  1. As long as Ellis Myles is running the Louisville Magic, the Kentucky Travelers will be the more classy and top notch program. I would send my kid to the coaches with the Travelers before I sent him to Ellis. The only name that draws more ire and controversy in Louisville is Bender.
  2. I don't know why posters say coaches "deserve a chance". Can anyone name me any JV or Assistant Varsity coach from NKY to get a job at a big school like Ryle? Sullivan is the exception because he had previous head coaching experience as well as was an assistant on teams that went to state final fours. Looked back and found this on google: The Cooper job will be Sullivan's second stint as a head coach. He led St. Patrick to a 7-19 record in the 2004-05 season before moving on to an assistant coaching job at Mason County, where he helped the Royals reach the state quarterfinals. In Sullivan's two seasons at Holmes, the Bulldogs went 59-13 and won back-to-back Ninth Region titles. Sullivan said his experiences helped prepare him for life as a head coach. This is not the resume of Blevins or Bowman who are the candidates you claim "deserve" a chance. Another name I am just throwing out as a possibility is Brad Carr. Very underappreciated and a very good coach.
  3. wa wa, give use three guys that you "think" will get it. I agree they will hire someone not currently coaching in NKY but someone that was either a former HC in NKY or someone who has ties to NKY.
  4. Boone and Cooper draw more basketball players. It's all about the feeder schools and how well they're run. Ockerman and Camp Earnst are better run middle school programs. They have a better relationship at the schools they feed as well. Gray and Ryle are neighbors and the coaches don't even speak.
  5. I think Blevins is a good guy. I didn't even know he coaches AAU, but do do a lot of people. Ryle needs an experienced head coach not an inexperienced program builder. If there is someone who applied that is younger, successful as a HC, and passionate, hire them. If not, give it to Blevins. Guru, my point was this thread was being controlled not the board itself I should have clarified it more. Great board great people!
  6. Please tell me his bogus time as a reporter for hoopsreport.com counts as relavent experience! I can list myself as a scout and make a blog, that does not make me more qualified to be a head coach at a 6A school. Blevins and Bowman should get jobs at a school like Lloyd, prove themselves and then get these jobs. Cooper and Boone will continue to be at the top of the 33rd because of their draw in the school district. If Blevins comes in and has 3 losing seasons in a row, his career is finished and so is Demlers.
  7. It's obvious the message board is controlled by Blevins supporters/family members. Jk. I've seen Blevins since Cooper opened and while I think he might be a good guy that kids like, I'm not as in love with his sideline demeanor and don't know how much of his stuff Cooper runs to gauge his xs and os. I do know Cooper went to two region tournaments but never averaged more than 56 points per game during any season Blevins has been at Cooper. I would take any of the candidates with HC experience over Blevins or Bowman.
  8. The notion Blevins and Bowman are front runners for every job posted.
  9. I have to disagree. I don't think Highlands has them as the front runners. One thing is for certain, Demler and Mueller better make the right choice. Both programs are struggling and need wins to come sooner rather than later with this hire.
  10. So just to recap the candidates: Jim Hicks - HC at Grant County Eric Goetz - former HC at Holy Cross Dan Trame - former HC at Walton Verona Brandon Grammer - HC at Seneca Ryan Bowman - JV coach at Conner Blevins - JV coach at Cooper You're the committee, what 3 do you bring in for interview?
  11. Clyde I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. If you're going to give a guy a chance at a school over younger candidates, his resume better include at least district runner ups. I would imagine at a public school, 8 years is too long gor a coach to last without going to a region tournament. Give me any other candidate. I think Goetz is a good coach but has not impressed me enough to give him this job.
  12. Please explain. He had a D1 player and a great team last year. Should have made it last year and possibly this year. Trame was able to when he was there.
  13. I'm sorry he's never made it while at Holy Cross. 8 years in a row.
  14. So Snapp, Blevins, and Goetz are your finalists? Not a bad list. Goetz did resign at HC so it looks like he thinks he's going to get a job at a public school. Blevins is in the district already. Snapp has had moderate success at Newport. Goetz has never made it to regional tournament. Blevins has no head coaching experience, but they did hire Mullins under same resume. Snapp has had success at a program where he didn't have to deal with what he was dealt. Able to bring in players from Cincy. There are pluses and minuses on every candidate. My gut says Hicks or Blevins.
  15. My point was that they understand that football success does not make a basketball team inferior.
  16. Are there any coaches outside the 9th that could possibly get this job? I keep hearing Jim Hicks from Grant County as a possible candidate at some openings and Brandon Grammer is mentioned with Ryle and Highlands. Does anyone see them or any other candidates as serious contenders for these jobs?

  18. Bowman, Hunt, Blevins, Hart, Grammer and one that may surprise you, Shawn Garnett. I think Hunt and Bowman are front runners for this one. Young energetic and come from programs with Football success.
  19. I'm hearing some of the same names with the Highlands opening as the Ryle one. This may be the job that jumps at these candidates quicker so they have first choice.
  20. I think sometimes the coach gets too much credit for getting kids to "play hard". We tend to think the kids wouldn't otherwise. Look at UK this year. The team didn't seem to play hard most of the season, is that on Cal because I think we would agree every team up to now did play hard even his teams at Memphis. Kids who want to compete play hard.
  21. Yes that's when he took over and it's not like Newport needed turned around. They have always had talent in the building. Ryle is not in the same situation.
  22. I think Henley was at Holmes 10 years. Can you tell me the longest tenured active coach in NKY right now? I think off the top of my head it's Jim Hicks, Steiner, or the coach at Scott all at or just above 10 years. That's Pretty much status quo for a coach.
  23. I'm sorry but how is Newport different from any other city school? I liken them to any Cincinnati Public school, Louisville, or some Lexington schools. Their closest resemblence to me is Holmes. Coach Russell got Newport to the Sweet 16. It can be done, at city schools you need a long term coach like Holmes found in Henley and now Booher. Can't be a resume builder. If I was AD at a city school, I would look into the legality of making coaches sign longer than a year contract.
