  1. Your quote was this "I'll still stand 100% behind the point that the "pay cash for your car 100% of the time" argument is great in theory but not at all practical." I disagree. I would say that it is very practical with a very few exceptions like the scenario you mentioned above. To answer your question: I would say take a loan out to buy the car you need with a plan to pay it off ASAP, 3-4 months (should be easy with a high paying job) Then try to learn from this and plan on having enough cash ready in the future to buy a car when you need it. The mindset that "well, I am always going to have a car payment...." is not the mindset of the rich. I feel that a program like DR's would suggest to do whatever you can to put yourself in a better situation (debt-free) as possible. In most cases this does not happen over night and may require that you bend the rules if you will for certain exceptions similar to those you have given. It takes time, and hard work and discipline. JMHO. Great discussion by the way, I love getting on the P&R forum.
  2. It is statements like these that support why I continue to purchase stock in banks and loan companies. This mindset has made many people rich.
  3. Increase your income. Ref ballgames, deliver pizza, etc. whatever it takes. A debt total of $20k or less can be paid off in less than a year if you can get focused and aren't afraid to work at it. And if you pay off all of these debts in a year, interest rates don't play a very big part in any of the equation.
  4. If he plays, it could make a difference but doubtful that it will be enough. It should be a great environment at the game tonight. I can't wait for this one. Go Breds!
  5. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 6.62 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.87 I think this statement pretty much sums up the right/left part of the test: I think that I would have add two words to the beginning of this statement though: "To take....." "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is a fundamentally good idea. How you voted on this probably most likely indicates you stance on economics.
  6. It is a shame that Troy Lee won't be able to garner some of the benefits of his tireless efforts over the past few seasons at Rowan. That being said, congrats to the new coach and good luck this season.
  7. If the improbable upset happens this weekend what are the chances of the goalposts coming down at Ingles Stadium? (since this will be the last game played there.)
  8. I just feel that the market can control this scenario better than big government. I have invested in companies that I shouldn't have, and I lost big time. Instead of asking for the government to baby sit my investments, I learned from my mistakes and worked harder to make a better life for me. Isn't that what living in the country is all about?
  9. so do you feel that the government can operate social programs better than private organiations?
  10. While I doubt that I will vote for Obama in the upcoming election, I appreciate his honesty in this article. Thanks for the link.
  11. So you feel that this type of program is better run by government than by local private organizations?
  12. I agree with your statements. :thumb: I just wonder what it will take for this to happen. I think that big government has so entrenched the general public's mind to it's dependance on the government that it may never happen.
  13. Or government got involved and then churches backed off of their purpose? Just depends on which happened first I guess, the chicken or the egg? I feel this is another case where government has convinced the public that we need them so much. Now that government is so deeply involved in "society's best interests" I wonder if churches and other private organizations will ever pick up the ball again. Imagine if every person in all of the churches across the country tilthed, would we then finally realize that we don't need government for a tenth of the things that we now depend upon?
  14. I think that sharing and giving are great. I just don't feel that government should control the giving. I feel that individuals and organizations such as churches are much better suited to give. Just my opinion though. l66
  15. Some would argue that Big Brother and its regulations and oversight had a lot to do with the economic times that you mentioned above. I guess it just depends on where we get our facts. Sometimes I think that Government's main goal is to make us feel like we need it and can't live without it. All of this under the guise of "what's best for the people....." Here are a couple of quotes from one of our late Presidents that relate to this topic somewhat: "I don't believe in a government that protects us from ourselves. " "The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' "
  16. is number 2 okay for fchs? He took a bad hit late and I tight an ambulance came for him after the game.
  17. So where do you draw the line? I feel that government regulation of markets is detrimental to society.
  18. So I guess you picked both options in the poll? Doesn't your statement contradict itself? How can you say you like the free market, and then say you support government regulations on market based companies?
  19. In. In several ways. A few individual stocks in a taxable account. several mutual funds inside IRA's, Roth IRA's (some that are managed by a broker and some that I manage completely using TDAmeritrade) and pumping as much as I can into my 403b and my wife's 401k. Also trying to get into real estate while the market is down. For those looking to get started, I suggest going to your library and reading a couple of books on investing, or checking out some reliable websites for info. Also, the best place to go is to talk to someone who has "been there and done that" and is successful in the ways that you would like to be successful. l66
  20. I understand that there are a lot of gray areas in regard to this, I just wanted to get a feel where most stood if that had to choose one or the other. I am surprised to see two votes already for socialist.
  21. I don't know if we can get a poll on this or not, but I would be interested to see how the majority of BGPer's view themselves in regard to this. I consider myself a capitalist. l66
  22. Who and when do they play in the pre-season scrimmages? I can't find this information on the KHSAA website. Thanks,
