. This is a program that needs to build at the lower levels. Gray is right next door and their coaches paths never cross. -

Tell us this, so they all three still coach in NKy? Are they well established or new? -

It's a big difference in running a program and coaching JV. No one cares about JV records. The kids liking someone also does not mean they'll be a good coach. It's easy to be liked as a JV coach because the varsity coach is the disciplinarian. Bowman may very well be a good Varsity coach one day. Next years Ryle team will be bare to say the least. That needs a veteran head coach who can see the big picture. A real bad first year can sink a young, inexperienced coach. That's when the players won't like you anymore. -

I just don't think Bowman is as food a candidate right now. I think it will end like this: 1) Snapp 2) Goetz 3) Grammer 4) Blevins 5) Bowman Ryle hired Mullins with no Varsity coaching experience and I don't think Demler will go down that road again. -

I'm predicting Snapp to Ryle and Blevins to Newport. -

Coach Grammer is at Seneca in Louisville. This was his first year with the program after spending some time coaching in Florida. I would think Goetz would apply too with Campbell leaving and Holy Cross being the third best team in their district. My question though is Ryle a better situation for Goetz, Snapp, or even Grammer as well? Ryle has to compete with Boone, Conner, and Cooper every year for two spots. Now that the 36th will seed, Newport should be the 2 seed almost every year with the decline at Highlands. Holy Cross is in trouble next season as Cov Cath and Holmes should be good but with that said Ryle will not be top 2 in the 33rd next season. -

Is Blevins a teacher? Might be the thing that holds him back. -

The most popular person in the bench is the 2nd in command. Trust me every assistant is loved when players aren't happy with the head coach. Don't know everything about Ryle but its a big school and needs someone with head coaching experience. -

Okay so is there a plan for the replacement? I would think this will be a highly sought after job. -
The position is listed on Boone County's website.

You never know. Ryle's new coach may get them!

When did this happen at Ryle?

Ranking returning players for next year
Frmwaydwntwn replied to Sports Fan1230's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Brandon Trotter of Seneca has to be on this list. -
Mullins being gone is a rumor that happens every year.

Seneca controlled the whole game up until the 4th quarter when their point guard, McCarver, went out with an apparent cramp. Seneca was up 7 at that point I believe. He couldn't go back in until Male tied the game with a little under 3 min to go. Male got a basket with about 2 min to go. Seneca missed free throws to tie and take the lead. Male hit free throws from there. Male is very well coached and had an unsung hero come in and knock down two threes late in the game. Seneca was without a starter, Wachira, but still could have won the game. Both these teams could be a contender for the finals in the 7th if things fall the right way in the draw.

Seneca 66 Waggener 65
Frmwaydwntwn replied to Frmwaydwntwn's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Shot at buzzer by Waggener made it a 1 point loss instead of 4. Seneca was up 10 with 1:45 to go. Referees let Waggener back in it. -
Game got close at end. Redhawks showed their talent at times during this game. Don't seem to show up against lesser competition at times.
-
NKY has sent us at Seneca a good young coach and Eastern has Henley who won a state championship at Holmes. I don't know what's in the water up there but keep it up all coaches in NKY.

Stop depending on the paper for the news. Ballard was up 41-26 at halftime and did not cruise the rest of the way. Seneca was in this game up until the final buzzer. Fought hard and played hard and a couple calls go the other way and it isn't a 15 point game at halftime. Gerald McCarver isn't even listed in the paper and he led both teams in scoring. Classic example of Renner giving his version of the game. Ballard is good, Trinity is good, St. X is good, but Seneca is not far behind. Difference last night was experience and Seneca is getting it. This is a team that went 7-22 last year, lost by 29 to Ballard, 64 to Trinity, and really never competed against good competition. Redhawks and coach Grammer are trying to build something. They have tough losses this season are to Ballard, Trinity, Fairdale, St. X (by 7), Central (in OT), and Hopkinsville. Not many teams have played this level of competition this season.

Manual 58 Seneca 54
Frmwaydwntwn replied to Frmwaydwntwn's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Seneca was actually 4/7. Total fouls Manual 12 Seneca 24, 18 in 2nd half. Note that Seneca was without a starter and #1 bench player that night as well. Combine poor officiating with Senecas mistakes and you can see why they lost. This game played on a Neutral floor with good refs and Sendca wins 9/10.
