Obviously I'm biased in my opinion but Seneca outplayed Manual in all aspects of the game. The difference was missed layups and Free Throws. You ask anyone in the gym and they'll tell you Seneca was the better team.

I disagree with your assessment RHN. Seneca is much improved over last season but I wouldn't say they are better than Manual. Manual had a 10 point lead with 2:56 left to play and if they hit free throws the Crimson's win going away. Manual hit 8 of 21 free throws in the 4th quarter and overtime. Also, Manual was not credited with a free throw they made late in regulation that would have made the 3 pointer that Seneca hit at the buzzer a mute point. Now, Manual was the home team so they can't complain about the error. Both teams turned the ball over entirely too much. Manual had 31 and Seneca 29. Seneca was 5-8 from the ft line while Manual was 19 of 34. Seneca did miss some easy shots around the basket but they also hit some lucky 3 pointers (2 banked in from the corner and one from beyond half court to end the first quarter.

 

Seneca has wins over Fern Creek (0-3) and Shawnee (0-5). Their schedule gets very tough quckly. Their next 4 games could very well be losses (St. X, Doss, Trinity and Fairdale). They need to beat better competition before I start to believe they are a contender in the Region. Having seen Manual play Waggener and Seneca I believe they are pretty evenly matched teams. The fight for the 2nd and 3rd seeds in the district will be crucial because you do not want to be the 4 seed and have to play Trinity in the first round.

Seneca was actually 4/7. Total fouls Manual 12 Seneca 24, 18 in 2nd half. Note that Seneca was without a starter and #1 bench player that night as well. Combine poor officiating with Senecas mistakes and you can see why they lost. This game played on a Neutral floor with good refs and Sendca wins 9/10.

We can make all the excuses we want, missing players, poor officiating, etc. Manual was actually missing its starting point guard as well. But the bottom line is Seneca won the first quarter, Manual cut into the lead at the half, Manual won the third quarter and built a double figure lead in the fourth quarter. Seneca was forced to commit fouls to try and get back into the game. A tactic that was quite successful I might add. Manual played a 2-3 zone once they got the lead thus not fouling. Like I said above, Manual shot most of their ft's in the 4th quarter and overtime when Seneca was forced to foul. I agree the officiating was not good but they were poor both ways. The officials didn't cause either team to turn the ball over as many times as they did. It was an ugly game. Just remember this December 5th, both teams should improve greatly over the course of the season. Good luck the rest of the season.
